Solid start with Spike. Jools kept referring to Pulp being back after 25 years. Come on Julian, do your maths right. It did feel a bit 2001 when The Hives came on next with their three-chord Swedish swagger. Holland seems to be talking way too much with Suzanne Vega. Plenty more to come...

Nice interview with Jarvis at the piano. He mentioned how he's not naturally outgoing and it did strike me that on the TV and radio interviews this time round he does look a lot more bashful and shy than interviews 20 or 30 years ago. You'd imagine it would work the opposite way but maybe he felt the need to play-up to the quirky character back then.

Ha, yeah, substance-free might account for some of it.
Another fine performance of Farmers Market and Something Changed as a closer. It would have been nice if the Jools chat at the piano had been accompanied with him holding-up the new album on vinyl. Maybe they hadn't been delivered yet.
Radio 2 gig now hopefully with a sunrise and a sunset.
A tad frustrating that the first two numbers on the Radio 2 show have just been performed on Jools, (Spike Island and Something Changed). Casuals may have already turned over due to repetition.
Thought the same about the repetition. Tina is growing on me. I hope they play Hymn of the North at the gigs because it's missing from these performances and it's bloody amazing. That was funny what he said about it in the interview.
Just thinking also of what Jarvis was saying in the interview about the old songs being high. I've a naturally high singing voice and I've noticed I can sing perfectly in tune with some Pulp songs whereas usually I can't sing male songs. I'd have to change the key. Before I sang I used to think he had a deep voice. I think he's singing well.
I'm pleased he's kept the original key of the older songs. That they're not touring too extensively will help matters, if he was singing them for weeks/months end I think he'd inevitably experience fatigue and have trouble hitting the higher notes.

I was a bit surprised to hear that - thought Disco 2000 and Mis-Shapes, at least, had been transposed down in the 2023 shows.
Farmers Market was the highlight for me, think that's on its way to becoming a quiet classic.

Now you say it, yes Disco 2000 is a little lower. I think the energy of the song disguises that a little, I think it would be more obvious with a slower song (I'm reminded of Acrylic Afternoons on that botched Ultimate Live DVD with the audio running 4% slower).
Farmers Market sounds a lot like a song from Room 29 doesn't it. Wonder how it will sound like on the record.
Funny you should say that. Slow Jam reminds me a lot of Tearjerker.
OOOH nice. I just listened to Farmers Market from the Jools Holland, and now waiting for the record to drop to discover the other songs. Heard Slow Jam months ago but cant remember it.
Watched the interview again and it was quite lovely, wasn't it? Jools can be a bit lame at times but he asked good questions.
When Jarvis said that he needs the steps to be a specific height on-stage is that because he's getting too old to lift his legs high or is it because of the Cuban heels he often wears?
He jumps around on-stage as much as ever - which is impressive given he cracked a rib on-tour 18 months ago; I wouldn't have thought steps would be too much of an issue.
Smashed my ankle 20 years ago, and it gradually healed, and was fine, but 20 years later it's getting worse. Steps are tricky - shifting weight at an angle, can easily have wobbles.
Jarvis is, what, 40ish years out from the Spiderman incident? That'll have a cost now he's in his 60s, and still a showman. But so great he's still doing it. and doing it right, maybe inspired by what Candida has been doing all these years.
Another sweet moment was when Jarvis sang the line mentioning a glow-stick in Farmer's Market and briefly looked for one in his pocket (he took one out at the Radio 2 show) but it either wasn't there or he knew by the time he found it the reference would have passed, so he left it and smiled sheepishly.
Sweet interview indeed, i'm a bit like that, i like people from afar :D But i love nature. Maybe we should take Jarvis out sometimes and force him to feel the sweet unpolluted air.
