Just thought I'd let you know I saw Nick play drums with local ukulele group the Everley Pregnant Brothers last night. (Richard Hawley also plays with them occasionally too) It seems he's pretty much a full time member of the band now as previously he's only guested on a couple of tracks. He played brilliantly and had a drum setup just like Magnus Doyle used to have in the mid 80's, he even played the whole gig standing up. He also seemed incredibly happy to be there and to be playing with them.
It's interesting that of all the members, its only Jarvis and Nick/Steve at times, that feel a compulsion to keep playing music when Pulp are inactive. Maybe it's a mark of respect for their own group. The total disinterest/ambivalence of Russell and Mark to picking up a guitar is quite amusing though. In Candida's case, I guess she might feel more of an urge if it wasn't for the arthritis in her hands.
I think out of all of them it's Nick who just enjoys playing music the most. It was at the Film Q & A that he would have gone out on tour again tomorrow ('If something feels good, keep doing it' as he said). Jarvis doesn't actually need music I don't think as he has other creative and artistic outlets but Nick seems like he was just born to pound away on those skins.
He also plays with another Sheff group called "Bigshambles" I don't know if you were aware of them? They are playing this coming Sat (19th) at the West street live venue as part of Bowiefest..
