In 2001, Pulp released "We Love Life", their fourth and final album for Island Records (now Universal). In 2006, their previous three albums for this label were reissued with bonus discs containing B-sides and unreleased material. Unfortunately, "We Love Life" has never been reissued and as a result, many songs from this period remain unreleased.
When 2,500 signatures have been received, this petition will be sent to Universal and Rough Trade Records to prove that there is demand for a deluxe edition of "We Love Life" and to ask them to consider releasing it.
Oops! Rest assured, they are not my words . I am unable to reproduce this error either on mobile and desktop, it shows an error telling me I have already signed which is correct and if I use a different email address, it allows me to sign as normal. Would you be ok to try again and let me know what happens?
77 people have signed yet it says 55 on the desktop version and 28 on the mobile version. Odd, I will have a look at the documentation and play around with the settings.
55 is technically correct as this is the volume out of the 77 that have confirmed their email addresses.
Looks like "Invalid Nonce" is an error associated with Wordpress. I did change a cache setting yesterday to see if it would resolve the error with the counter so that may be the cause of the problem.
Update: I think I have resolved the counter error. I had a cache plugin installed which I have just disabled and the counter now goes up every time someone confirms their email address.
132 confirmed signatures out of 217. That's a pretty good start. I do have the facility to re-send confirmation emails to those who haven't confirmed but will wait for now.
If anyone is a member of any forums or social media groups where this may be of interest, please share. There is a link to the petition on every single page on my website and I will look at putting something on here too.
Is it worth promoting it on the Pulp reddit (www.reddit.com/r/PulpBand/) too? I don't really know how reddit works, but it seems to have 7.8k members. There's also a general Britpop one (www.reddit.com/r/BritPop/) with 18k members
Thank you for sharing on Reddit. I only ever use it anonymously and have never posted. I think I can email all members of this forum (about 1000), that might also send some further traffic here from those who haven't visited in a while.
Yes, "Medieval Owl", "White Owl" and "M'Lady" are the same song. Some of the others may have been working titles for songs that were eventually released and a more unlikely possibility is that there may be two songs with the same title as per "My First Wife" in 1987.
207 confirmed signatures out of 311. I have posted in a couple more Facebook groups but every time I try to post on Reddit, it gets automatically deleted by their filters which is odd. It would be great if someone else could help out with that.
There really aren't as many forums online as there were 20 years ago! I have looked and registered for a few. Let's see how it goes.
What about Instagram and TikTok? 10 seconds of footage of Jarvis wigging-out live to Sunrise 2023-25 style in silhouette with a glowing amber back-light. "Dig this? There's a lot more to Pulp than More. Sign here" etc.
You are testing my capabilities here . I have shared it as a post and story in Instagram but wouldn't know where to start with TikTok. Leave it with me and I will have a go.
Thanks everyone, we are just short of the 10% mark. I sent an email to everyone who hadn't confirmed their signature and a few have as a result.
In case anyone is interested: My Instagram reel currently has 606 views and 54 likes My TikTok video currently has 1004 views and 51 likes My Threads post has 14 likes, not sure if I can see how many views
There was a slightly negative comment on Threads: someone claiming that a lot of unreleased songs from this period ended up being recorded for "More" (one did) and that the others were abandoned because they were no good (how do they know?).
Someone also commented that petitions like this are unlikely to make any difference. Well they have certainly worked for other bands/artists so it's worth a go. Even if Jarvis doesn't want to be involved but gives it his blessing due to proven demand and allows Mark to oversee the project, we would be laughing.
On instagram I made a comment about hoping a We Love Life special edition would follow the Different Class reissue under Marks post and he liked it. It may mean nothing but if the band are in conversations with Universal about other reissues maybe its potentially on the agenda.
It seems to have stalled at 380 signatures (~15%).
Yes, a day of action would be a great idea. Tomorrow is the 24th anniversary of "We Love Life" but probably too late as it would take a bit more planning.
The petition has a presence on Instagram, X, Bluesky, TikTok and I have shared in Facebook groups. Does anyone have any other ideas how we can boost awareness?
Celebrity endorsement. Olivia Rodrigo was singing along to Common People at Glastonbury.
Get her handlers to play 30 second preview clips of The Night That Minnie Timperley Died and Bob Lind, she'll soon be on Insta reels to wax lyrical about We Love Life.
In terms of celebrity endorsement, Nick did share one of my posts on Bluesky so he certainly implied that he would be up for it. As per a previous post, an ex-member (Steven Havenhand) has signed the petition. I did find a few ex-members on Facebook and sent them messages but I think they fell victim to a spam filter.
Handing out flyers with QR codes on at concerts would be a good idea (I have got a friend who is a printer and would provide them at cost price) but there's nothing planned just yet. They were playing to audiences of over 10,000 people this summer so even a couple of hundred signatures from those would give the campaign a decent boost.
I may contact Universal just to ask if they would consider releasing some of the unheard material. I severely doubt it but the album's 25th anniversary is next year so you never know...
What about just asking Mark to covertly leak the CDs, and have them put up on Ian's site? If there's no strong commercial interest in them.
They are no different really from say the Sudan Gerri demos. Just have them exist as the full Wessex and Depot demos, rather than have them packaged as WLL discs 2 and 3. 9 of the 42 tracks from those sessions are already in the world anyway.
Maybe we could arrange a spy film style handover at the Crookes Social event? Mark could slip the CDs into my book during the signing (I'll use 'Selborne Road' as the code word, if you are reading this Mark). If there was ever any come back from Universal, he could say one of his kids' mates must have pinched them during a house party or something.
