Did they do anything much in the way of photo sessions for WLL? Found a few pics (mostly of jarvis alone) in the press sections of Pulpwiki / acrylic afternoons but seems like quantity-wise it's night and day compared to the hardcore era. I don't think i've been able to find a single photo that wasn't taken specifically for a magazine story. Do enjoy photos of sweater-clad Pulp milling about copses so am wondering if there might be more out there...?
Don't have the album booklet in front of me but isn't there a group shot of them in a camper van? And another, where they're in a field of reeds (and weeds?).

I think it's a corn (maize) field.
There is two group shots in the mini-van. One where they all look miserable and another where they are laughing.
Iirc they were shooting photos for the press pack on the afternoon of 11 September 2001, and were rather rudely interrupted by, well, you know the rest...
I think after that there probably wasn't much enthusiasm by the band or the label for doing more photo shoots. The album came out a mere 40 days later - whilst the world was still in a state of paralyzed shock, whilst Bush and Blair were figuring out who to bomb in retaliation, whilst airports were only just starting to run flights again, when "anthrax" was suddenly more than a crap heavy metal band, and I doubt anyone was expecting the album to gain much media attention amid this milkshake of global tumult.
For those who aren't aware the band also irritated their label by changing the album title for the 3rd time (previously it was to be released as "Pulp Love Life", then just "Pulp", then after 9-11, "We Love Life"). That's why on the album artwork the title is meant to look like it was taped on with a label maker- a self-referential joke about the band's late change.
Anyway, what I am saying is, I think they were probably too preoccupied to do press materials or ham it up for the cameras at the time.
I think the woolly jumper and flared cords photos came about later when the band were promoting the forest tour.
(Recollections may differ)

Was much made of Steve holding up the sign that says "BYE" at the time? It's not unlike Michael Stipe waving 'goodbye' on the cover of that last REM album.

Not sure but I do remember one or two reviews saying things like "If this is to be Pulp's swansong, it's a fine way to bow-out".
I'd love to re-visit the Jarvis interview on CD:UK that September after the band had mimed "Trees" - I recorded it on VHS at the time but haven't seen it since. I think in Truth & Beauty, Sturdy alludes to jaded-Jarvis rather than the reborn-hippy Jarvis he was alternately portrayed at the time; when he's asked by the bright-eyed and bushy-tailed trio of Ant 'n' Dec 'n' Cat what he thinks about Robbie Williams or Britney Spears. He justs sighs a weary "They're alright, I suppose...". This popstar had left the building.
