God, yes, how shocking. Couldn't believe it when someone told me at work.
Not surprised to hear of Candida's crush - Rik Mayall was v good-looking, as well as hilarious.
Yes, gorgeous. Lovely facial structure! Good bones, as they say. And he had a wicked sparkle that we ladies love. And what a grin. Gosh, he'll be missed.
He was very good at snorting like a pig after laughing, wasn't he? Hysterical!
A face born to act the clown with and make people laugh. Impressive head of hair as he got older too. His resourcefulness in finding ever more ways to beat seven lumps out of Ade Edmondson and their tragic quests for sex in Hammersmith in Bottom would have been awful in the hands of other actors and comics but with them it was just awfully funny. Rick the people's poet will live on.
By the sounds of things he really learned to appreciate life after his near-death experience in 1998 so it would be sad if there is any suspicious and avoidable factor to his death.
Rik was one of the funniest people I've ever seen. I grew up watching his work - Rik Mayall Presents is one of my earliest TV memories - and just looking at him or hearing his name made me smile. Truly gutted.
This is extremely poignant now:
RIP.

Really sad news, this. I was absolutely devastated when I heard. He was a real one off, never seemed to have lost that mad energy even into his forties and fifties. He'll be dearly missed.

I'm not a person that cries much but I have to admit, I really did when I heard about Rik.
Anyway, some fans have set up a just giving account to raise money for Headway (because of Rik's accident and recovery). A good idea, I thought. i found it through the Blackadder Facebook page and donated.
It is all a bit shocking, reminds you that anything can happen at any time, like with Tim McCall, or Michael Schumacher. The quote about him realising how glad he was to be alive after his accident is something I've heard other people say who have had similar, near-miss experiences. It makes you grateful for what you have.
My nearest pub is the Kebab and Calculator, it used to have a plaque up to that effect before it was tarted up, reminds me of the Young Ones every time I go past. I get reminded of Monty Python every day too when I cycle past East Shrubbery and West Shrubbery. I found that when I have lost relatives, all sorts of things remind you of them all the time. I had an uncle who lived in Dubai who died suddenly and every time the horse racing results came on Radio 5 it was Sheikh Maktoum's horses. It must be really difficult if your relative is someone in the public eye, like Rik, even if people are being nice, you can't avoid having constant reminders of your pain.
