This has probably been mentioned elsewhere but it deserves it's own thread. Today's Observer Music Monthly is guest-editted by Jarvis. His album gets 5 stars in it as well.
I'm quite sure the guy reviewing is a long-time friend of the band, I can't remember the exact details, but I'm sure I remember something about Savage & Best doing something for Pulp in the marketing area. Perhaps I'm mistaken.
There's an audio interview too, where Cocker says he's deliberately kept out of the review section, it not being his place to comment on others' music... which he has done more than once before now - his rant at how awful Slipknot are was highly amusing. Anthony Genn's band is listed as a top five single / track or something though...
You have to think that Jarv's guest editing his own 5-star review is a bit of joke, but then, Jon Savage is a highly respected rock journalist, and surely he wouldn't endanger his own credibility like that.
I liked Russell's article on Sheffield nightlife, especially him getting recognised in the club. He has a great way with words. Would love to know more about what he's up to these days...
I was there that night when Russell got recognised by his daughter's friend at Offbeat!
Jon Savage isn't anything to do with Savage & Best by the way - the Savage in question there was Phil Savidge (sic). No relation as far as I know. As Fuss Free points out, Jon S is a well known writer in his own right.
