Apologies if this has been mentioned before, but just seen this in the Radio Times:

FRIDAY 22 DECEMBER
Friday Night with Jonathan Ross
10.35-11.35pm on BBC1

A mix of music and celebrity chat with Jonathan Ross. He is joined by Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond, comedian and actor Lee Evans and actress Liz Smith. There's music from G4 and ex-Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker.

And if you miss it, it's repeated in the early hours of Christmas Day.

Why does Jarvis keep going on this? It's the worst programme in the world (except maybe that awful Frank Skinner chatshow).

Wouldn't say it was even the worst chat show (try Parkinson and his geriatric guests), and there have been a couple of good Jarvis moments down the years on it.  In particular, when just accompanied by Candida they performed Birds in Your Garden.

My problem with the show is it is the Jonathan Ross show and the guests don't get to say anything (not always a bad thing in some cases).

In all likelihood, Jarvis won't be speaking, as was the case when he accompanied Nancy Sinatra doing Don’t Let Him Waste Your Time.   I guess he will be performing Don’t Let Him Waste Your Time this time as well.

Exactly! What is the point in letting someone host a chatshow when they clearly have no interest at all in other people? Ross and Skinner just both seem to have this really annoying formula where they'll ask about 2 stock questions ("love the new book/album/film, have you lost weight? Must say you're looking good") and then spend the next 10 minutes using the guest as nothing more than jumping off point for their shite committee-scripted jokes. Dear Anne, why oh why oh why?

Did you ever see the one with David Bowie? Bowie's put downs to Ross were soooo funny!

Now the one with Morrissey on the other hand.... That was painful!

Maybe that's why Jarvis only does music on it.  Some of the music performances are quite good and contemporary, only shame is they pop the end credits over them.    There was a really good interview with Jarvis on the Culture Show recently.  If you want to listen to anything interesting about guests avoid chat shows and go for the arts programmes.  Chat shows these days just seem to all follow the Jay Leno/Letterman prototype.  The only one that doesn't is Parkinson, but the average age of the guest is about 65.

Ross's show isn't the worst, because at least he will have some good music on it. And every now and again a guest who can hold their own, but agree it shouldn't be a challenge, and the guest is who I want to listen to.

Let us hope the single does just as well! Out January 8th, I believe.

I'll be getting it, obviously.

I thought Jarvis was really good on it, the bit at the start, when Jonathan was introducing everyone made me laugh.

Jarvis' singing style is great, he seems to change the way he sings on each performance of the song, which makes it interesting. But then, with dance moves like his, he could be singing anything and still look interesting...
