The song "Baby's coming back to me" from the new album is available on a free CD with the last issue of LES INROCKUPTIBLES. A really great (and quiet) song (far better than "running the world")...
Could you upload it on radioblogclub.com so that we can hear it?!? That would be great!

If anyone get's hold of the magazine, please throw the song in the bar italia account. And don't feed me some moral bullshit about legal trading. Why should the readers of Les Inrocktuptibles get to hear a preview of the album before we do?
It seems that santa has just made your dream come true

It's interesting. I'm actually more excited about the album in a way, because I thought I knew what it was going to sound like, but this reminded me that Jarvis is always unpredictable.
i have never heard sinitra takes, so i cant really compare.
about this album you'll either love it or hate it, no grey area. it's hard to get into, that's all i can say without spoiling you. the other thing i can say is : dont except to hear a Pulp record.
yeah, it's one thing to get all laid back in your old age, but still have fabulous lyrics, etc. it's quite another to just start making lazy records. the reissues showed us how effortless things once were for Pulp, now it's hard to say where things are coming from. does fatherhood ruin songs? does aging effect musical ambition? i was hoping that Jarvis was going to prove them all wrong...
mind you, i've heard exactly two songs. but instrumentals and "excerpts" as filler are never a good sign...
well, the two instrumental excerpts are quite useless yeah, unless its the promo version and we'll get something else when we buy the record. personally i dont see the point of those two. i dont see them as filler, though. Tonite and Quantum Theory fufill that filler position.... i expect | hope there will be bsides
then, the first three times you hear the record, you exactly get that thought :"well jarv's been softened by his baby, his wife, this isnt as good as expected".
but by the 4th or 5th listen, it really clicks. it's a record made by a grown up, mind you, that's why i think some people might not like it.
The two instrumentals are only 30 seconds long. They sound very similar to Roadkill.
I don't agree that the two songs he wrote for Nancy Sinatra are the strongest - though Don't Let Him Waste Your Time is very good. To me the middle part of the album with 'Fat Children', 'From A to I' and 'Disney Time' is the strongest part - three excellent songs.
I'll write a short review when I've listened a bit more.
i dont rate Disney time very high tbh. the other two are strong yeah, overall is a very equal record, no standout tracks, just strong ones and less strong ones.
with two instrumentals, two 'fillers', and two Sinatra songs, i understand your craving for some b-sides. i honestly thought that there was a surplus of material considering the three Harry Potter songs and the "is it/isn't it" Cunts that got tossed out this year. i suppose not. although i was disappointed with nearly every Pulp record upon first listen, so why panic?
can you say anything about the style of the stronger songs?
Am I the only one who thinks that "baby's coming back to me" rings a bell?
It reminds me A lot of "she's dead"...

Jarv's rendition of the song lends a new dimension that Sinatra's didn't have.
Nancy's version was a straight-forward read of the lyric, and a very uplifting, positive summery song. Jarvis has turned the song into a autumnal, sad, maybe even ironic song. So, to me, the two versions are like ying and yang. To fully appreciate one, you need to know the other.
Steve, is it ok with bar italia's policy if i ask for nancy sinatra's takes to be upped on the account? i guess not, but i still ask, you never know... at least 29 secs of each, so we dont break the law.
