Sad news the other day - Paul Jackson, owner of the Adelphi in Hull since the mid '80s, has died after a short battle with cancer. Hot on the heels of Tiny Desk, exactly the sort of show I think you'd want them to do if you've seen any previous versions. In the last few days, Pulp have been announced for Beauregard (Normandy) 02/07/26 & Mad Cool (Madrid) on Saturday 11/07. The latter also has Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and David Byrne on the same day as Pulp! Given that it takes two or three trucks to lug Pulp's gear around, I guess another festiv...

2015 Russell Senior Interview
(Preview)
I have just stumbled across this article which I don't think I have seen before. I don't think that the quote "I'd run out of juice and judging by the album sales the rest had too after I left" is justified. They released "This is Hardcore" a year after he left which was still a number 1 album and sold quite...

Forget About Tina, Get In A Bad Mood
(Preview)
I'm still in a funny relationship with the song Grown-Ups (we do like each other but are wary). The mid-section(s) has plenty of lyrical zingers but the line "Forget about Tina, get in a bad mood" got me thinking - have we ever had a classic ****er call-back before? Self-referencing can of course come i...

Swanky Modes Lyrics

Again, a very quick run through: There was a shop called "Swanky Modes" ??? the top of the ??? road I walked past and recognised you You screwed a guy then you killed him after In a film I'd seen about a week before Way way way back in the days of yore Nothing could touch you or leave the slightest ??? You were j...

Black Session '95 Pics

In my mind's eye, I've never visualised the venue of some of Pulp's best recordings as an old Parisienne sports hall. Pretty neat pics though, huh? https://www.instagram.com/p/CGWrBYKHQ3G/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet

Pulp YouTube Clips
(Preview)
Thought it might be an idea to have a thread on newly discovered Pulp video clips online. This seems to be a hitherto undocumented TV appearance, (no sign of it mentioned on the Wiki anyway) performing/miming Misshapes on some show called "Adam", from somewhere in Europe (Germany? Scandinavia?)....

Aperture: Choose Your Own Adventure
(Preview)
I loved the Disco 2000 video and still wish I lived inside it. I am still drawn to anything that resembles its stylings. One of the ways I inhabited it in my imagination over the years was to wonder which of the covers Id select for the aperture cover. I role played this a thousand times. Here I am 30 years la...

New ('95 Vintage) Alternate Disco 2000 Video!

Of all the Different Class 30 chatter, this is probably the most visceral hitherto unseen reminder of the era. Take a bow (in hindsight) , Jarvis. 2025 Setlist Reflections
(Preview)
So what did you all think and would you change anything for 2026? My thoughts are as follows: It was great to hear songs from "More" before and after it was released and there was a bit of rotation between the songs. It would have been nice to hear "Background Noise" and "Hymn of the North" as they have chan...

Desperate Journalist - The Fear
(Preview)
Desperate Journalist just did a special version of The Fear tonight for the encore of their Sheffield show. It was absolutely phenomenal. Possibly even better than the original. Definitely the best Pulp cover I've ever heard. Even better than Bon Bon Club's Love Is Blind. I don't think anyone was r...

Some Unofficial (and very poor) Remixes
(Preview)
About 25 years ago, I made some unofficial remixes of Pulp material. Sadly, these were lost on an old hard-drive. Well, I had a couple of hours spare earlier so thought I'd take a trip down memory lane and have another go. I did use AI to separate some vocals and instrumentals out. You can certainly tell I...

Black Magic - one of my Favourite Jarvis songs - is the song accompanying the new TV and for 'IT: Welcome to Derry'. To mitigate the risk of this being one of those threads with an interesting fact but no further discussion.... what other Jarvis / Pulp songs have featured in commercials?

Pulp References
(Preview)
The other day, I was listening to a new band called Vincent's Last Summer. I thought that the inspiration for that name may have come from the Pulp song "David's Last Summer". Turns out it does and the singer apparently attempts to impersonate Jarvis on stage. Additionally, the band that has been supp...

Party Hard Single Version
(Preview)
Has it ever been established why "Party Hard" is different on the single as opposed to the album? Some Pulp songs sound slightly different on the singles due to the mastering but they are still the same songs. "Party Hard", however, has definitely been altered; it is faster, the vocals are higher in th...

% Pulp - Dave Ball of Soft Cell Dies Aged 66
(Preview)
Genuinely gutted about this - a real synth pioneer, his creativity, personality and appearance were a great foil for Marc Almond's flamboyant, emotive vocals and stage presence. Soft Cell helped pave the way for the likes of Pet Shop Boys and Erasure and parts of Pulp's DNA is definitely apparent...

We Love Life Deluxe Petition

In 2001, Pulp released "We Love Life", their fourth and final album for Island Records (now Universal). And while I'm at it: Parallel Universe 1985 Album
(Preview)
I'm on a roll now . I have just listened to the "Sudan Gerri" demo for the first time in a while and it really does contain some great songs. So let's imagine that Pulp had got a record deal in 1984 and were able to release an album in 1985. Granted, some of these tracks needed extra work before they could be r...

Wardrobe
(Preview)
I noticed a drop in suit quality between the Encore and More tours. We got black, green, and I believe brown velvet on the Encore tour. Then some pretty comfort forward mismatched outfits on the More tour. Which I think is Jarv's worst look. Followed by the denim + plaid + cord Solo 1 era. I think Pulp do...

Parallel Universe 1992 and 1994 Albums

I was listening to "Intro" and the deluxe version of "His 'n' Hers" yesterday and it got me thinking... if they were able to release "Separations" in 1990 and leave Fire straight away, they could have released an album in late 1992. They certainly recorded enough quality material during this period t...

Pulp - Hits Reissue
(Preview)
So there is a photo of a 3d updated cover with the Rough Trade logo doing the rounds on Facebook. Do we have any more info on this ? If this IS true, well that would open up a can of worms, as Universal own the title, so if it was to be released via Rough Trade under licence, this MIGHT be the opening we need for...
