I'm talking about this one for those who may not have seen it. I remember a discussion on one of the Pulp mailing lists about 20 years ago about who the people were on the cover and it was established that it was Russell and Jarvis. However, I was just wondering when this photo was taken. The mid-80s Jarvis, judging by the photos available elsewhere, had shorter hair but it seems longer here so I'm thinking that the photo was actually taken in the 90s. Anyone?

It's credited to Andy Gray so presumably it's an outtake from the Freaks session. There are some others in the 2012 reissue booklet with a similar fairground-mirror effect.

Fair point about Jarvis' hair though. Possibly a trick of the lighting or the aforementioned distortion?

Ah, I didn't think to check there. There's also that small photo on the back of "Masters of the Universe" which is clearly the "Freaks" lineup so that's probably where the front photo came from as well.

As for the person on the right, this exact same discussion took place on one of the mailing lists (most likely Lipgloss) years ago and I'm sure if I remember rightly, that someone checked with Alex from Pulp People who confirmed that it was Jarvis on the right

That's definitely Candida innit? If it was Jarvis, wouldn't he have his glasses on? Or am i looking at a different picture?

Looking at the rest of the set it could well be Candida. The chin does look more Jarvlike but, again, distortion/angles.

Alex doesn't necessarily know any more than the rest of us here...

The warped image is kind of fitting in my case. My friend, who is a vinyl junkie, bought this record for me when I was in my teens (only because he thought Silence was on it and knew how much I hated it) but in an act of youthful inconsideration, I left it in the back of the car for a few weeks where it warped in the sun and visions(d) dwindle one by one by one...

True, and I am going off a discussion from 20 years ago so I'm now doubtful as to whether Alex actually confirmed it as Jarvis or Candida. Especially bearing in mind this photo:

Candida's hair on this one would certainly suggest that it's her on the "Masters of the Universe" cover.

Hilarious - although I'd never have thought it was anyone other than Candida, having read the posts and viewed the image intermittently my brain's done this whole magic eye / gestalt thing... I can see why some see Jarvis, in his kind of Razzamatazz get-up. In a wig, obviously. It's like that gold/black dress thing all over again.
