I was just about to post the same thing. I'm thinking: if this is what the later demo sounded like, then Pulp could have stormed the charts in 2001 with singles like this and "After You". A very welcome resurrection and it fits well alongside the other new material. So now we've got [over] half an album's worth of new songs...

Got To Have Love doesn't really do much for me but it'd be exciting if they started mining the WWL demos for something new. Would it be too much to start to wonder if Pulp's final release could potentially be a double album?
Fuck my old boots...did not expect this as the next curveball!
Interesting that it retains the chorus of the instrumental demo we've known for years with no other embellishment. But that seems to be a strong enough hook to carry the song.
Agreed on the point that there's commercial potential in this, makes you wonder why Island's A&R men weren't pleading with Pulp to record this and After You with Scott Walker if they were worried about the lack of hits.
The verse lyrics feel new to me as if they've been shoehorned to fit the existing chorus. Not saying they're bad or 'owt. There was another demo version with lyrics from 2000, wasn't there?

Lots of bands now issue multiple editions of their new album with expensive options so there are large margins to be made beyond the £12 for a one-CD edition.
Including a CD of original demos would help pad-out a deluxe edition.
I can't see why the WLL demos won't get released at some point, every artist empties their archives these days. This might be the easiest way of doing it (although I'd obvs prefer a proper WLL superdeluxe with the live show from Venice in 1999 etc.).
And that makes six. The manila folder marked 'Album Evidence' is nearly bursting at the seams.
Cool song! The WLL demos is an area of Pulp history that I've not educated myself on beyond After You. I'm liking the variety of genres and sounds we're getting too. Cooking up something real nice.
Very, very exciting. Loving the unpredictability. Great performance. I realty hope more of the WLL demos surface. If their recent activity is reflective of what theyll be recording then its looking a great mix of old and new
Road-testing new songs could just be part of the fun, the spontaneity of touring, creativity without strings attached. But revisiting old material, to polish it: that's different. THAT suggests they're purposefully revisiting old material in order to do something with it. There will be a new Pulp album.

Usually when the contract is about to end and there's a best of after that, record labels dont push so hard and dont care. So "last" albums are usually rushed, wild or completely out there.
Aw, wow, I feel like I'm dreaming! Got To Have Love is amazing. Real earworm that one. I just love My Mistake, Grandfather's Nursery and Cuckoo too. Those songs are more than worthy of being on any new release. I'd love to have them on an official release. Loving the new tunes too.
2025, 30 years since those dizzy heights! Feels like it's going to be a special year. Ah, Pulp, you're fcukin amazing :) love you!
Nice to have a couple of old songs that didn't previously make it return for a new album. But really I'm mostly interested where Pulp are at today and what Jarvis has to say for himself in the present. Hope they don't raid the WLL cupboard too much.
A new album and at some point a WLL deluxe would be best case scenario.

I think this is my favourite of the new additions so far. The band seem to be really cooking on it. Lyrics maybe still need to settle in a bit, but I just really like the vibe of it.

He's alive !!!! Wondered when you would chirp up :)
Got To Have Love, Cuckoo, The Quiet Revolution, After You. Maybe they plan new recordings, or releasing the old versions. Both ? I want both;
What are the chances we get the new album in the fall ? Oasis returning next year could overshadow the album, they need to move fast (Its gonna be hard pulp being pulp )

Supergrass about to announce their return too (I know they've played live since the pandemic so hopefully it's a new album).
Edit - they've just announced that it's just them touring their debut album in full, live. Pretty disappointing as they play more than half those songs anyway at every gig. Similar with Pulp and Different Class. A 30th anniversary tour of that would be so reductive. So glad it'll be a new album instead (fingers crossed).

There were two versions recorded at the Wessex Studios. The first, recorded in October 1999, is the instrumental with backing vocalists singing "Got to have love, you've got to have love" many times. This version has been circulated. The second was recorded in January 2000 and most likely featured vocals from Jarvis but it has never been leaked so we cannot confirm this beyond doubt.
Got To Have Love is starting to become my favourite song at the moment- theres a recording on youtube where it sounds heavy and it really tickles my pickle.. On a slightly different note, remember when Nick bought a new drum kit for the tour- Im starting to think that he got it for new material (as well as the tour)- and I think this has been building in the background for longer than we think could be wrong though..
The only reason why I say this is because I met Jarvis at his Good Pop Bad Pop exhibition in May in 2022 and I think it was one of his assistants or whoever had an iPad and quite a lot of paperwork with her, all Pulp related as I saw the screen of her iPad which had the album cover of separations in a document and had a sneaky peek at her paperwork she was holding (I saw these from a distance- I didnt rifle through them!)- I didnt think anything at the time because obviously I didnt think it was strange seeing Pulp notes around Jarvis, but it just stayed in my mind, cos it felt a little out of place
Anyway- here is the link for the heavy version of Got To Have Love, does it tickle anyone elses pickle?
Yeah it sounds heavier, mainly because the bass is better recorded by the phone; But i guess that's how they want it to sound.
I really love that song too, always have when it had no vocals and even more now. Its just perfect, it was a perfect single back then, and would be a perfect single now.
they just need to not treat it the way they did with After You and try to sound "modern". Keep your sound, Pulp;

I Loved the demo as well- i was always curious on what it would sound like with lyrics and its completely different that i imagined- in a very good way
I quite like the modern After You, I liked the original demo as well- my brother could never get into the modern version of After you though, he said it wasnt bad, but it just didnt click with him they way other Pulp songs do..
I think they are sounding more traditional Pulp with their latest music- Candidas farfisa organ sounds more prominent- Im loving the way they are sounding- this new album could be one of their best

Yeah After You i'm with your brother ! it never clicked either, and I really love the demo. They didn't need to add too much, just a more polished version of the demo could have been great. I think the 2013 version loses a bit of charm, it sounds less "desperate" or raw. they tried to add some which electro bits dont work at all to me. The keyboards parts are also less good, they were perfect on the demo. Just one or two notes missing and its played differently, but it changes everything.

Loving that video, Pye. Thank you. Yeah, this and Hymn of the North are definitely my faves. This is brilliant and it is calling to mind the Separations era Pulp a bit but as mentioned elsewhere all of the recent tunes are sounding like old Pulp. I'm eally loving it. It's always quality over quantity with Pulp. I liked this song already from the demos but I'm just loving what they've done with it here. Really gets stuck in my mind. This would be the single in my mind. Totally agree it should've been the single over 20 years ago too!

It whats your what ??!?!??
Tickles my pickle! - roughly translates to it does it for me- someone said it to me a long time ago and I had to steal it and use it as often as possible
