I've always loved the Evening Session She's a Lady but hearing it on CD properly mastered (and cranked up, ha) is next level. You can tell they've just come off tour at this point - tight as you like, and Nick's ass has exactly the right amount of lead in it!
Received yesterday (Spain here) the Mojo June magazine with the CD and OMG.. being honest, i think i had never liked SHE'S A LADY so much. In my humble opinion, better than the H'n'H version. Sounds like if it had been produced by Neil Tennant! First time i hear it and think "oh, man, this could have been a single"

That's Harsh ! I always liked the production on HnH. It might be a bit over the top, but i gives the record a feel of being completely sucked in the sound. Like layers and layers and layers of blanket on a winter night on your bed. It's comfy.
Ed Buller and the band (let's face it, they had some responsibility) made some great choices on HnH but dropping the violin and slowing the tempo was a bad one.

But that meant pushing the violin back up again and speeding the tempo on DC. So all in all ? we got really great album followed by masterpiece.
Rough Trade look to have an alternative cover for sale
I ordered the "regular" cover via Great Magazine UK on April 11. I haven't got my copy yet, so they kindly gave me a refund... So, I ordered this special version at the Rough Trade US store just now. The shipping to Canada is ridiculous! Anyway, I am the fool in Canada.
Anyone who wants this cover, go to Rough Trade US store.
Saw the Canadian copy today, maybe the North American copy. Sadly, Pulp is not as popular as they are in Europe. Jarvis only gets a little spot on the top right.
I see Mojo are giving Suede similar treatment for their new edition - front cover (full band) with a free CD of rarities. Cheapest the Pulp one a bit - this was Pulp's comeback after decades away. Suede have been prolific since their return with 4 albums since 2013.
Nice little collection of goodies..
I'm curious though about the time gap between what do you say? and death comes to town..
Anything 83-'86 absent..
A fire records issue perhaps?

Could be a Fire thing, or maybe Jarvis still feels a bit weird about the dismal mid 80s (although his book suggests he looks a bit more warmly on that period than he used to). A cheeky Maureen wouldn't have hurt though, and would presumably predate any contract with Fire. Who knows.

So what's the story with "Sliding Through Life on a Charm"? Was it always intended as a Marianne Faithfull song or was it a Pulp demo later repurposed for her album? Also, did Pulp record other songs alongside it in 1999? Its recording isn't mentioned on the wiki

The story I've heard is that Jarvis met Marianne in a recording studio in Paris somewhere and she asked him to write a song for her. He agreed on the condition that she gave him a title and Sliding Through Life on Charm was what she came up with.
