Can anyone who has the Ultimate Live DVD (never bothered to get it myself) answer a question for me?

I'm guessing the picture is in modern 16:9 format, as opposed to the 4:3 (ie, old TV screen shaped) format the VHS releases were in.

My question is, how has this been done? Is the picture squashed to fit, or have they kept it in the same ratio as the originals but chopped the top and bottom off?

In other words, is there any picture content that's on the VHS releases but not the DVD?

It's 4:3 if I remember rightly... which is a shame because some of the F.E.E.L.I.N.G.C.A.L.L.E.D.L.I.V.E. video is in widescreen so would have transferred to a 16:9 DVD quite nicely! The DVD version of that has black bars as part of the picture, just like the VHS did.

The Brixton academy concert on the dvd is also slightly slower than the VHS version and it is very noticeable

Yeah, I'm aware of the speed issues - probably why I never bought the thing. But that's good news that there's nothing chopped off.

I've alway thought FEELINGCALLEDLIVE (can't be bothered with the dots) would lend itself well to a properly sorted out DVD release. The original tape was always a bit of an investment to watch all the way through - it'd be cool if you had the option to just watch the concert uninterrupted, or just the tour films, or the original full length feature if you wanted. Plus the usual DVD options of individual songs etc.

So what I'm thinking is you could use Ultimate Live as a starting point, sort out the speed and the ratios, then re-author the whole thing with some nice menus and suchlike.

One for the "one of these days" list! Unless anyone else fancies a crack...

I never noticed slowdown on Brixton concert on dvd, but i have ukrainian edition, but i'm pretty sure that there is no difference from european version. Anyway the speed from dvd never bothered me, or i'm deaf, or just watched brixton vhs for a long time ago and dont remember how it should sound

It's easy to notice, particularly when Jarvis talks between the songs
