It might be a good idea to keep all the chatter of tomorrow's events in the same place. Maybe folk can use the spoiler tags too when talking about the new material...or perhaps not, and those of us not attending tomorrow, can choose not to read on here until the album comes out next week!

If anyone is going to the playback at Nottingham Rough Trade, it would be great if the Q&A with Mark could be recorded on a phone etc. and shared here afterwards. 

While I think this is a cool idea, it's hard to beat the first listen in quiet surroundings, with headphones on etc. Maybe the record-store staff could take requests to sync your bluetooth headpones to their stereo system!

Also, it would have been cool if they had teamed-up with "Pitchblack Playback" - this is an experience where you attend a theatre/small cinema and are given an eye-mask to wear before listening to an album in-full in the dark as if you were watching a film. The sound systems are invariably top-notch so you really get to hear the album loud but with the nuances.

I've gone to a couple of these, Talk Talk's Spirit Of Eden worked really well. Maybe "More" is a record that the organisers will consider in the future. 

Anyway, enjoy, anyone who's going tomorrow. Hope the songs hit home the first time (and if not, they almost definitely will after a few more plays after June 6th), and that you manage to get the Pulp swag that will be handed-out.

Going to one in Canterbury today. Will try and write down some thoughts for a proper album review, now that I've heard all the songs bar Grown-Ups. (Which is, suitably, the track I'm anticipating most.)

Well, if that turns out to be the swansong what a great one it is. HON really brings a tear to my eye. That is my favourite Pulp song. What a great song. GTHL really booms out. So many great songs. I was really relieved when eventually some oldies from the 80s and 90s came in. Jesus I felt old in that queue great the music is carrying on. The young uns were calling jarvis a grandad! Christ. It was worth it. Got me bag of stuff too. Will buy the CD next week in the local

Was skeptical but it's worth going. You get to listen on a nice record in a separate room

They actually were praising how much energy he has considering he's an ould lad!!! I felt like one of those people, 'well, in my day before the Internet I had to work very hard to find the demos and the b sides and walk to school barefoot' anyway, relieved there was a few my age and probably older also. I'd say they had maybe 25 bags maybe and there could've been 30 people there but we'd to get out pronto cos another group was waiting to get in. Yer man at the counter remarked that they weren't expecting so many to turn up. The cheek was it worth taking a precious day of annual leave off? It surely was. Now to drive home before the work traffic! Loving the album. Classy as always. A different class.

Couldn't help but smile at what I felt were deliberate nods to the past but maybe they weren't at all. I'll be interested if ye have the same interpretation when we've all heard it. I can't help but rave about HON. Beautiful. I'll keep the rest of my thoughts to myself. This is going to be a long week now waiting for the CD having heard the album in all its glory! Got a lovely big More poster. Think that might find itself in a frame. Anyway, enjoy if ye're going :)

Just finished the Action Records listening party, and whilst there I bumped into another of our Bar Italia patrons, Pye ! The album from start to finish is just glorious. It's not "Different Class", it's finitely got it's own style, and I simply adore it.

 

Background Noise will be the next single in my opinion. It's the best song on the album.

It was interesting seeing the spread of ages in Leeds. A few my age, but I'd say the majority were student age or maybe even younger. I was wondering what they'd make of it, but when it reached the end I heard at least two different people within earshot say "that was *so* good!". Which it was.

Manchester (Piccadilly Records) was already sold out so pretty much made my decision on whether or not to go along for the free booty. Hope you all enjoyed yourselves, those that did venture out! The 7th May concert is about to get underway on Radio 2 - I'll be listening a little later on cos adulting, sigh.

I'm on my way home from Rough Trade in Nottingham. It was busy, already a decent queue when I arrived half hour before the start. Like elsewhere a real mix of ages, quite different from at Nick's book talk last year, when almost everyone was about my age (mid-40s). Got Mark to sign my free poster afterwards and had a brief chat. Recorded the Q&A but not sure how it's come out yet. The album seemed to get a good reception despite the sound quality in the room not being particularly great.

I was at Rough Trade west, I'd not been to one of these kinds of things before so I didn't think it would start dead on 3, got there at 310 and I'd missed 2 songs (sob) Good mix of ages there, it was mainly young folk with maybe 10 middle ages and I was very glad not to be the oldest there for once
