So, this is the new forum, then. Welcome. Hope you find it to your liking.
OK then. I've tried to keep all the unnecessary bells and whistles to a minimum. It still has some annoying features I haven't worked out how to fix yet, like limiting the number of replies on one page, and some slightly irritating presentation options (and anyone filling their posts with these godawful smileys will be taken outside and shot), but this new place should at least make it a bit easier to find past posts, as well as not pushing them off the edge of the world when new ones come in. Unlike the old board, the default setting here is for a thread to jump to the top of the list whenever anyone posts in it. Don't worry about resurrecting old threads from months ago, it's positively encouraged.
All the old posts from the old board have been transplanted over here; since nobody had an account, all the old posts are just under the name "Anonymous", so your post count will have to start at 0 - though I've tried to indicate who posted what. Also, all of the dates and times of the old posts are messed up; where they contain context-sensitive date information, I've tried to provide it. Some of the threads which duplicated subject matter etc have been merged.
Anonymous posting is allowed, but if too many idiots/spambots take advantage of this policy it will be reconsidered... Anyway, do register for an account, it'll probably be ALL kinds of fun. (NB: May not be all kinds of fun.)
After much deliberation, I decided against making separate forums for different areas of discussion; I always liked the random jumble of topics on the old forum, and trying to separate everything out into neatly-organised little topic ghettos always seems like a recipe for disaster, because some discussions always attract all the traffic anyway whilst others end up sat there doing nothing except informing passers-by that "There are no new discussions on this topic since October 2003". Upshot is, there are no separate sub-fora for discussion of "Albums", "Songs", "The Band", "Off-Topic Bollocks" etc etc; you're likely to find all those things discussed here.
Any questions, give me a shout. Anyone who wants to be a moderator, e-mail me at webmaster@pulp.gb.com.
They're the tool of the devil. Even if you don't mind the ones sat at the bottom of the box, I just *dare* you to click "More Emoticons" and not die a little inside.
Because you went over 10 posts. It should change to something else when you reach 25, 50, 75, 100, 200, 500 etc etc. Sorry if they're a bit crap, I had to think them up in about eight seconds. If you go into the "my profile" bit where you changed your user picture, you can change your label thing to something of your own choosing too.
Love the forum anyhow...how far off do you reckon the site is, Steve?
Er, I don't know. I was hoping to have it all done by Sep 1st, but lots is still wrong with it, and now I'm super busy again. Soon as possible, though.
In fact, I just checked, and you go up a level at 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 250, 500, 1000, 2000 and finally 3000 posts. So, er, there's something to aim for, right? It's the hot craze that's QUITE LITERALLY sweeping the nation! Tell your friends!
I'm obviously being really thick, cos I can't work out how to become a member. Keeps telling me that the verification code is incorrect. What is it? Am I allowed it?
Nope, it definitely works fine on Firefox - I wouldn't have allowed it otherwise (early adopter here, yo). I just signed out and registered as a new member to test it out, and it worked without any problems, so I don't know what's going wrong for you guys.
The verification code is just the numbers and letters that (should) appear in the box above where it's asking you to re-type it - it's just a device to get rid of spambots, like being asked to type in the code after posting on the old forum. Is it not appearing on your screen?
Congratulations, in all honesty (not that i really should have a say) i wasn't all that up for the move of forum, but i love it, so everyone can sleep happily i'm sure.
