Help fund Jarvis Cocker's documentary on Moondog

I got this email earlier this week. Moondog is a fantastic character and I was already a fan, so it looks like a project I'll try to support, but they are still way off their goal. Take a look and see if you can too -

For the past two years Holly Elson has been researching and shooting interviews for a feature-length documentary entitled The Viking of 6th Avenue. The film will tell the colorful story of legendary blind musician Moondogand uncover the motivations of a man determined not only to create original music but to live a truly original life. The Viking of 6th Avenue will contain a wealth of never before seen archival film/photos, home movies and rare audio recordings, as well as unique interviews with Moondogs friends, family, collaborators and musicians who cite him as an influence including Jarvis CockerJohn ZornDebbie Harry, Damon AlbarnPhilip Glass and many more. In hopes of completing the film within the year, the filmmakers have launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds.

We've posted a video today of Jarvis talking about why the film is important, and why Moondog's music is "wonderful, exciting and invigorating" to him:  https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2131638328/the-viking-of-6th-avenue/posts/863718. We hope Pulp Songs will consider sharing the link. With your assistance we will be able to reach a wide audience about the film and fundraising campaign.

Here is the main link to our Kickstarter campaign with some more info about the film and a full trailer: http://kck.st/1puWucw

The Kickstarter campaign will end on June 26. We hope you will consider supporting the film, financially or just by spreading the word:
  • Twitter: Tweet about our campaign. Our handle is @MoondogMovie.
  • Newsletter: Include info about our film and Kickstarter campaign with a link in an upcoming newsletter.
  • Facebook: Write a status update about the campaign and "Like" the film's Page - www.facebook.com/TheVikingof6thAvenue.
  • Coverage: Help connect us with bloggers, writers and journalists who might also want to help us share a film about Moondog's story.
  • Emails: Send emails to your friends and colleagues, encouraging them to help raise awareness about this project.
We're very excited to be producing The Viking of 6th Avenue and educating a wider audience about Moondog and his music. We were very fortunate to be featured in the New York Times for our Kickstarter launch, but we still have a long way to go. With recently discovered photographs and unpublished Moondog scores still in their original Braille formwe hope you'll be able to help us bring this new material out into the world.

Yeah I heard about this when Giles put it up on Twitter so they must have contacted him too. I think I'll make a donation but unfortunately I don't think it'll make much difference to the total.
