For reasons too convoluted to go into here, I own about 25 CD copies each of the two Venini singles, Mon Camion and Carnival Star. Brand new (or 'as-new' anyway, ie 25 years old but unplayed and untouched).
They've followed me from address to address over the years, bar the odd one I've managed to sell, and the odd one that I've managed to press into someone's hands for one reason or another.
I'm about to move house again, and frankly I can't face hauling them along with me once again and shoving them in yet another dusty drawer in the spare room.
Equally, I don't want to throw them away because I bloody loved Venini and those singles (and the circumstances in which I got them) still hold a special place in my heart.
So, does anyone want one? Indeed, does anyone want all of them?
Open to swaps, barters, hard cash, blackmail, sob stories, and/or people pointing out to me that as I've got literally nothing to gain by hanging on to them, I may as well just give them away for free.
Apply within, as they say.
PS Before anyone asks, I don't have any vinyl, and I don't have any spares of the Unshaker EP

Hello! Sorry I've not been on here much lately. Anyone who's interested, PM me with your address and whether you'd like one or both singles (multiple copies available if you really want to push the boat out!), and I'll supply bank details and suchlike. Thank you!

I'm not sure if you're the right person to ask but you might know - are there any plans to put the Venini songs onto streaming platforms? It would be nice to include them in a couple of playlists
I don't think there are plans, no. I passed on a message to Russell a few years ago from someone who wanted to include Carnival Star on a compilation album, and he wasn't having any of it. Shame.

No, I'm not sure exactly, except maybe just a general sense of having left his music life behind, and not wanting to get involved with any of it, even at arm's length. I guess as he (presumably) owns all the Venini material himself, it'd involve more direct admin than a Pulp release where you can just sit back and let the money roll in. So maybe he just doesn't want the faff.

Another question - are there any live Venini recordings out there? I remember some of the reviews being quite negative but if anything, I'd imagine that some of their material would have worked better live.
None that I've come across. The band supposedly recorded one of the gigs (a London one if I remember rightly) but I never heard it. I remember Debbie saying the mix on it was weird anyway, like you sometimes get with desk recordings.
I saw them live three times (Glastonbury, Leeds and Shepherds Bush Empire) and I thought they were great! Memories are vague in terms of the sound, except maybe a bit harder than the singles. I guess the unreleased album (which I think got leaked in the end?) is a closer representation. They seemed to get better every time. Wish I'd had the wherewithal to record them!

I agree with you that they seemed to get better over time. When you sent me a copy of the album about 20 years ago, I was pleasantly surprised at how well the songs work alongside each other. If they had stayed together and recorded more material, I dare say it would have been better still.
Yup, I managed to find a source for it that was happy for me to leak it. I think it ended up on here and on the Facebook groups.
And Lipglossed, if you need a hand writing up my Russell interview into something coherent, I'm in a reasonable space to be able to turn my eye to anything you've got that's half-finished. Email it across and I'll do some work on it too, if it helps!
