Not 100% sure if I should be telling you all this and ruining the surprise but Im so excited about it I just cant help myself. I have just heard from a very reputable source who spoke to Jarvis and Candida yesterday that they have been working on a new song. Its almost ready and likely to be debuted at one of the London shows. Big news, thats something major to look forward to. Now I just need to get myself one of those coveted Apollo tickets!
I've said all along that there is something HUGE going on that we dont know about. The lack of variation in the setlist is a giveaway for me as if they have only rehearsed say 20 songs for this tour (in comparison to what 70 odd the last reunion or whatever it was ) that leaves ample room for new songs to be written for memories sakes.
With the further addition of the guys from Jarv Is along with the orchestra, there is a wide horizon for creative writing, as well as possible demos being revisited like what happened with After You.
The Tour.....there has been ALOT of money spent on new equipment ( amps, candida looks like she has a new synth, nicks new drums....that's an expense to say they are only going to be around for this tour.
If this is indeed true about a new song being written, of which I'd not be surprised, then for me - a new album is on the way.

Not noticed the amps, but Candidas setup is same as 2011/12 with the Farfisa and Novation MIDI.

Ahh I didn't realise Candidas keyboard was the same. My bad.
Dont worry - I have an excessive geekiness on this particular topic!
I did see the Farfisa specifically, I have a synth nerd husband, so have been trained to look at these things. Nick didn't seem overly familiar with his drum kit in that video he put out the other day, so I assumed they were all new.

We'll use the one thing we've got more of, that's our minds.
It's been the first time since the reunion anyone at all has mentioned about a new song.....so it's a bit different than that "Nintendo" statement. As cynical I am, it's alway nice to keep an open mind :)
Working on a new song >> eh ? meh Jarvis thinks >>> demos pile >>> listed on Pulp Wiki and never heard of again >>>> Jarvis back to doing unecessary collabs for Wes Anderson movies >>>> 15 years later bar Italia members still begging for a release.

I'm genuinely not bothered about Pulp recording again. Beyond The Pale was one of my absolute favourite things Jarvis has done, if he continues down that road with Jarv Is... that will more than satisfy the itch.
My view on the events is that they will first release all the back catalog on streaming, starting with the EPS and singles, and then re-release the albums on streaming as well with a few new rarities in the fall.
Doesn't cost much, get press, plays and a bit of money. easy. Doubt there will be new material. And i agree, its not really needed.

In the BBC interview from today, Nick talks about some special double decker bus being used to drive fans to the venue in Sheffield, and that there will be a competition to get spaces on them. The big Sheffield anouncement could be just that - Im not keeping my hopes up.
Well, that may be the big news from Nick... but maybe... maybe new material will be forthcoming and we have to wait for Jarvis to tell us... NOT Nick, because he is rubbish at BIG news.
I'd love a Christmas song! Two of my favourite things - Pulp and Christmas. Always loved their live cover of I Believe in Father Christmas. I'd have loved a good quality version of that. I haven't actually listened to Background Noise since early Sunday but I've found the chorus is in my head since even though I preferred the verses while listening. It's a bit of an earworm I think.
I always wondered if there was an unreleased attempt at a studio version of I Believe in Father Christmas. I know they performed it live, but on the Hits DVD (I'm sure this has already been discussed) there's a clip of Jarv listening to a recording of them performing it. It looks like it's from around the time of the His 'n' Hers sessions...
I thought the same as you, Sleeve, but any time the topic has come up on this forum before the general consensus is that there's only the live recording. I really think what we hear on the Hits DVD sounds clearer though as if there was a studio recording done. If so, I would love to hear it because they make that song their own. I prefer it way more than the original. It sounds really Intro/HnH era Pulp to me - i know their live version is that era but they've made it sound believable as if it was their very own original song from that era. I know sometimes people see Christmas songs as cheesy but I think a Christmas song would be right up their street. There was that Christmas list thing either Jarvis or Pulp did years ago and there was the Christmas card in 2012 and there was this cover.

Jarvis referred to "Snow", the mid-80s almost lost Pulp song were it not for diligent bootlegging (Jason, legend) in a Radio Times (I think) article a few years ago. Seemed such an obscure reference thar maybe he's had thoughts of reviving it. Did seem to have potential.
