Great find MerkinMuffley. I really love the sound of those three tracks, though it is hard to judge the full album by them as they are probably the three least 'rocky' songs that will feature on it.
I was REALLY looking forward to Never said I was deep, but I made a big mistake in listening to the shepherds bush empire bootleg for the past few months. It is nowhere near as good as I hoped- it's been slowed down and I can't get into it. The rest of the tracks are going to take a few listens, Pilchard is quite good though. (Just gotta wait for Girls like to too to surface now!)

Hmm...just had a listen to DiscoSong and NeverSaidIWas... Not too sure on Jarvis' vocals on the latter. They seem very...hushed or too removed from the music. And it looks like the Stooges sax player stayed on for a couple of more tracks (that is a sax I can hear on both isn't it? Maybe a trumpet). DiscoSong sounds to me what Seductive Barry should have been. Bound to take it's place as the Pulp/Jarvis song to...have fun to. Haven't time to listen to 'Slush', on the way to a job interview.
I'm so used to the live versions at this stage these are gonna need a lot more listens. What is in no doubt is that they are two of the best songs Jarvis has written in years.
Edit after reading Zaqx's post: Yep, NeverSaid has certainly lost some urgency with the slower tempo. Live, it was a monster. Our own fault though for relying so much on the live recording as you said.

I'm just listening to Never Said I Was Deep via Hype Machine. First impression is that it's fantastic. Be interested to see how it sets in after a few spins round...

In other words: add the non-lame half of Jarvis to the non-rocking half of Further Complications, add Girls Like It Too and you have one hell of an album!
Hold Still is very good indeed but the mixture of a choir, kettledrum and piano in Slush is beyond amazing. Wow!

Wow. I got it a few days ago through my waning rock-crit connections and so far I think it's highly inferior to the first solo album. I like "Slush," "Caucasian Blues" and a few others though. But I think the production's wrong, and the band is really pedestrian compared to Doyle, Senior, Banks and Webber. I'm really starting to miss them.
However, as I remember it, I was underwhelmed by Jarvis at first. I reserve the right to change my mind after more listens.
Oh...the whole album has leaked? I thought it was just the 3 songs... I kinda wanted to wait til I bought the album before listening to everything like last time. Even though 'Jarvis' leaked a good 6 weeks or so before its release I only listened to a few of the songs. Having said that we already know most of the album live so it's not cheating that much.
Just listening to I Never Said I Was Deep...fantastic! I'm getting goosebumps :). Well done Jarvis.
I'm a bit annoyed the album has leaked, but I guess it's inevitable almost in this day and age. I will still be buying it, however and hopefully many others do, though I'm sure we all will on here :).
(I just read the above comment having typing that by the way!!)
I'm wondering if GLIT may come as part of "a double A-side" although I hope not as the non-album version is inevitably considered a B-side anyway. As Angela has been given out free via various methods I hold out hope that it will be released as a single and nothing more, if that is possible. Unless of course having recorded it etc it just wasn't as good as it sounded live?
Anyway, whilst some of you are on the topic of reviews, £5 says that Jarvis gets 5/5 in the Guardian, coincidentally on the same day he is guest editor ;).
Ok everyone, I've just finished my first full listen of the album. First impressions are that this is an improvement in the first album. In fact I think it's bloody good!
As one review said this album is very much Jarvis 'trying on different hats' and if you ask me they all fit quite well.
I wouldn't like to name a favourite song as there's too many to choose from.
Worst Song? For me it has to be Hold Still, it seemed a bit boring compared to the rest although this is only after 1 listen.
I hope that most of us do pay for it when it is properly released.
I'll get it on vinyl. I've got every solo release from Jarvis, including Relaxed Muscle, on vinyl.
It's a great album. I really love Further Complications, I Never Said I Was Deep, Pilchard and Leftovers. The rest of the album hasn't struck me yet and I guess the last song will take the longest time.

The record is quite good after a few listens, but i still cant understand what's good about Pilchard, and the praise it's geting here.
It would make a good intro for live shows, but as a track on a record, really, what's the point. A filler on track 3 ! unbelievable. Jarvis makes weird choices sometimes, but i guess we're used to it.
I'm not convinced.. "fucking song" should have kept more of that little noise.. at the end(the last 10 sec.).. it should have been like the live version from music hall in of Williamsburg.. that version is.. amazing. the album version.. ok maybe. It was really the noise who many of the songs just sounds like an extended version of "fat children" I really, really want to like it.. cuz it's Jarvis.. he shouldn't be able to do bad songs.. so i think I'm going to listen to it some more..and maybe i can appreciate it more. Any way Slush is still my favorite so far (and Never said).

I really like the music and pace of Pilchard.

Despite my sentimental attachment to This Is Hardcore, I think this is his best work since His N Hers! In the context of the album, even Angela makes sense*, & I've found myself whistling it at work.
Andy, RE Pilchard - It's like a rhythmic, bluesy Interstellar Overdrive. Try walking to it in the sunshine, it's fantastic! A highlight for me, actually. Despite my usual obsession with lyrics!
This could be an album to really last, I'm very impressed.
Leftovers is particularly amazing.
My only gripe is I don't like Slush much, it's very aptly titled! This is the track I would have ditched in favour of GLIT.
But all in all, a brilliant album. Must've listened to it 4 or 5 times already. Can't wait 'til it's out propper so I can have it on the black stuff!
*Actually think I should apologise for my harsh treatment of it...
Dont get me wrong people, i like Pilchard. I just dont think it works in the album. At least not at track 3, and knowing there's other (better) tracks waiting in the drawer...

Jarvis: You're In My Eyes (DiscoSong)..."is about a beam from a mirror ball hitting a floater in a man's eye, which brings back his dead girlfriend. She appears next to him on the dancefloor, as it turns out that eye floaters are memories. So he's dancing with her, but he realises if he stops dancing she'll disappear - he'll have to dance for the rest of his life!"
