There are rumblings across t'internet that James Ford is helming a new compilation album for the War Child charity, 30 years on from the original record. Of course Pulp didn't take part in that due to scheduling (I think?) but then donated their Mercury Prize winnings to the organisation.
It's usually new/unreleased material that features on these comps. Have Pulp finished something from the More sessions or done something else new for it... ? I guess we'll find out soon. It is quite a nice feeling that Pulp are very much "active" ie not just doing an album, touring and buggering-off. Feels like they're properly engaged pop-royalty for the first time since the 90s!
"The War Child Records Instagram account currently follows just 13 other accounts: Arctic Monkeys, Pulp, Beck, Damon Albarn, Fontaines D.C., Graham Coxon, Kae Tempest, Arooj Aftab, Young Fathers, The Last Dinner Party and English Teacher. James Ford is the only producer followed."
Looking forward to it. Looks like Pulp will release new material sooner rather than later. If they give away a song like that, means 2026 will be busy !
The first warchild produced on of the best Oasis track : Fade Away acoustic, Noel vocals, Liam backing vox. Legendary.

So in 6 weeks time, we'll have 3 new Pulp songs! This song and the Man Comes Around single with the 2 B-sides. I wonder if any of them will be debuted live in Aus or NZ.
There was only one song left unfinished so it must be this:
Jarvis quote from Hot Press, May 2025:
We recorded 13 songs. One song is on the B-Side of the 7-inch of Spike Island. But there was another song that was quite angry, musically and that was the only one that I hit a block with the words. I kind of beat myself up over that a bit, thinking "Oh well, does that mean you're a bit of a softy now and you don't want to make a statement?" But it just didn't seem to fit with the rest of the record and so I think we will probably go back to that. There's plenty to get angry about. So maybe that's going to make a really abrasive, nasty record. Let's see.
Candida quote on the unfinished song from album sessions:
There's also another song that I really hoped would go on the LP but it hasnt made the final cut. I think Jarvis wasnt happy with the lyrics. But it was really great fun, and very loud.
I wonder if this is the angry/tonally wrong for More song that was unfinished in the sessions?
It must be.
"Pulp are proud to support @warchilduk and have contributed a song to the new album HELP(2). The basic tracks for Begging for Change were recorded during sessions for More. The song was left unfinished at the time, but was recently completed at @abbeyroadstudios for the forthcoming @warchildrecords LP."
Yet another very exciting development - three unheard tunes coming over the next couple of months. I can only hope that following this years dates and a break, they get that urge to write some more.
If 'More' is the final album then so be it, they went out on a high. But if they have some more stuff of such quality in them I won't ever say no to it.

Why final album ? Jarvis can sing and play until he's at least 90. He's the new mick jagger.
On a side not, in the age of streaming, are they expecting to sell a lot of this record ? How much money could they possibly raise from this ? Unless streams make a lot of money, i dont see it being more than symbolic.

"Damon Albarn is standing in the doorway of Abbey Road's canteen, deep in conversation with The Libertines' Carl Barât. Nearby, Pulp are queueing for a fresh batch of lasagne...Later in the day, Jarvis ****er got back from a bathroom break to find them (group of children) all in his studio - so he got them to sing the intro to a new Pulp song, Begging For Change.
"The just turned up, so I thought, 'Why not?'" he laughs. "I'm not used to that kind of thing, but it was really good."
"The concurrent recordings led to some intriguing cross-fertilisations: English Teacher ended up singing with Albarns childrens choir, who ****er also co-opted to scream on Pulps track, on the grounds that, he says, when you think of childrens choirs, you automatically think of the worst songs in the world, like Theres No One Quite Like Grandma, because they take kids with a lot of energy and life and make them do something supposedly grown-up and boring, so I thought it would be better to just get them to make a noise."

2029: We all move on with our lives
Ah, effectively I moved on back in 2004 after my daughter was born. I see the 2011 and 2023 reunions as reminiscing. Oddly enough I was in Theatre Royal Drury Lane on Sunday and telling my wife all about seeing Pulp there back in 1994 before I met her. And as I shared that tender moment, the bloke in front of me told me not to speak so loudly (during the interval). Obviously, being the magnanimous soul I am, I took this in the spirit it was intended and ensured I clapped right next to his ear at every moment in the second act. (Yes, I am incredibly petty, and it says a lot about me!)
"The rest of the HELP(2) sessions, the bulk of which took place over three days at Abbey Road, featured some other familiar faces, too. Back in 1996, when Pulp won the Mercury Prize for their era-defining album Different Class, they donated their winnings to War Child, feeling that The Help Album ought to have won instead. Three decades later, Jarvis ****er and company stepped up to contribute a characteristically droll rocker called "Begging for Change" to the new project."
