Radcliffe mentioned an EP with this track will be out later this month but I can't find any details of it. Presumably it's all tracks from the TV series, hope it's more than spoken word and instrumentals but I do like this first one.
New - yes; Exciting - mmmm, not really. I suppose my expectations are too high. Not so sure about Radiohead nor Stone Roses either. If only all comebacks were as good as Bowie's. Well without the dying part, obviously.
I think I could grow to love this track. Pure L'homme a Tete de Chou, perhaps filtered though a Portisheady, Hardcorey filter. I could happily listen to more of the same.
If only all comebacks were as good as Bowie's. Well without the dying part, obviously.
<sigh> Still missing you Davey J
Blackstar is such a good record that I haven't. As he all but disappeared from the public eye and was never going to play live, I had somewhat forgotten about him until The Next Day. Oddly he is more alive now artistically. Only problem is there is unlikely to be anything new unless he has stockpiled some albums which I wouldn't put past him.

The frustrating thing is, I know that Pulp have a Blackstar in them, if only they could get together and keep the momentum up, rather than second guessing themselves/
I like this new Jarvis track but it ultimately feels inconsequential. It feels like he's done some vocals for someone else's song, as he's done many times in the past.
Its ok. I kind of dig it when the backing vocals come in.
Not hearing the similarities to TIH though? Sounds more like We Love Life era stuff to these ears... a bit of Weeds II, a bit of My Body May Die, a bit of Forever in my Dreams.

OMG I just realised it sounds like "Mad Man in a Box" by Murray Gold
Hilarious!!! Is MMIAB, more like. You can imagine him enthusiastically humming the tune for days, thinking he'd really nailed it this time, then getting a sinking feeling when seeing a repeat on BBC3 - realizing he'd been paraphrasing all along.
He'd make a amazing Doctor. Actually, he'd break TV if he ever got the role.
Unless he's been already lined up as Capaldi's replacement and this is a cheeky coded message... Or a "come and get me" message / you should have come and got me message (the moment has probably passed, he'd risk being too much of a Smith-Tennant hybrid (to stick to the proper terminology)

I'm not sure what Pulp would do if they ever got back into a studio. It's about 15 years since they recorded anything of any consequence (I exclude Miner's Strike and After You as they were one offs). I'd like to think they could make an album that would stand alongside anything from Separation onwards, but I fear it would be more of a curate's egg like a Jarvis album. There has to be a Pulp/Jarvis/Relaxed Muscle album sometime this decade though there are only about three years left to do it.
Http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b079cp2k - iPlayer link It's about 55 minutes in. Can't be more specific, as BBC seem to trim the shows to more "the actual show" times, after a day or so.. I've made that mistake before!!

Many thanx :)
I'm unimpressed, but Jarvis still got it sound wise. RELEASE ANOTHER SOLO RECORD YOU LAZY BASTARD

I'm not that impressed with the new track. It's kinda okay, I suppose, but it doesn't usher in any new developments and fails to shock or excite in the way a new Pulp release used to back in the day. The whole John Barry / 60's soundtrack style is growing wearily predictable for him and some of the lyrics border on self-parody. It's also very disappointing that he so little faith in his singing ability these days that what little melody the track does contain has to be carried solely by the backing vocalists. That this is the best he can muster after seven years doesn't bode at all well... Anyone have any idea who produced this?

Does anyone have the mp3s? I bought the 7" on Friday and it very annoyingly didn't come with a download code. I've pestered Rough Trade on Twitter about it but they refuse to reply. Thanks folks.
7" vinyl's seemingly all gone - only MP3 is an option now on Rough Trade's site. (GRRRR)
Why the fuck is this a "limited" edition? Bugs the hell out of me that hoarders and speculators get hold of this and then look to sell it for £35-£40 on eBay. I thought the point of releasing records was so people could buy them and listen to them not to make profits for others. This and Record Store Day is why the music business is in the shit. Records are just for train spotters these days. I'll just listen to it on Spotify.
I got mine from iTunes, but only the lead song that was on the radio was available last Friday, the other 3 will appear this coming Friday, which is the release date that was given in the press. I have to say I am a luddite about audio stuff and find digital music so much more convenient that I much prefer it. I don't have a record player any more, so records pass me by now. Argee is right that they do seem to be aimed at the hipster market.
