The always reliable Victoria Newton at The Sun claims to have a scoop on the Brit Award nominations. She reports that Lilly Allen leads the pack with 4 nominations, but is thrilled that Jarvis is nominated for Best Male, despite, as she says "not having done much lately".
It's expected that the media will make a big deal about Jarvis finally being allowed back to the Brits after a 10 year ban for the Jackson thing. Prepare yourself.
The official nominations come out in a little under an hour I think.
British Male Solo Artist James Morrison Jarvis Cocker Lemar Paolo Nutini Thom Yorke
Let's consider the competition, shall we.
James Morrison: I don't know much about this guy, but I did see one of his videos when I was over in Italy. He looked like a toolbox to me, and the music was terrible. My first thought was that The Doors should sue him for his name. But he did have that certain knobbiness that the Brit awards love to celebrate (e.g. James Blunt). Is this guy actually popular in the UK?
Lemar? British people should not do R&B as a rule. I'd rather listen to Jamie Foxx.
Paolo Nutini. Never heard of him before. Checked out his video on You Tube. Is this that emo stuff all the kids are listening to these days? Wow. Sucks.
Thom Yorke - The only real competition, isn't it? But Yorke's solo record has always been promoted as a one-off side project, so that might bolster Jarv's chances of winning... if Jarvis and Thom don't cancel each other out.
Well, James Blunt sold a lot of records in America after he won the Brit Awards last year, so I can see the industry trying to do the same thing with James Morrison or Paolo Nutini (whoever he is). But I have a feeling they will go for credibility this year. Jarvis might actually win.
