Hope anyone there has an amazing time tonight! Kick-off in just under 50 minutes...
As it's the first festival gig of the tour (Neighbourhood Festival), it'll be interesting to see the setlist.
Pulp last played at Warrington's Victoria Park in 1996, at V Festival. Back then, the setlist was:
Mis-Shapes / DYRTFT? / Monday Morning / I Spy / Mile End / Live Bed Show / Something Changed / Help the Aged / Sorted for Es and Wizz / Pencil Skirt / F.E.E.L.I.N.G.C.A.L.L.E.D.L.O.V.E. / Underwear / Common People / Disco 2000 / Babies
We'll see if they play a similar set tonight! I'm expecting a couple of tour debuts... It's meant to be a 90-minute set, so I'm assuming it'll be hit-heavy? We will see...
I Spy
Disco 2000
Something Changed
Dishes
Pink Glove
Sorted for Es and Wizz
This Is Hardcore
F.E.E.L.I.N.G.C.A.L.L.E.D.L.O.V.E.

Do You Remember the First Time?

Like a Friend
Underwear
Common People
ive booked saturday tickets for sheffield, praying that they throw some oldies and rarities out of the bag like they did last time.
i think for the festival types and of course the opening show they will want to keep it more familiar for those who aren't that well known with their discography, especially festival goers who tend to know the big hits. still nice to see some we love life tracks being played but wish there was more TIH era songs.
we are only 2 gigs in so we can't worry too much just yet.
Surprisingly similar to Bridlington - does that main they'll be touring a less hit-heavy setlist than last time?
Is it largely going to be standardised?
I can see it staying relatively the same, given how few dates there are. Pleased to see Weeds/Weeds II weren't dropped for another hit (like Mis-Shapes).
Surprised that Dishes and the Weeds stayed in. Any feedback buzz online? I wonder if any of Pulp's festival appearances will be televised over the summer.
The setlist mightn't look stunning on paper, but in practice it was amazing. One of the best times I've seen Pulp, in fact. Absolutely firing on all cylinders.

Bridlington was ludicrously phenomenal. Sounds like it's going to be a running theme!!!
Just seen a couple of vids from Warrington on Facebook. Loved his intro to Underwear: "This is dedicated to my girlfriend, KS. You might think that sounds romantic but you haven't heard the words yet..."
Ooh, yer mucky pup, Cocker. It's a dirty world alright...
Wow, what can I say about the performance ! I'll get to Pulp shortly. First of all, the other artists I saw.
Bootleg Beatles - they were really fun, sounded good too !! Possibly the best tribute act going?
Gaz Coombs - what the hell was he wearing that insanely big green coat for, it was cracking the flags !! Good solo set with his recent and last solo albums.
Kula Shaker - had some AWFUL sound problems , with people complaining to the control box where I was stood. A little disappointing for them I'd imagine. Hush and Tatva the stand out songs.
Ella Henderson - good vocals, gutted that she had butchered so many Ibiza trance classics.
Gang of Youths - they were bloody good !!! Nutter of a front man, openly telling us what bands some of his songs ripped off (all tongue in cheek), also a devotee Evertonian. Top band!
Sea Girls - boring. Not wasting any more time talking about them.
Self Esteem - don't know too much about her, but she gave her all too the performance. Good stuff.
That band called Pulp..... A 5 minute intro into I Spy - with Jarvis rising up onto the stage via a lift, this version of I Spy could easily be a Bond song !! Disco 2000 next and the crowd went nuts. Something Changed and Dishes slowed things down with a nice few words from Jarvis about Steve. You know what , fuck it..... The whole gig was the best Pulp gig I've seen yet. Anywhere. They were so close, and the strings section just made it perfect.
Blimey, I assumed this "encore tour" was a full-stop, signed off by their accountants and physicians. Maybe not. Or maybe Jarv was getting swept-away by the moment.
I took that with a pinch of salt as I remember him saying similar at the end of their Glasto 2011 set! Amazing show. The lack of between song banter is definitely noticeable compared to the last tour, so far Id imagine its pretty weird and hard not having Steve there with them
The Warrington Guardian's glowing review has a particularly interesting bit:
"Months of strange battles with Pulp's management regarding photography, and which photos they were happy for the press to use slightly soured the taste of the band's music before they even took to the stage.
Pulp rescinded photography passes for all media just hours before they headlined Neighbourhood Weekender's second day, for example - so it had not put any of us in the best of moods."
Aww diddums, the press got pissed off.... I have zero sympathy for the press in this country - the can shove it up my ass.
There was someone in the sound box taking official looking photos, so I guess they will be used for something special ?
Pulp seem to be getting protected by their management if they recinded press passes. There's reasons for everything, and I'm now convinced that something HUGE is happening, hence the gaps between gigs.
I was spoilt by Leeds 2011 when I first saw them, and the sound issues that seemed to plague the stage all day were prevalent, but as soon as those captions came up on the stage screens, I was ready. The lead in to I Spy just got the mood absolutely massive. The string players added a huge extra dimension to everything.
It was an absolute masterclass, I think though because it was a festival slot a few tracks kinda went over everyone's head, stuff like Dishes and Weeds 1 & 2 (which I couldn't believe was actually happening) had a bit of a crowd lull at the back, but it was an all round die hard pleasing set. I am only a little gutted that we didn't get After You. Pink Glove was wonderful to hear though, and Like A Friend was just incredible.
It got me thinking after - it was a lot different than the last time I saw them in 2011, but it was like a new, different phase of Pulp. It's hard to explain typing down here but it was more than just a heritage act job - like maybe there's room for something more after this tour? An older, still very vital band that could put out an album that may be a little more somber than We Love Live, given Steve's passing, but incorporating the strings and nature of where they are now as a band.
Maybe I'm clutching at straws, but with Jarvis saying hopefully next time they won't take as long to come back, what he said in an interview in 2012 that if they did get back together again they'd probably have to 'make some jams'. @Scott I hope you're onto something that something huge is happening, it will be very interesting to see where the next 6 months goes.
Overall a great festival day, Bootleg Beatles were incredible - blew my socks off. As I said before there were lots of sound issues seemingly with the main stage, but we had a nice camping matt right in the middle of the field and it was absolutely lush to just put the phone away, turn the mind off and enjoy the company, vibes and music all day.
I remember the Sheffield gig after the last reunion - and I felt oh so underwhelmed by the performance, the lack of production etc. It was as if it literally was a cash in.
This time round ? Absolutely the opposite - the production of the backdrops were fantastic, the tightness in the band with the orchestra was very professional, Jarvis clearly having some vocal training, also the new Amps used with neon edging to go with Nicks new drum kit. Some money has been spent ... However all that just for a reunion?
I just can't help but feel there's alot more to come.
Bootleg Beatles were brilliant ! Gang of Youths too :)

Wasn't there no TV footage of anything last time around as they had an exclusive deal with Reading and Leeds? Could be something dull like that.

Maybe it's to do with the horrendous press coverage of Steve's funeral? Could understand why that might have turned Jarvis against photographers, they snapped him grieving and put it in an article about Peter Crouch and Abby Clancey.

Very sound theory!!
And that was disgusting what the press did. Tasteless.
The sort of photographers that pap at funerals and the kind that do the press pit at gigs are very very very different types of people - Pulp and Pulp's management would be aware of this.
So I don't think it has anything to do with the twats at the funeral - no way in a million years would these paps do a press pit, or be invited to one.

True, too. Hmm, then what other plausible theory could it be? Band-chosen insider photography/filming for a big future release project, maybe?
Bit of a delayed response on this thread, but I saw Pulp at Warrington and they were great- It was a bit emotional for me when Jarvis was talking about Steve- there was a pause when he was talking about him and I could sense the sadness, but the whole show was great, blew everyone away really who had performed during the day- i was happily surprised about them performing Weeds II and the performances of Like a friend and Sunrise in particular for me where epic, both musically and visually Im more than happy about Pulp getting back together for these shows, but something does feel different than last time- and it has nothing to do with the passing of Steve- Maybe im looking a bit too deeply into it and its simply a few shows this year and thats that- but the effort gone into these performances from the video sequences of fresh assets on the screens and back drop- the inclusion of a string section- the amount of extra musicians from Jarv Is, the amount of merch, just seems a lot if we are just going to get a few shows and nothing else- im not complaining either, but im suspicious and curious of whats next- obviously id love fresh material and with all the effort gone in, I wouldnt be surprised if something did happen, but as you all know being a Pulp fan- theres a lot of waiting and they never do what you expect them to do and in some cases want them to do- thoughts anyone?
Has someone been counting up the number of Pulp live shows they've ever put on?! Seems a strange fact (or maybe a joke as to their longevity?) to toss into a review of all the main acts at Warrington..
(From Manchester Evening News):
Finally, the moment that the huge crowd has been waiting as Pulp arrive from behind the red curtain for their 524th concert. I Spy fills the air as Jarvis Cocker and bandmates make a suitably dramatic entrance, captivating the entire stage with their theatrical spectacle
