Activeboard is pretty good in that it will run itself without any interference.  I have administered another for 20 years or so after an err hostile takeover and havent raised a support ticket since 2013.  If something extreme did occur, I can get in contact but there are lots of activeboard forums out there and there is no reason to believe anything untoward will happen.

I did think about this the last time the subject of Steve's disappearance came up. I was a moderator on another forum years ago and the company stopped doing forums. The admin was able to migrate all usernames and posts to a new forum with a different company. Also, the same happened with the previous Bar Italia forum, I remember Steve moving to Activeboard but he couldn't migrate any usernames or posts because the previous forum didn't require registration and posts dropped off after a certain period of time.

If the worst was to happen, then I'm sure we would find out in advance. I have webspace and could easily implement a replacement forum (I actually tried making a dummy one to see what it would be like). If usernames and posts can be migrated then it would be even better.

However, as ArrGee says above, it seems highly unlikely that anything untoward will happen. I know that there was once some concern about funding but that was years ago and the forum is still going strong.

There's plenty of younger pulpheads willing to help if needs be. Hell I've even been thinking of setting up a new mailing list or a zine or something

The Mojo article is a good read (great to hear from Ant Genn and great quotes from Hawley too) but doesn't really delve into the new album much. A lyric quote from "Tina" being the most revealing thing.

Interesting that More may not be the final full stop (well, it is followed by a comma on the record sleeve after all), Jarvis seems open to the future.

Mark finally gets a plug for his book too (don't think Mojo or Uncut reviewed it), there's nice Pulp prizes on offer for their monthly crossword.

I used to be so gutted on the old message board when my long, shitty posts used to drop-off.

First few weeks at university I remember eulogising over Lipgloss on its 10th anniversary (!) to be met by tumbleweed. But, sometimes, you want your tumbleweed to somehow survive - through cracks in the pavement an'shi...

I'm very impressed by the Mojo CD.

They could have just put out a bunch of album tracks or remixes of the hits. This is a real gift to fans. Bless.

Only 3 stars for Intro though? Gtfo.

The three stars for Intro is at odds with the review which is only complimentary.

The article is OK- a bit 'history of Pulp by numbers', but the interview snippets are fun.

Not heard the CD yet. Where's the live HnH from? Mark's blurb suggests it's the Butt Naked version, but they "don't know the date"...? Bizarre!

Looks like Mark had a big hand in compiling the front CD. Probably the biggest hand, tbh.

HnH is Butt Naked but I think they've added-in an extra confession or two from the audience (possibly unedited from the original Butt Naked performance) as to what makes them frightened. "What makes me what?" "FRIGHTENED!"

One thing I know for sure is that the live What Do You Say was, surprisingly, Jarvis's suggestion for the CD!

Looking forward to picking up the mag tomorrow. I've been good and not downloaded the CD rip or looked at the images of the article.

If we were to up sticks from Activeboard, Tapatalk seems like it might be a solid option that would provide a more modern interface...

Arrgee, if you want I could reach out to Steve and see if he'd be willing to hand over / share admin privileges. Don't want to cause a fuss if it's not felt to be needed/desirable though!

This forum is so cosy though. And surely we're all used to this black and orange colour scheme by now!

Btw, the Mojo editor imparted a new fact (I've checked PulpWiki and reallife Wiki and there's no mention!) in a throwaway manner - the chart position of OU - I didn't think it sold enough to come anywhere. I mean it's low down (Pulp's lowest til After You) but those who haven't read it, have a guess where... ?

That also means that Babies (1992) must have a chart position too - upward momentum would suggest higher than OU and lower than Razzmatazz (80) and Lipgloss (50).

I have just had a quick look and Tapatalk seems quite decent. Certainly worth considering if Activeboard was to ever disappear. It looks like they can migrate data from other forums too.

As a moderator, I think that it would be a good idea to reach out to Steve then there is always a contingency in place. It would be a crying shame if this forum was to disappear altogether and whilst setting up a new one would be easy, informing all members wouldn't be. ArrGee is "higher up" than me so it's probably best for him to decide if he wants you to reach out to Steve.

I love that we have the 2023 rehearsal of The Trees on there, though having listened a couple of times, for me it is more obvious now why it didn't make the setlist.

As lovely as it is have the live strings, and whilst it is only a rehearsal take, there is a distinct lack of energy and Jarvis sounds like he is struggling a little with the most challenging parts of the vocal ("Carving your name a thousand times won't bring you back to meeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEE"), which is entirely understandable a good 20+ years later. In conclusion, probably not one they would want to revisit night after night in an arena/festival setting.

Well he's not shying away from vocal strain on the comeback single and Misshapes is really testing with fast, high singing required. I think Trees is just not fit for mass crowds as you say. In a theatre or small venue, this arrangement would be lush.

Interesting in the interview Jarvis seems pretty confident its not the last Pulp record.

Its also crazy how badly they all talk about TIH era, when it produced such an amazing record.

Ah thanks, but there is no hierarchy of moderator.  I just pleased there is another good soul like yourself to contact when I need to moderate.

It would be good to have an administrator account as I get a few requests to remove accounts, that I am unable to do.  So happy for anyone to contact Steve to enable that.

As for setting up a new forum, I would advise against it.  I have been through a few "migrations" and in the end everyone just goes back to the original forum.  Activeboard doesnt get much SPAM and is 99.99% reliable unlike some of the forums I participate in.  Also it is a great archive of the last 20 years, even if you have to "quote" to search.

I agree that there's no point moving just for the sake of it but if either or both of us could get admin access then we would know in advance if something was going to happen. It seems unlikely considering this forum has been active for almost 20 years.

Hello!

Sorry for adding to this thread with admin talk instead of Mojo covermount talk but it seemed appropriate :) Sturdy just reached out and here I am.

So, firstly I'm not dead. Secondly, I have recovered my login details. Thirdly, no problem handing over the reins of power if people are willing to take it on! In the longer term I'm happy to transfer the forum to someone else's ownership but I'm wary of doing that right away because it looks like it might wipe everything, which would not be ideal (I'm glad to see some people remember how unpleasant it was losing the old posts from like 20 years ago or whatever it was). In the meantime, I'm seeing what I can do within the existing structure. Apparently moderators should already be able to create other moderators but I am trying to create some kind of enhanced permissions for mods and another tier of user with full owner powers - we'll see what that actually does...

Anyway, hello everyone, long long long long long time no see.

Steve
