With everyone looking for Pulp news, interviews and comments at the moment, it feels the right time to throw this out.
As some of you will know, I had the pleasure of having an in depth interview with Russell for a couple of hours back in 2015, ostensibly to promote his book.
It was a good interview. Russell was very chatty and very open.
Although I prepared for it pretty well, actually turning the thing into an article just never happened. Although I do have the full transcripts. And the first page or so of an attempted article.
So, does anyone want to take up the mantle and pull an article (or two?) together from it? It was meant to be published via God Is In The TV Zine which would, I imagine, still take a finished cut. If not, it's up for grabs.
Reply on here or send me a private message if you'd fancy giving it a go and think you could turn something around in something less than eight years.
Ta!

I write for my uni's student newspaper and have done a couple of other online magazine things, so if you're willing, I'd be more than happy to give it a go!
Got to say I'd be much more interested in reading the full transcripts than seeing bits of it turned into an article. But at this point I'll take anything!

Worth noting that Freak Out The Squares appears to be out of print. All I can find online is one "bargain" copy on Oxfam for £25 and one on eBay for £100.
So maybe we all did our bit in the end to sponsor Mr Senior's efforts as much as possible!
You can get a Kindle version for £10.99 on Amazon, although to be fair, Kindles aren't proper books.
Ah yeah, I bought both to be sure though. And a kindle version is better than nothing right? Further print runs should have happened and a paperback. And, whilst I am dreaming, an audio book with the man himself...
Zurdta and Lipglossed - do you want to PM me your email addresses?
Essentially there's two articles in all of this, I think. There's a lot of pre-fame Pulp, a lot of fame-Pulp and also a fair bit on the (then) recent reunion. I'd be happy to let you split it.
I'll prepare everything I've got and send it over to you both when you let me know how to get it to you.

As you know Sam Lipglossed is writing an article from this 2015 interview. It is going to be awesome.
I was also fortunate to get my mitts on the audio to do a full transcription. A handful of people had done this previously, in pieces, in a variety of styles, and with varying degrees of accuracy (it is hard to hear when they talk over each other and more so when the kettle is boiling and Russell is making tea!) And there was a section missing.
Fortunately I am a weirdo/perfectionist and once upon a time did this sort of thing professionally, so I have created a full conversational transcript - with just about all the halts/stutters and filler words (like/I mean/sort of/kind of/really... there you go!) - hopefully conveying enough of the nuances and idiosyncrases of Russell's way of speaking. He speaks very quickly in short, sharp bursts - his voice is very expressive - he chooses his words carefully and answers thoughtfully. As expected the conversation is both intelligent and down to earth. He also laughs. A lot. It was an absolute pleasure to do this.
All 39 pages of it.
I am also working on streamlining this into a neat Q&A style piece, as not everyone is as excited over 39 pages of Russell talking as I am. Some people will just want the facts. That's ok.
All the interesting stuff will included in Sam's article, of course - but some of you will, no doubt, be keen to read the raw data too. And the bits in between.
Massive, massive thanks to Stephen - who was so lucky to sit in Russell's kitchen and chat away the afternoon with him.
TL;DR - an article is happening soon and a transcript will follow.
I can take no credit for this, but the enthusiasm of Zurdta and Lipglossed has been fantastic. You have them to thank for it finally reaching daylight!

i didn't like it so gave it away to the library in the Raven Pub, Bath. so if it's still there and anyone round that way is desperate to check it out then fill your boots!

Hiya - just saying, sorry for delaying the Russelly goodness. I hoped to have everything done by now but there's been some stuff over the past week, like general business, slight illness, and me, my partner and flatmates having to confront and cut off a toxic friend after an increasingly poisonous situation became completely untenable. With all this, I haven't been working on the interview, but suffice to say I'm going to pick it back up and I hope to have it with you shortly.
