The non-Pulp musicians all appear to be multi-disciplined, can play at least two instruments and in many cases more than that. So they all earn their stripes. Adam is perhaps the most expendable but he's still adding something different to each song.

It would sound very sparse without them, and would put even more pressure on the original band members.
Music aside, I think the "gang" mentality of the larger group has really helped the original four gel again as a working unit and avoid arguments, especially as we know they now rarely socialise outside of the band.

Isn't that the case for most bands as they grow old ?
I'm always for minimalism in live music, every instrument onstage need to be very important otherwise there is no need. I suppose the second keyboard player is to play what candida cant play. But 2 more guitars ? hmmm, 1 only was necessary. And that other drummer ? Hmmm... anyway, if that works for them. Good enough for me.

I guess in 2011/12 it was three guitars (Leo Abrahams) so is following that.
It's great ogave violins and saxophones for the bits that need them, so I would argue those are important. Take your point though, when Radiohead got a second drummer I was a bit suspiscious.
Does anyone know what the chances of more media promotion are outside of the BBC? These sessions were such fun to watch.
Can't they kiss and make-up with Chris Evans and play a few songs on his Virgin Radio show next week? Seal that number one album spot etc. I do chuckle when I think of Mark Webber's comment about Evans, the last time they played on TFI Friday. "He finally found out that we hated him".
Had to turn it off half-way through. Evans has turned into even more of a caricature. He makes it all about himself even when he's quoting the guest who barely gets a word in. He's too excitable, projects his own ****e, dresses it up in over the top complimenting...yuck.
Can imagine Jarvis and Mark squirming their way through a chat with him.
Hopefully there are other shows/podcasts for the lads and lassie to go on. Candida for Loose Women?! The one good thing about Evans/Virgin is that they do live sessions with the band and after all the BBC ones went so well, I just want to hear more!
