There was no realistic chance of him winning that Con/LibDem marginal, and he would have known this. Maybe it's a practice run and he'll get a winnable seat in the furure?

Lisa Nandy, the new Culture Secretary (and indirectly, my boss's boss's boss's boss) is a big Pulp fan. Different Class is her favourite album and there's a video of her and Jon Ashworth (who lost his seat, the silly goose) singing Common People (mostly him and mostly badly) at a Labour party conference last year.

Would have been professional classical cellist Thangam Debonnaire if she hadn't lost to the Greens. Hopefully she will have an appreciation of "low brow" culture.
