For sure Ian. I have no idea on the copyright issues concerning an official release, which if memory serves was the original intention of the bouquet of steel people? I guess they own the tape and are legitimately able to sell it? Realistically though, other than the hardcore, who would shell out for this if they couldn't profit from it? How much is it actually worth?

DANGIT that just goes to show you how excited I get over pulp.
But like where did you get this recording then?
And about the actual tape, I think that they have to get Jarviss permission to sell it, they said that he was gunna come in to listen to it but never did

I think that it would be a good idea because there have been times in the past where people on this forum have bid against each other (perhaps without knowing) and the price has gone up as a result.
We never did find out what happened to that tape with the Ian Broudie remix of "Lipgloss" on. Unfortunately it only came to light a couple of hours before the end of the auction so we never had time to plan anything.
If this auction happens, I am more than happy to be the bidder and collect payments off people afterwards. Of course, the tape will then be ripped and uploaded in the highest quality possible.
I've been a net recipient from this community for so long & have gained so much from others, it'd be great to have a chance to contribute a little something
Contribution to the costing for this would be the least that I could do. What a fantastic piece of music that was, Sturdy did this get played at your launch party for the book? It sounds familiar, maybe I am getting a bit of "Please Dont Worry" from the melody. Dunno.
Are these two different early live gigs we're discussing - Jason's kind upload from the Limit Apr'82 and the mooted auction recording from the Marples earlier (?) that year?
You wait years for buried Pulp to be dug-up and then out it pours...definitely in to help with the win and thanks Jason.
Edited: Marples instead of Marbles, damn autocorrect!

Yep, sorry for the confusion.
This recording the limit club i was going to let out on it's anniversary but decided, what the hell? Let it go now.
And of course the Marples tape hopefully may go to auction.

Jamie Smith does indeed need to get the tape into an auction. An assortment of us have, at various points, offered to buy it off him, but he never responds. An actual auction may be the only way this happens - if he ever does pull his finger out!
Has anyone else tried to chat with Jamie about this? I know myself, Jason and Sturdy have. I don't believe he's ever responded, even when just a tracklist has been offered. (Not that one would be too hard to work out!)
Let's keep an eye out. I'm sure a group of us could purchase it if it ever did emerge.
And, Jason - I don't come here for ages, and find a holy grail being let out. How very Pulp, tho - you haven't even given it its own thread! A reward for the regular readers, then :)
Initially, Jamie was responsive when i first enquired about the tape but that came to nothing.
I really hope it does surface, as for it's potential value at auction?
Who knows?

The value of the concert is really going to be down to those who bid for it. Its going to be so hard to put a price to such a rare piece of history. At the same time, I dont want to be having a gun held to our head as ransom for this. I hope we are able to get this, and not be outbid or outdone by some greedy person who has no agenda for bidding compared to the genuine fan like us.
Might be an odd suggestion, but if 'ransom', greedy agenda or dodgy practices are real concerns, maybe discussions about teaming up to win this auction on the public forum is not the best place.
We don't want the competition knowing our strategy?
Paul Burgess has notified on Facebook of a new assortment of Pulp demos/mixes on Omega auctions. A bit more meat on this collection. Of most interest would possibly be what seems to be a recording of the 1997 Barbican performance (presumably an improvement on the young Surdy's tentative dictaphone efforts), the original Lipgloss demo and rough mixes of Hardcore material (Party Hard without the vocoder effect!).
Although probably not worth the £120 the bidding currently stands at (happy to chip in, we can share weekend custody of the tapes etc.). Auction ends tomorrow:
Just to update, three of us on the FB page have expressed interest in a joint bid including Mr Burgess. I floated the idea that the largest contributor keeps the tapes and they/someone converts to digital files for the rest of us. Would have to move fast. I guess I'd be willing to pay up to £30.
And would be able to digitize them, if you can't Scott - I did the recent recording of the Dolebusters cassette rereleased via Sheffield Tape Archive, and the London Astoria '94 recording released via Ian's FEELINGCALLEDLIVE site, if you want to hear how they turned out.

By the way, I think the Barbican tape is the 'In C' performance from 1998. Terry Riley wasn't involved with the La Monte Young tribute that I expertly captured on my top quality mini cassette dictaphone...

Well the auctions have been and gone - with good news and bad news.
Auction 1 - promos, mix tapes and potential demo of His N Hers, Acrylic Afternoons and Someone Like The Moon.......sold for £170. I bid on this up to £150, but didnt see the value in going above that.
Auction 2 - the one we all wanted.....has been won, by.......... US! The bad news, it went for £340 (plus sellers premium). I was prepared to pay £300 before it got spotted by other members from Bar Italia - it was never going cheap, the bids were pretty much instant, and shot up to £260 in no time. I got outbid at £300, so I bid £340 (it was £320 at the time) - and won it.
Ill attatch the proof of auction victory in this post, and ill also post the invoice up later so you can all see the breakdown.
For those who are willing to contribute to this - please pm me, or add me on facebook - Ideally what I want is for us all to contribute equally, as it would be unfair for one person to say pay £50, and someone else only willing to pay £10. Ive never done something like this before, so im new to all this kind of approach, and would like people to make their suggestions known as to how to go about sorting this out. They will be digitally converted - also into Wav format and MP3, so we can have lossless audio for the audiogeeks out there, and also MP3 for them who just want to listen.
Please can we have communications as to who wants to contribute, and ill list on here who (unless you want to remain anonymous) you are and send you all something by way of a thank you (some Pulp things that arent out there yet - but will upload them to Ian's site in a few weeks)
Much love.

I've been in contact with Scott throughout this, he deserves a lot of credit for spotting the auction and going through with such a huge bid. I think with the tax added (28%), that takes the total cost to £435. 20 people chipping in 20 quid each and transferring it to Scott should be doable?
Just missed the auction! I remember hearing word of this tape a few years ago and wondering what happened to it. I really hope it's gone to a good home - preferably to someone who is willing to upload a copy online for archival purposes.
Interesting that the auction ended on 15th Feb - 44 years to the day - wonder if planned or another one of those uncanny coincidences the universe chucks in occasionally.
