I wondered whether anyone on here knows exactly the timings of the Q&A and after-show party on Saturday? I ask because it might be nice to find a time slot after the Q&A for any Bar Italia folk who feel like it to congregate and say hi to each other, perhaps at a local pub?

Several of us have a rough plan to have a beer or two, anyway, but have no idea where is good? Are there any Sheffield bods on here who could give us a suggestion? Ta.

The Docfest schedule says the duration is 126 minutes:

http://sheffdocfest.com/schedules

The details for the film itself says 91 minutes, so I assume that maybe the film is 91 minutes and the whole event including the Q&A is 126. It also says 90 mins on IMDB.

Just to add even more timing variety, the DVD run time for the film is listed as 89 minutes! :)

Half an hour is a bit short for a Q&A with band, director and Radcliffes tendency to waffle and trying to be funny.

I would like to meet people here from this forum. That's the main reason why I wanted to come, because it's such a big chance to see each other. But I have no idea where to meet and when. Before the movie? After the movie? Who will not be on this aftershow-party and have an interest for a drink in a pub?
Shall we wear roses in the button hole because when we all wear our Jarvisknickers, they re hard to see.
Any ideas?
Oh please!!!!!!!!!!!!

I rang to try and find out what time the event ends, bearing in mind there's supposedly some "surprises" and I've a train to catch. I was told to ring back at the end of the week.

The only thing I know is that we have to pick our tickets up from a hotel between half 3 and half 4. It's all very secretive.

So long as it's a white rose! My Yorkshire rose is in full flower at the moment, though whether the flowers would survive the trip from when I leave on Friday lunchtime is another matter.

Or we could make ourselves Bar Italia badges (from http://www.pulpwiki.net/Pulp/BarItalia, modified with my genius graphic design skills?).

bar-italia.jpg

I agree Maidmarian, I am looking forward to seeing people too, it depends a bit on everyone's schedules. I am intending to arrive some time Friday early evening, but am probably seeing family that evening, though I haven't confirmed a time with them yet, could be any time during the weekend. Do I remember right, you are coming in from Manchester? Cue "What's the only good thing to come out of Lancashire?" jokes (I believe Lancastrians have an entirely similar joke).

Well, my train gets into Sheffield at 1737 on Saturday, and I need to be back out on the 2023. Not averse to hanging out with people, but looks like time might be a bit tight. God knows how I'll get my tickets...

Yes for goodness sake Maidmarian, try to avoid wearing red roses in Yorkshire! ;) regarding something we can recognise each other by, I'm assuming most of us have a Pulp badge of some sort? Think I've got 6.

I have no Pulp badge. There aren't any in Germany. As Maidmarian I thought about a bow and an arrow. But what will the people say, who sit behind me?

Here's the rose.

Surely maidmarian is more Richard I? I can't believe they're even thinking about not re-burying Richard III in York Minster.

Let's not get into a political discussion here but I have no burning fire to see the remains of Richard III buried in York. A) he was born near Northampton (much closer to Leicester) and B) Surely he would be pretty horrified to be buried anywhere that is Protestant anyway!

Are we talking before the screening here? I will be in Town from about 15:00 hours 'cos I have to collect my ticket. It would be easy to meet in Barkers Pool, outside the City Hall by the War Memorial then walk down Division Street to the Washington or stay around Barkers Pool. Walking to the Washington we would pass the spot where Jarvis fell out of the window that fateful night.

I just heard, that they've found his body on a parking place which I knew.
But enough of that (although, I think, it's a really cool story).

Fran, your roses are beautiful. I have a friend and she has a big rosegarden with a lot of English roses. She would love yours too.

So saw119, I'm in town the whole day. When do you collect your tickets and when would you be in Barkers Pool?

I'm planning on picking my ticket up early, they're on offer from 15:30, and I won't have time to go back home so I'll deffo be in town for the duration.

maidarian if you want to meet at Barkers Pool at 15:00 (there's a big war memorial in the centre that simply can't be missed) that's fine by me or you can wait until I've picked up my ticket. My name's Stephen by the way, makes it a bit easier

What sort of sights were you think of taking in? I'd like to see the childs toy horse ride that played such a ridiculously tragic tune but it looks like quite a trek to Forge Dam from the centre.

I get the feeling after that Q and A that they'll all end up on Jarvis's solo work. They'd obviously probably even be doing more gigs if it wasn't for Candida's understandable reticence.

It was very surreal when I arrived at the cinema and the women's choir was singing. I thought I was in the wrong screen. I wish I'd known the film itself started at 6pm, could have had a beer in the pub outside.
As for the film, I liked the concert footage, the bits with the band and tour manager and even the Help The Aged rendition in the cafe. But the rest just left me cold. I guess I wasn't expecting a Sheffield homage.
I had to leave before the q&a - was there anything of note?

It wouldn't necessarily be Pulp. It depends if they were to have an input in the writing. Weren't most of them on his first solo album in some form or other?

As I remarked after the film had finished 'Only Pulp could be have a film made about them where by the end you know absolutely nothing about the band that you didn't know before'.

It wouldn't necessarily be Pulp. It depends if they were to have an input in the writing. Weren't most of them on his first solo album in some form or other?

Exactly what I was thinking. I know this would probably never happen, but it would be nice if the Pulp members started writing together again, without the pressure of it being a new Pulp record, or even having to tour it. To do a new album under another name would be nice.

I enjoyed the film, Jarvis is a naturally amusing character which we all know all to well..How many artists could make something as mundane as changing a tyre or feeding the ducks tragically funny? Anyways, not entirely sure if there was any point in including Pulp as a musical entity as part of this Sheffield homage. Not sure if i want to watch it again either..

I thought it was excellent. I wish we could have the full gig footage as well though.

Just remembered my quote of the night:

I mainly learnt that Nick has amazing dance skills.

And that he's probably available for Weddings and other social occasions but I wouldn't book him to DJ at my party!

Nick's djing was excellent - first time I've heard jilted john on the dancefloor (though given that I am 19 that's not so surprising).

Loved the film, and the extras at the premier like the neon sign and choir outside.

Oh I wish I could have made it to the after party! I had to be elsewhere as soon as the film finished (caught maybe 10 mins of the Q&A). I gave my wristband to John Quinn, ex Sheffield Star music writer, so that was my good deed for the night.

Thought the film was fairly entertaining, quite idiosyncratic but an elegant solution to the band not wanting to so a 'normal' concert/documentary film. Really interesting (and sad) to hear about Candida 's struggles with arthritis. In fact all of the band had their moment to shine - Nick's bit about the football team was great (as was his bit in the Q&A about the rear view of Jarvis). And Mark too - "Is Jarvis a common person? I think he has the... potential to be".

Wasn't keen on the choir in afraid, and some of the other vox pop stuff was maybe a bit overdone - a bit of more ruthless editing would have tightened it up in places in my opinion. Loved Help the Aged in the cafe though!

Nice to briefly meet Pip beforehand. Oh and Magnus Doyle was sat a couple of rows behind me.

I reckon there was plenty of other material that could have been used.  There wasn't too much with Mark nor Steve, and it wasn't as if Candida nor Nick were overexposed.   I thought the issue of their relationship with Sheffield was the story, especially making up for The Day That Never Happened and it would have been better explored from their perspective.

But Help The Aged in the cafe was a highlight!  Loved the way it was played out.  The bloke in the corner looked like he was in fear from the old girls fancying a bit of older rough.

Did this film remind anyone of "No Sleep..."

It did me a bit.

I think that's a very interesting observation Sarah. The only main difference is in the director. Florian clearly ascribes to auteur theory so it had a strong directorial voice unlike No Sleep.
