Five glorious minutes of surely one of the weirdest TV appearances of their career. Taken from the bizarre "JMTV Rocks The Garden" show on Ireland's Network 2 channel from March 1993.
Now, bits of this are on the "TV Madness" section of the Pulp: Hits DVD, but here is the full fashion parade plus a Jarvis interview/competition give-away with the madcap presenter.
Alex from Pulp People once sent me a VHS copy of the entire show, which also featured mimed versions of Stacks (!) and Razzmatazz. This went missing in the post in October 2005 when I entrusted my brother to mail it to Will (PulpWiki) in a Pulp recordings trade. And I've bemoaned the loss ever since. I would have expected the full show/all the Pulp bits to be uploaded to Youtube by now but no one seems to have the full thing. But this, at least, gives us a little more of the wonderful weirdness. The good-nature that the group show in going along with the silliness really helps make it so amusing and some of their quips are hilarious (never mind the zany host).
Strangely, I looked for this clip on the RTE archives earlier this year and it wasn't there. Which annoyed me a bit, as a clip of Cornershop's appearance a few weeks earlier had been uploaded. Looks like this was only put up towards the end of March, maybe triggered by Steve's death (who features here, being lovely), I don't know...
That is really funny in a cringey way. They did very well to go along with it in good humour! I found that on that Russell Tumblr (that is amazing for not just Russell but the whole band). I love the competition bit at the end. I wonder is it worth asking rte have they the whole thing.
It's Zurdta I believe :) i just found the link when i was reading old posts here. it's really a treasure trove of material, Zurdta. Really great blog. I was having a good read of it last week. I'd love to have a few days off to read it all!
There's no harm in me firing off an email to rte to see have they any more is there (although I think they are a bit busy at the moment with other things!) But I'll see. They must have the whole thing.
I'll try that ;) no harm in asking. They might be getting so many negative messages at the moment that a Pulp fan looking for some footage would be a welcome break!

Yes it is me. I am the Russell tumblr. Thank you for the kind words.
And I would love to get my hands on the full RTE JMTV Rocks episode too

Nice spot Eamonn! Lovely to see the whole fashion catwalk section at last (with the previously absent Steve).
Whilst updating PulpWiki with the video link I've noticed the RTE article gives the broadcast date as 26th March, as opposed to 2nd April on PulpWiki - anyone know which is correct?

As Sarah pointed out on Twitter, Mark W's appearance at the table with Jarvis and the host, dressed in an awful, hooded anorak, looks hilarious. I really want to see the full show!
Also, I had a quick read of Russell's memories from this in his book just now and he says they were made look like fools and all he encountered on the trip were Irish stereotypes (pictures of spuds, sacred whiskey etc.). Strange then, that Pulpwiki states that they interviewed the group Shonen Knife for the show a couple of weeks later - so they must have enjoyed themselves a bit!
They acknowledged the email and wanted to know what I wanted it for. I did ask if there was any chance more of it could be made publicly available on the archive site. Sure we'll see what happens/if anything happens.
They didn't say but that was my follow up question. I haven't heard back on that. I also asked in that follow up is there any chance of making it available on the archive because that's really what we'd want!
I suspect they're not permitted to sell programmes to the public, only licence material out to TV/film production companies and the like. It can be very expensive, which is why a lot of broadcasters these days source clips from YouTube and only use short clips under 'fair use'.

Fair point Pip.
Hopefully they will make it available on their archive site - or make more of it available on there.
Re Youtube and people uploading whatever they feel like on it i.e TV broadcasts - at what point did content owners say "Fuck it...there's nothing we can do about it"?

It all depends on the original copyright holders and how hot they are on checking for infringements - and that's if the copyright owners even exist anymore, there are plenty of old TV shows in limbo.
Some videos will receive DMCA takedown requests and are blocked worldwide for using just a few seconds of a song/TV show, and yet some channels out there are making whole series available without any issue, even monetizing the videos in some cases.

Fingers crossed, it's probably the only chance we'll have of seeing it - unless someone here works at RTE and can sneak a copy off their servers! Not that I'd suggest such a thing, honest.

Didn't get a chance to log on earlier. Basically it's a 'no'! Something about high demand for broadcast critical material for production and can't make it available for personal use.

Yeah, it's a pity. Thought they might because it's a sinking ship and they don't seem to have followed all protocols before! Maybe it'll surface another time.
