Just saw this!!

I'll take anything but hopefully it's not a TIH themed show, it's never been much of a favourite of mine.

Who am I kidding, they could play an hour long instrumental version of A Little Soul and i'd be delighted!

OK so in terms of the previous theory that it might be a Leadmill related reunion....is the Leadmill still being shut down next year or..?

Found this: www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/music/2022/apr/01/sheffield-music-venue-the-leadmill-at-centre-of-closure-row

Not from the UK, so forgive my ignorances about this stuff.

If this is 'legally' all he can tell us, I'm guessing a major event would figure in there somewhere... Somewhere controlling the flow of information. Hyde Park seems likely, since announcemens are staggered. Maybe bigger?

I dont know what the latest is, but if it's a question of cash and Pulp are now reactivated, I'm really surprised that the Leadmill live isn't on the cards unless the campaign goes into next year and Pulp do a warm-up show there or something.

Personally, I just don't think Pulp are suited to an open-air daylight gig. Dark and covered works best atmosphere-wise although if it's about finances, I can understand why they'd do festivals again and probably headline some and be second or third on the bill on others.

Yeah - it'd be something else to have the chance to see them in a small venue. Eyes peeled for any warm-up shows in particular. I'm sensing a few road trips on the horizon. It's been framed as an 'encore' - best savour it while we can...

Unless, of course, these gigs are supporting new music. Seems unlikely, but 16% of the cognoscenti voted that way in the poll

What would be bigger than that? The Olympic Stadium?

I suspect Glastonbury could be one, but they wont announce headliners for a while.

Didn't they do two nights at NY Radio City a decade ago? Presumably they'll get similar offers again. It's sad in some ways but nostalgia props-up the music industry and heritage acts cut through in terms of interest and excitement so much more than most of the big modern-day artists.

You'll have swathes of Latin America rabid to see them again too (remember they did their own show to nearly 20 thousand Mexicans in 2012). Probably depends on how arsed they are and band-members' health. Pulp have never overdone it with touring aside from the DC era, late 1995 to summer '96.

Arena, yes (Though Libertines had much of arena curtained out the other night). Stadium, unlikely without some good support.  Also you wouldnt really want to see a concert at Wembley Stadium.  I went once to see The Who who didnt sell out.  I got a resale ticket in front row upper tier for about £40 and the stage was so far away!  And food and drink was very expensive, so I just refilled my bottle of water.  That written it was better than seeing The Who at Hyde Park on the edge of the Golden Circle where I must have been about 300m from the stage with the sound cutting in and out with the wind.  Wasnt an issue with Pulp as there was no Golden Circle when they played.  Also Wembley is impossible to get home from.

IMHO best venue last time out was Albert Hall, though tickets there are expensive.  Brixton was manic enough in my 40s, so not sure I could do it again in my 50s.  A few nights at The Barbican like Divine Comedy in September is what I would like.  All the LPs + B sides

.. I can dream.

It'd be nice if they went worldwide. If they can't for whatever reason, I understand, I'm just happy that they'll be playing shows at all.

Maybe this is a bit materialistic of me but I hope Pulp release some snazzy merch. I've always wanted a Pulp shirt without buying a bootleg - official shirts tend to be expensive! Would love the Mis-Shapes sleeve design on a shirt. Might end up making my own 80s Pulp one by block printing (either the My Lighthouse fish, Everybody's Problem design or something from the Freaks era).

EDIT: by 'official' I mean the secondhand ones from the 90s which are usually at least $100. Typically they aren't even in great condition!

Very unexpected and exciting times.

I'd love to know the angle behind the decision this time though, given that the last reunion was based around 'if we don't do it now while we're all still here, we might not get the chance again'.

And Jarvis was making noises towards the end/shortly after that if they did do any further activity, they'd have to have some form of new music behind it to validate it, but then nothing ever came. One of the last things Nick said in that on stage discussion thing they had around the time the movie was released was 'if you love doing something, keep doing it', so I get the idea he was always pushing to do some more.

It's going to be very interesting to know the story why they're back again 10 years on. If they reveal anything that is. I find it pretty cool how they've reformed twice over 2 10 year gaps since the original 2002 split, or hiatus or whatever you want to call it.

The money they all made in 2011/12 from the last reunion is running-out now. One last round of gigging to see them through to retirement. Help The Aged!

Maybe that. Maybe the realisation that if they don't do it now, they really WILL be too old in another 10 years! Maybe doing the book has made Jarvis nostalgic for those earlier days. Or a mixture of all of these...

I really hope it's not just festivals, I can't cope with festivals. I went to Wireless last time which isn't even a proper festival and didn't cope with all the crowds and not being able to get anywhere near the stage without having a panic attack. Spent the whole show stood on my tip toes trying to see anything at all as there was no slope at all. Nice tiered seating for short people is what I like! The Royal Albert Hall was great for that, front row of seats is high enough above the standing area to give a clear view. I did brave the front row when I saw Jarv Is... in a very civilised crowd in a fairly small place that didn't push and shove, first time I've ever been that brave.

I'm surprised they feel up to this again, by "they" I really mean Candida. I thought she said she was on the edge of coping with it last time. I got the impression none of them were really into proper touring - Nick said something about travelling out to a festival for a weekend being one thing, trekking around on a tour bus being entirely another. I don't know how the whole Brexit European touring issues are going for any European festivals - there's been a lot of noise about it, I don't know what the reality of the situation is. Last time they seemed to eye up a couple of foreign trips that looked fun - they went to New York didn't they, and California? - I seem to remember they wheeled out Back in L.A. for so they must have done. And Chile? And obviously the cruise ship.

I think at this stage it's got to be greatest hits and fan favorites to make it viable. I'll eat my hat if they bring out Deep Fried in Kelvin or Inside Susan. Cor, what a thing that would be.

I still had hope about one last reunion around 2024...so this is so great and unexpected!!!

I bet they will be at most of Primavera Sound festivals franchise (Barcelona, Porto, Madrid...and if they decide to go outside Europe... Chile, Buenos Aires, Los Angeles)...due the good relantionship between band and this festival (first gig of last reunion was there)

Do you think we will have some dates on Brixton Academy or similar venue? Hyde Park was ok for me (in my opinion the weakest of all the 5 shows i saw last reunion) ...but nothing like Brixton or even Sheffield Arena.

Anyway, i'll try to be in Hyde Park or wherever they are.

Congrats everyone! aww

Anyway, just registered for Glastonbury. It'll take 3 days before I know whether my application has been accepted or not.

And then again we don't know yet if they are playing for sure. Either way, I've never been to Glastonbury before so it will be an experience.

I consider myself suitably chastened. I've got to say thought that this is the last piece of news I ever expected to hear about the band. Now I have the constant anxiety of worrying about tickets, venues etc.

I suppose I could do Glastonbury, but truth be told having spent a day at Hyde Park in 2011, I was glad to get home.  And all I had to do was get home on the Central line.  I was a little more ambitious last weekend going to Ealing Blues Festival and getting last tube home.

However, I will be out of work, and have plenty of time, but the last time I spent a night in a tent I could barely move the next day and that was about 15 years ago.  If only I knew someone with a nice comfy camper van.

Still waiting for them to approve my request to join there lol.

Are you sure you wanna post there? It's a bit of a dark and scary place sometimes, but as a digital artist you might do well in the annual Wimblewrong thread. If you can stomach it that is.

Lol!!!!! I was just gonna post on the Pulp thread but what exactly is that forum?? Lololol *gets scared* haha

What's Wimblewrong? Lol

I think it started as a Chris Morris fan forum and then expanded into commentry on other stuff such as Comedy, TV, films music etc. Can get brutal sometimes. There are also of arguments, especially when politics gets involved.

Wimblewrong is an annual Photoshop contest in which two players take turns making pictures, each taking an element from the previous poster's pic. Then forum members vote for their favourite and the winner goes through to the next round. It gets very very NSFW.

Lol!!! Pfffft.  Used to forum bitchiness. Lol. Been on sooooo many worse than that. Should see some of the band forums I've frequented over the years lol. Plus, deal with the politics nonsense on a daily basis with some family. Lol I just ignore it when they get super nasty about it. Lol

The Wimblewrong thing sounds funny lololol but not my thing. But be funny to lurk about on. Lol

So Jarvis joined Hawley on-stage at the Leadmill last night for a cover and a new/old song that they once wrote together according to the Yorkshire Post.

Cocker and Hawley performed two duets - a cover of The Velvet Underground's White Light/White Heat and a new Leadmill-inspired song called A Sunset. It is inspired by the original venue logo which features a sun set and pays homage to past good times at the venue.

The song was created by the pair years ago but has never been performed publicly before.

If Pulp's reunion was already in full-swing, you imagine they might have played here. Apparently Jarvis said it was his first time performing on that stage since 1993 (the Lipgloss tour, I'm guessing. He probably had to Pulpwiki it himself!).

Does anyone know if Rebecca Taylor (Self Esteem) is a Pulp fan? Hawley had her onstage the night before.

I'd be very surprised if she wasn't. Nick Banks is a fan and is very supportive, reposting a lot about her on his twitter stream.

Any rumours on dates yet? Trying to keep 2023 as free as I can, but a couple of gigs booked in March along with two trips to Dublin in January and Paris in October.

Seen 5 of the 9 days of BST Hyde Park have been set for P!nk(2), Billy Joel(1) and Springsteen(2).

Leaves Fri 23 Jun (Glastonbury weekend), Fri 30 Jun, Sat 1 Jul & Sun 2 Jul if Pulp play this.

More about speculating when it might happen wink

After my last trip to Hyde Park in 2015, cant say it would be my choice. Then again neither would Finsbury Park after seeing Stone Roses there in 2013.   Suspect it will be a London park; personally I would prefer Victoria Park.

biggrin  Actually, Hyde Park would be best as I wouldnt have to change train.  Bit of a walk from Victoria Park to get to Stratford.

No Steve Mackey

https://www.theguardian.com/music/2022/oct/28/pulp-confirm-reunion-shows-for-2023

The Sheffield band which, for these dates, consists of Cocker, Candida Doyle, Nick Banks and Mark Webber

This article was amended on 28 October 2022. Steve Mackey is not playing on this Pulp tour, as previously stated; Mark Webber is.

Wet Leg down as support at Finsbury Park.  Which is kind of apt given my last experience of a gig at Finsbury Park

Jarv Is is the new stuff.  And there has been a fair amount of it.  That written, there is also a fair amount of post Hardcore material that could be released and even remixed/remastered into a new LP.  After all, who saw After You coming?  Though I must admit, I was surprised that was end of the second coming.

Bridlington is £62.50 plus booking fee.

Pulp's promoters have clearly pitched them as an upper tier legacy act. These seem a bit high for me, thought I could try 3 or 4 dates and whack it all on the credit card but might have to reduce the number now.

I would have thought that their own shows without an all-day outdoor support list, would be closer to £50. Not saying they don't deliver value as Pulp live are obviously great but Jarv Is...gigs are half the price and you still get She's A Lady or His'n'Hers!

They have an alarming name but Wet Leg are a neat fit with Pulp I think. Anyone who hasnt heard them, give Wet Dream or Chaise Longue a go. The other obvious current big (and great) act to pair with them is Self Esteem - she sang with Hawley at a Leadmill fundraiser and Nick is often bigging her up on Twitter.

I am looking forward to seeing Wet Leg.  Was going to get a ticket to see them in their own right, however they are playing in  Kentish Town on 24 Nov, which seems to be the most popular gig date of the year for acts I like. Had already opted for Hugh Cornwell in Islington with Fontaines DC and Squeeze missing out.

Saw Wet Leg support The Strokes at Lytham Festival last July.

They've been hyped to the hilt. Very catchy, simple songs, quite repetitive but easy to get into at a festival. Much more effective than on record/streaming when a whole album of it gets a bit silly.

I've seen a couple of interviews and they're either incredibly shy and charming (especially Hester) or very rude and immature...or both! They do that thing that teenage girls sometimes do of looking into each others eyes when being talked-to as if they're embarrassed and just want to whisper to each other about the person speaking to them. Kinda charming at 14, a little more odd when in their late 20s.

But I think they've been friends since they were kids and are treating their whole success with a healthy does of absurdity.

It narrows the window in June for non-UK festivals. Primavera in Barcelona must be a strong contender, they always enjoy it there.

Same here, so frustrating as due to back problems I prefer to get seating where I can and there were several front row seats available when I checked this morning. Will have to try our luck in the general pre-sales tomorrow.

Jarv is on Lauren Laverne's show on 6Music tomorrow AM.

Which will already equal the amount of press Pulp did in 2011/12!

Maybe they're worried they need to push these shows a bit in case they sell slowly. Or he's just being nice to a radio mate who has asked him on to chat about it.

I feel like I need to try to by a ticket for Finsbury Park or risk them not coming to the States. Such a big distance ...... but I cannot miss this.

So true story - I was stuck in the hospital when they'd played at Radio City 2012. Perfect venue! But I was stuck somewhere else - but I'm all better now!
