I'd love a Christmas song! Two of my favourite things - Pulp and Christmas. Always loved their live cover of I Believe in Father Christmas. I'd have loved a good quality version of that. I haven't actually listened to Background Noise since early Sunday but I've found the chorus is in my head since even though I preferred the verses while listening. It's a bit of an earworm I think.
I always wondered if there was an unreleased attempt at a studio version of I Believe in Father Christmas. I know they performed it live, but on the Hits DVD (I'm sure this has already been discussed) there's a clip of Jarv listening to a recording of them performing it. It looks like it's from around the time of the His 'n' Hers sessions...
I thought the same as you, Sleeve, but any time the topic has come up on this forum before the general consensus is that there's only the live recording. I really think what we hear on the Hits DVD sounds clearer though as if there was a studio recording done. If so, I would love to hear it because they make that song their own. I prefer it way more than the original. It sounds really Intro/HnH era Pulp to me - i know their live version is that era but they've made it sound believable as if it was their very own original song from that era. I know sometimes people see Christmas songs as cheesy but I think a Christmas song would be right up their street. There was that Christmas list thing either Jarvis or Pulp did years ago and there was the Christmas card in 2012 and there was this cover.

Jarvis referred to "Snow", the mid-80s almost lost Pulp song were it not for diligent bootlegging (Jason, legend) in a Radio Times (I think) article a few years ago. Seemed such an obscure reference thar maybe he's had thoughts of reviving it. Did seem to have potential.
