About 25 years ago, I made some unofficial remixes of Pulp material. Sadly, these were lost on an old hard-drive.

Well, I had a couple of hours spare earlier so thought I'd take a trip down memory lane and have another go. I did use AI to separate some vocals and instrumentals out. You can certainly tell I'm not a professional remixer!

These are remixes of commercially available material so for that reason, I have saved them as low quality mp3 files and and am only sharing them here so that people can roast my [lack of] remixing skills:

Being Followed Home (Radio edit)

Help the Aged (Extended)

It's a Dirty World (Radio edit)

Live Bed Show vs They Suffocate at Night

Party Hard (Stretch and Vern Vocal Remix)

I understand if nobody ever speaks to me again!

They're interesting, and better than what I could ever do! I went in wondering how HTA could be extended, and it was seamless to my ears, same for Dirty World. Not listened to Being Followed Home for a long long time, and it brought on a lot of nostalgia: it always brings to mind Morecambe around The Carleton nightclub area, but that's just based on my Lancaster Uni years when I first started digging into the older Pulp stuff.

That Live Bed Show vs Suffocate was hilarious, fascinating, annoying and scary in equal measure. Like AI, except not as depressing. Actually, the lyrics for both songs are quite desperate and depressing...

You sure like the "Funny how it all falls away" bit in Help The Aged...is that a nod to its crowd-engagement on the recent tour?

Good work on Dirty World. I will never get M.Webber's loathing of it. With your edit, we're talking about a hit in the summer of '97 that stays in the top twenty for a whole month!

Bit of background:

I originally made "Being Followed Home" and "Help the Aged" years ago and possibly shared them on an earlier incarnation of this forum but they were since lost. These versions were completed from memory the other day so the repeated "Funny how it all falls away" line originated over 20 years ago.

I did something with "Party Hard" years ago but can't remember what. Now that AI can do a reasonable job of separating out a vocal, I decided that it was a good idea to put vocals over some of the never-ending instrumental parts of the Stretch and Vern remix.

"It's a Dirty World" is a brand new effort based on discussions on this forum.

Back in the day, someone pointed out that there are vague similarities between "Live Bed Show" and "They Suffocate at Night". This was my attempt to see how it would sound using the instrumental from one and the vocals from the other. I think that the verses work ok but the chorus really does sound out of place.

Anyway, these weren't as badly received as I thought so maybe next time I have a spare hour, I can attempt something else. I did think about an extended version of "Weeds" the other day...

Done it...

Weeds (Extended)

I must admit, removing the vocal really seems to bring out the strings really well.

These are great! The Suffocate at Night/Live Bed Show mash-up reminded me of the LOVE project from The Beatles.

Weeds does sound incredible as an instrumental. Don't forget the ending was released without the segue into Weeds II on the promo CD.

Yes, I remember that. It was certainly possible that "Weeds" was considered a single at some point.

Here's another one: Party Hard (Extended)

The instrumental section really highlights some of Mr. Webber's impressive guitar work.

Two more:

My Sex (no chanting): apologies to those who like it but I think that it sounds better this way

Death Comes to Town and Goes to the Disco: essentially "Death Goes to the Disco" with additional vocals from "Death Comes to Town"

I think I have got too much time on my hands! biggrin

Sorry to hijack yr thread Ian, but does anyone remember instrumental versions of Pulp songs by MrSalmon92? They have disappeared from Youtube and I was hoping to use them for something.

Ta, im not keen on the x y chanting either. Without them, the last 90 secs are a bit empty, the track could be reduced to sub four mins.

It's ok. I don't remember those but you can use a website such as this to upload a track, it then segregates the instrumental and vocal and allows you to download them separately.

If you are referring to the instrumentals that Jayenkai made himself, these are still on YouTube and can be accessed via this thread

I have just been messing around with one of those AI remix apps:

Live On

Silence (I really am doing my best to get blocked!)

Ian, any chance you could have a go at a live extended mix of Live Bed Show incorporating elements of both 1996 and 2002 live versions ? Munich in '96 and Eden Project '02 are examples of how the song's natural ending per the released studio version is modified and expanded in different ways.

PI can't decide which one I like better, '96 has an additional vocal melody section but 2002 has a gorgeous last minute and a half or so with Hawley adding a stunning minor chord lead part. 1There may be better audio sources for these than the Munich and Eden Projecpt shows mentioned.

Sorry, I have been busy for the past few days so not had chance to look at this.

So for the extended bit, would you like the instrumental from the 2002 version but with the vocals from the 1996 version added in? I will have a listen and try to find the best quality versions.

No worries! Maybe try that and see if it works but I think the melodies might be different. If so, maybe just have one instrumental run into the other and it be a mega-mix. I'll let you teust your ears.

Well, I made a couple of attempts but they were quite disastrous. The extra vocals from the 1996 version really don't sit on top of the instrumental from 2002.

The instrumentals and vocals from both are here if anyone is interested. The extra bit from 1996 really is improvised!
