Not followed the leaks, but I have largely loved what I've heard from the BBC2 and BBC6 and Jools shows.
[edited for spoilers for my opinions on those new songs they played there. I don't know how spoiler strict you've been here - I haven't caught up enough!]
Got To Have Love was worth waiting 25 years for. I don't believe I ever listened to the leaked instrumental- I was also saving the WLL off-cuts for future listens. Never got around to it!
As for my thoughts on the rest of the tracks, you can - bizarrely and hilariously - listen to them at 8am tomorrow on BBC Radio Sheffield, where I will be among five fans getting a 7am listen to the record, and then giving our thoughts!
Definitely one of my more random Pulp adventures. Should be a good laugh, although I've never done anything like this before in a long, long time. Been interviewed on local radio for music what I have done, but it's easier to pull that stuff off. Tune in and hear me flounder!

Went into my nearest JB Hi-Fi this morning to pick it up but to my dismay it had sold out in the 90 minutes between looking it up online and going in. Not just that store too, all the JBs around me burnt through their stock in an hour and a half.
I guess that's in me for not pre-ordering but great to see people here still care about the band!
album out everywhere but I've got to wait one day more to put my hands on it, not fair, Life. Not fair.
no youtube, no social media, the longest day of my life begins.
I paid for fast delivery from Rough Trade but they're saying Monday delivery now, fuggsake... What's JBHifi and how can you be surrounded by so many of them?!

It's Jack Black and his really cool room of sound systems that you stand in the centre of.
Really it's the last real chain in Aus that sells CD's and Vinyl. I should've just gone to one of the local record shops and supported local business. Lesson learned!

"On sale at the bands merch stands at each venue, the Tour Edition vinyl edition of the album, that comes with a bespoke commemorative ticket, is only available at the venue where it was purchased. Only 250 copies will be sold at each show.
A special Sheffield edition of the album is available in select record shops across the city this week."
Someone out there is going to have about 50 copies of this record, and why not.

I'm glad I don't collect vinyl or I'd be pocketless at this point.
Popping to the shops later so will see if I can pick up the CD, just this once I wanted to go old school for this one and buy it off a shelf, just like the old days.
4 listens in now. I should be going to bed but I just cant! I literally ran up Ann Street. Up came the shutter of Rockinghorse and down I went. Not sure if its an age-related thing but I was really aware of being in this moment > being on the train and going to buy a new Pulp album. Could this happen again?? Never been more excited to receive a free tote bag. Like good conference swag that you get - pen / note book.
I had to look that up, and given it looks to be a reference by and about my people I'm surprised I have never heard it... no palaver, but there is normally much palare by Canal Street just down the road :)
didnt know, James Ford was sick during the recording of the album, maybe that's why some of the track sound different ? anyone got the CD already with all the producing credits ?

Three of the copies I bought from the Rough Trade Pulp webstore - the '1st edition', 'Ink Spot', 'Audiophile 2xLP' - are supposed to come with an MP3 download of the album. I've received no links by email, and there are no download cards/codes with the LP's. Just wondered if anyone here knew what the process is.
Pedantic to ask I suppose, since I've obsessively bought 8 physical copies of More, I don't really need a download, but if you've paid for it you should get it, right? There are already another 2 copies - the instore crystal white label, and the tour exclusive - but I must not buy more More.
I rather like how the 1995 cut-out figures in the artwork are almost the same size on the CD as they are on the LP (where they are proportionately smaller on the landscape). It's like that lady in Doctor Who: 73 Yards: you can just about make out their faces, but not quite, on each format. The word 'Pulp' is also roughly the same size.
It all falls apart on the back cover: the proportions are the same on both, so the 9 members of 2025 Pulp are tiny on CD but reasonably-sized on LP.
Someone in the design team must have thought about this.
I've had a lot going on in my life lately and to have the consistent love of Pulp and to go into this album this week, something I've dreamed of for so long it all still feels just a bit weird like it's not really happening.
Whatever's been going on, I hope the universe is sorting it all out for you, lipglossed. New Pulp is a lovely distraction to have.
Thanks, Pip. You know... nothing serious, just a flesh wound. Cuckoos are silly birds etc...
On the plus side, got my degree back and been rather pleasantly surprised at least! I still remember finding this forum once in the university library when I was struggling to write an essay during 2nd year and got bored. (I ended up scrolling back into the 'archives' until 4am and I had to take out a coursework extension!)
Enjoyed AA's comparison of the versions of More on Instagram , reminded me to ask if anyone here knows - what IS Isha Kriya? Does that mean anything? If it's another pun, it's over my head.
So Tina is on the 6Music A-list playlist and has been played on Radio 2 drive-time this week. Is it common for album tracks to get such attention or are Rough Trade testing the waters before releasing it as a single - although I'm not sure what that means exactly anymore. But if not a vinyl release, maybe a video?
A few DC cutouts would look chipper in front of that sign in LA. Perhaps with a crowd of Monroe and Dean impersonators running between them, or something. I dunno. And Jean Harlow, obviously.
Third single from more? I reckon Tina is a shoe-in. I remember it starting the first time I played the album - after Spike finished and I was entering mostly virgin territory, still worried that the whole thing might prove a pastiche (pah!) - and within a few chords I felt the proof Pulp are still the real deal and an ongoing creative force to the pits of my very soul. My very soul!!
Background Noise runs it close, but for me Tina has a touch more sophistication and is less obviously marketable. Both bonuses. Indie credibility: Spike and GRHL are pure pop (and great for that), but Tina is more writerly. Partial Eclipse is great but not marketable enough - the rhythm of the lyrics is too busy at the crucial moment to worm its way into peoples brains after a listen or two.
Id be thrilled if it was My Sex. Pure sass and full of relevance. Capitalise on all those new listeners and earn a few more. Itd be banned from the radio -a wonderful echo of Little Girl with Blue Eyes. But that wouldnt stop that particular demographic hearing it, and to be honest, how many new fans are they going to win in their 40s? Either they know Pulp already but have an Oasis gig to get to, or they havent heard them, and god help them and the rest of us.
50/1 its A Sunset, and therefore the last Pulp release ever. Didnt like that as the name of the last track of More either, and that was before hearing the lyrics. An expensive goodbye though, I suppose, with the royalties thing.
I remember Blur being criticised for releasing a single after the album a couple of years ago.
I don't think that there's any merit in it unless they can give us something else i.e. B-sides. The only song remaining from the album sessions is the unfinished instrumental. That said, there are alternative versions of album tracks in the vaults (the instrumental of "Grown Ups" from 1997 and at least 2 versions of "Got to Have Love" from 1999/2000). I wonder if they could be released as B-sides.
"Tina" or "Background Noise" would get my vote though I don't believe that this will be the last Pulp release ever. Jarvis has already hinted at new material but I think that they will take a break after the current tour and return in 2026/7.
I remember seeing a few discussions on Reddit pretty much saying that it was pointless to release a 1 track single after the album. It had an AI generated lyric video so we can't even call that a bonus.
Candida: "I dont know how many songs we came up with maybe 20 but we recorded 13".
Yeah, I imagine the rest were just the full band tinkering through Proceed To The Route, Locked Down, Cuckoo Song and similar in practice and going 'nah'
The chances are that they at least considered all or most of the "lost" songs from 1999-2001 rather than just going straight in with "Got to Have Love". If I remember rightly, Mark spoke very highly of "Last Song in the World" so there's a possibility that it may be used in future (alongside others - "Emmanuel" for example must have some weight in it if they attempted to record it for "Hits").

Mark also said that Got To Have Love and After You were always the two obvious 'hits' from that period, but they actively avoided putting them on WLL for that reason. So perhaps it was straight to GTHL, now they were in a more 'hitty' mood again?
Possibly, but that said, the January 2000 version was recorded (and presumably archived) alongside 7 unreleased songs if you include "Grandfathers Nursery" so it's entirely possible that some of them got a look-in.
Definitely the best video of the three. What makes it a single in 2025 though? Will note that Got To Have Love has not been issued as a single on any format, and does not have any b-sides, so would not really expect anything different for Tina.
A video plus radio-play makes them singles I guess, both were/are playlisted.
It was funny listening to it on the radio - they faded the word "screwing" out on the radio edit.
Pulp would like to introduce Tina, the latest single taken from their UK No.1 album More, which is released today with a new video.
I love this video - its like digital Fuzzy-Felt, declares Jarvis ****er.Tina was one of the last songs written for More. Its about obsession & fantasy. You should feel like you need a shower after listening to it
Illuminating Tinas lyrics with bespoke designs, live footage from Pulps recent shows and Jarvis ****ers iconic silhouette,

They are generally not even called singles now, they are called 'drops'. It's just drip feeding tracks from the album to encourage people to pre-order them.
That's why you almost never get post-album singles these days, as they'd just be letting you have an MP3 that you've already got.
Weener, youre one step closer to loving it forever! Im jealous because thats a thrilling climb but you can only make it the once.
Enjoyed it live (first night in London) but such a full and studioey recording is obviously going to lose something in performance (or better put, translate into something different). Theyd need to wheel-on a second band for the Holy Trinity part to carry the same clout. If Im carrying something Im usually careful to put it down when he starts singing about Jesus being the resurrection man, especially if its valuable, because the recorded version kinda incapacitates me. Jarvis was very committed in his singing and posturing at the gif though - it was still special.
(Related note: I was interested reading just how many tracks they used when recording Common People - 49 or something - and they still needed to bounce down. Quite a step up. No wonder my hammering C, G and F on a tinny piano never quite hits the spot. Heard an interview with Butch Vig about how he tricked Kurt to keep repeating his parts for SLTSpirit. Studio trickery wasnt terribly punk, so he kept saying thered been a technical problem or glitch - eventually he had ten or more guitar parts to stack)
Itd help if 10-15% of the crowd didnt see it as an opportunity to nip to the bar, but the material was still very, very new back then
Ah I'm never going to love it (damn that slap note) but lyrically I do. It WAS going to be the 'go and get a pint' part tbh but I'm probably not going to drink today/tonight* as I'm on a stricter budget these days.
*but the bar at the station will be calling to me saying 'christina christina why are you not coming to say hello to me today' as well as the rutland arms and fagans
Where do people go now after gigs now the leadmill is no longer.

Just had a "But! Wait ! " moment : The Divine Comedy released a Tina-like song on Fin de Siecle called Commuter Love. It's pretty much the same idea, the author imagining his life with a girl he could never talk to.
Funny.
They should tour together. What a night that would be.
Saw Neil and band earlier this week. Really good show. Couldn't see Jarvis performing with a "similar" dude.
I dont think they are similar, more like two side of a coin. The shy dandy and the outcast. There's room for a double bill or a mini festival. With Chilly Gonzalez as opener
Just don't see Pulp choosing a band they are often compared to with a large crossover in fans, as a support act. Call it ego, variety...Neil may consider himself of high enough stature not to need it either. I assume Suede fit in the middle in this scenario...never gonna happen.

Divine Comedy, suede and pulp on the same bill! If only. Would have saved me going to four separate gigs in recent months. That written, this summer I did see Manic Street Preachers, Charlatans and Ash on the same bill, so maybe another trio of 90s acts is possible, though this year has felt like a re-run of the 1990s. Going to sign off on 1990s tomorrow with EMF/Jesus Jones. Then its back to the seventies with Boomtown Rats, Stranglers, Buzzc0cks, Damned, Bruce Foxton (Jam), Chris Difford (Squeeze) and DAM (Bowie in Berlin) all coming up.
I wonder if Neil Hannon was inspired by Hymn of the North for his song Invisible Thread, a song to their kids
I doubt it, as it's a sequel to Charmed Life and was probably written a few good years back, before we even heard Hymn of the North. I guess as a parent, that moment when the little one leaves the nest is a very emotional one.
As doe the double bill, 2025 proved us nothing is impossible in music ! New Pulp album, Oasis reuniting... etc. It wont happen, but it CAN happen

It was like the mid 1990 re-lived seeing pulp, suede, Supergrass, Ash, Divine Comedy, Rialto, and Bluetones live among others. Didn't bother with Oasis, but sadly no Radiohead tickets. And Super Furry Animals are back next year. Only blur missing from the party, though Graham Coxon did join Ash on stage recently.
I guess as long as one of the band members are alive, anything is possible. Though some bands don't even worry about that!

Longpigs are the big big miss from the current scene and reunions. I'd give anything to be able to see them live (albeit they are only 3/4s alive now sadly since Dee's passing)

You should go see Blur at least once, it"s always a great gig. :)
2025 is such a weird year for music. There's a band i love since the 90's, Ivy. Their McCartney (or Jarvis) was Adam Schlesinger, writer, producer... main man. he died from Covid in 2020. never thought they would reunite.
But they did... they dug old demos written with him, reworked them and guess what, it's one of their best album.
Anything is possible in music, even the impossible.
Already saw Suede and Pulp gigs and wish I have chances to see Blur or The Divine Comedy gigs, of course, more Pulp for sure!! Paul McCarney will have a gig in the city I live in November, but the price is too high, like CAD$770 and up
Next year, I plan go to Asia, do not know if they want to go to Asia.
By the way, does anyone have any ideas about the show in The Golden Hinde, London in December? I didnt see any information on bands website or PulpWiki.
Unless its a major case of Deja vu I seem to remember hearing something about someone selling tickets to watch a sunset long before I heard the song A Sunset. I dont know if it was a con or art or they openly said it would be a sunset or just sold tickets to the greatest show on earth but it definitely seemed familiar before I heard the song.
Maybe it was something I read online or heard on QI, or maybe its actually from a short story.
I tried googling but to no avail. Anyone know the background to the song?

I saw blur a couple of times back in 1990s. Ditto Oasis. Agree, blur were very good at Mile End and Brixton. Oasis great at Earls Court, but not so good at Finsbury Park. I wouldnt mind seeing either again, but I am not going to the likes of Wembley nor Hyde Park to do so. I have only been to one gig at new Wembley Stadium (The Who) and only because I got a bargain ticket in the front of upper tier and it was fortunate I could see for miles as they were pretty far away. And my last experience of Hyde Park (again The Who) at the front of the section outside the golden circle was abysmal, with the sound being blown in the wind and general sh!t housery in the area I was in, almost getting into a couple of fights!
The O2 is as big as I will do apart from big sparsely attended fields like Audley End and MK Bowl. And only because its pretty nearby. Unfortunately, Damned are playing Wembley Arena next year, which is a bit of a drag to get to. But I have to go for the 50th anniversary gig
It's a Nick Banks book-talk on a boat, apparently!
OOH I might go to that - the rough trade one was just the host constantly asking about jarvis, ****ing annoying. I even said to Nick when I got my book signed that I was sorry she only asked about Jarvis and not much about him, he said he didn't mind. I did!
edit - balls, can't go I'm on a nightshift.

Doubt anyone doesn't have it yet, but Rough Trade just emailed out a link to their sale and an extra 25% discount code. Loads of versions of More are on there. With the code, the "Tour editions" are £16.50 each. Ink spot edition £22.50, the 2xLP 45rpm edition £26.25.
All not bad. Quite like the ink spot edition.
But I ended up with 2 copies anyway, so I'll hold off...
A Rattlesnake rework would be a dream as they were going to materialise it in 1987 as a b-side to Don't you want me anymore? but they couldn't, so that's not happening... (despite is totally a banger)
I agree with you on A Sunset. I love it now but was not convinced by the early Jarvis/Hawley versions.
With the two songs you mention, they were examples of the Different Class II pop songs they tried but ditched. Rightly in my opinion - they're not strong enough. Always thankful to get unreleased songs but I think they're fine left as demos.
Plus, I wouldn't want Pulp to have to rely on tarting-up songs that they have already released in some form.
After You/GTHL/Grown-Ups are different as they had never been publicly released before their revamp.
Pulp have 9 creative brains now. Plenty of ability to create from scratch.
My opinion on "A Sunset" is that it has always done very little for me but we can't agree on everything, can we?
I don't agree with reworking older material that has already been released unless it's just one song that could be turned into an absolute classic. I don't think that many of the demos fit this description: "You're Not Blind" is great but too close to "Babies" or "Lipgloss" to warrant a rework. "Modern Marriage" is an interesting one but again, there are other songs that follow the spoken verse / big chorus structure.
Also, there are many songs from 1999-2001 that could be reworked: we've heard the likes of "Cuckoo" and "The Quiet Revolution". Mark spoke very highly of "The Last Song in the World" and "Emmanuel" must have had some weight in it to be attempted for "Hits".
I don't think that they would ever go back as far as the 1980s which is a shame because "Maureen" and the aforementioned "Rattlesnake" could sound amazing on a big budget.
Well Jarvis has used two already released songs for his first solo album and one was ahis lead single ! And he was right, because his versions are way better than the one released by that other singer. Far far better.
For me, demos are not completed songs, so there could be an opening. It's a bit of a waste to let all those songs left as demos. Or they could rework all those songs and release them as some kind of side album i dont know. but quality songs should never be left unfinished. Grown Ups and Got to Have Love, and after You as well... Jarvis seems to think the same.
Pulp have 9 creative brains now. Plenty of ability to create from scratch.
I'm still curious about the writing process for More; it's unclear from the credits what is meant by 'Pulp' nowadays, in terms of writing. The interviews I've read / heard haven't been enlightening.

I guess everyone comes with a pretty fully formed songs and they add their bits or change stuff. Then they put aside all of the songs but the ones Jarvis wrote (being cheeky here, I know Spike Island).
dont really know where to put this: my wife mentionned a new Chilly/Jarvis Xmas song for december 12, but i cant find any info on it. Apparently it was on instagram. Anyone heard anything ?

Yeah i know this one i regularly listen to it, it's a great record. I dont know, the fact that she saw the specific date in intriguing. This one was released in november so the dates dont match. I dont know, she saw this at 3 am
Nice...his voice is Becoming More Like Hannon as he sings up the scale with the harmony backing vocals!
Jarvis must be unrivalled in how he gets so much lyrical material from one specific bit of word play - in this case around "X-mas". Made me think of the Pulp-designed Christmas card from 30 years ago (" do you remember walking past me in the snow...?").
All that's left for a Pulp Christmas is for them to finally record the song "Snow"... I wouldn't rule anything out these days!
