Pretty sure they didn't film the whole concert, so there's no chance of a full concert release. I believe disc 2 will feature more of the 'talking heads' and a few that didn't make it to the final cut... here's hoping a few more of the other fans they interviewed outside the arena will be immortalized too :)
Cant really imagine what could be on the second disc. Don't really know how much appetite there could be for lots more Sheffield vox pops. It was quite wonderfully self contained actually. Before I saw the film I was excited for the 2 discs but now I think just the film on a shiny disc would be perfect.
Yeah I hope so too :) In the interview that Florian did with Graham Walker of the Sheffield Star, he says that they are going to put more concert footage on the extras DVD/Blu Ray and that Jarvis wants the full thing released on a special DVD. :)
The audio for that is on a thread that Eamonn started on here if you fancy a listen.
It would be great to have the concert from start to finish. I'd love all the home movie stuff they showed whilst people were arriving, too, (it was very poignant), and the laser show. In fact, I'd like to relive the whole evening...

Why do you think they didn't film the whole concert? Presumably if they were making a feature film they'd want the entire footage so they had a good selection to choose from for the film, regardless as to whether or not they intended to release the whole thing. Like, surely they'd never have all the cameras set up etc yet decide to only film 20 minutes of it, and just hope they got enough shots to use for the film.
Also, in the film there were clips from songs during all parts of the set (ie. Underwear, which was the third song, to Sheffield: Sex City which was during the encore, and loads of songs in between), which suggests they did record the whole thing.

Well it's only speculation, but...
In order to film a full 2+ hour concert and edit it to a professional standard they would require several cameras and a lot of equipment/man-power, in order to allow a faster pace of editing. However, from viewing the film at the weekend I got the impression that this simply wasn't the case. There was a lot of uninterrupted single camera shots which lingered for several seconds at a time, such as someone's camera phone filming the stage, and Jarvis on the speakers during TIH. It may have been artistic choice, but it gave me the impression that they didn't have all that many cameras, and were just filming wherever and whenever possible, and there's an awful lot you can achieve with disparate footage in an edit suite. As you say, there was footage during Underwear and Sheffield: Sex City, but this doesn't necessarily follow that the whole show was recorded - they could have just chosen key songs.
Of course I could be wrong, but only Florian and co will know for sure exactly how much raw footage there is.

Most important question is: is the DVD playable in multiple regions/are blu rays region coded. I want to preorder it but not if I won't even be able to play it because it's UK region.
God bless America etc etc. any other Americans on here asked about this yet? I guess I could find out from the vendor

They had 2 cameras on stage and 2 in between the stage and barrier, they also had something in the central control thing And from watching the film I'd say they had some on the seating areas.

Have you ever investigated the possibility of hacking your DVD player? I once wanted a La Femme Nikita box set that was only in region 1, and bit of internet research revealed a hack for the firmware of my model to make it multi-region, just by going through the menus in a non-obvious way. I assumed then that the manufacturers don't want to be making physically different machines for each region, so they just hide this setting away from the users.

Yeah, I agree that there weren't many cameras- there seemed to be three maybe- one in the crowd and two on the stage. Despite this set up, I'm absolutely certain that they would have filmed the entire concert, even if they never intended to release the whole thing. It just won't look like BBC Glastonbury footage etc.

It'd be rubbish if there's no US version released, I'm sure someone on here will upload an HD torrent of it for you though.
Oh no I do still want to see it in theaters absolutely!! I'm hoping there will be a Los Angeles showing since that's only an hour drive and it'd be worth it. But I'm moving to the other side of the country for a masters program in August and I don't know if a city as small as Pittsburgh will have a showing so I'm hoping if LA has one (which seems likely) that it's before I move. If not I'll have to miss out but I'd really like to see it in theaters

Its super easy to hack the 'cheaper' dvd players. Ive done it many times in order to play many dvds purchase in the UK.

I think it's almost certain to get a US region release at some point given the relative success of their US tour combined with the fact that it actually premiered in Austin and it seems it will probably be playing at some cities around here. Thinking now they really SHOULD do a premiere in Pittsburgh since I think it's the American city most analogous to Sheffield (industrial, working class, somewhat eccentric pockets of locals, river city, steel city, etc). Sheffield reminded me a lot of Pittsburgh when I was there. Unfortunately I don't think there's a huge demand for it there. But I digress......point is I don't THINK it would come to a need for us Americans to torrent it because I'm remaining hopeful and optimistic that there will be an American DVD release.

My thoughts exactly.
If they don't bother to release the dvd in other territories then why would it make any difference? They're not planning on making any sales in those areas, therefore they're not losing money if anyone from those territories torrents it. I always think if it's not commercially available then it's fair enough- certainly more practical than hacking a dvd player.
To torrent it you'd have to do it here wouldn't you if the DVD's only available here. You're trying to make it sound like it's only people in the us that will use it which isn't true.
Florian, Alex and the other people involved in making this film don't deserve ripping off just because the us distributors can't be arsed. That is, unless they can be arsed, which you have no idea about at the minute anyway. The decision isn't down to the filmmakers or Pulp you know. It's not about whether Pistachio can be bothered.
Love Story wasn't available here when I wanted to watch it, but Florian gave us the code to watch it for free, because he's a nice person. I'm sure if anyone wanted to watch it but can't for a genuine reason, he would help you.

Torrenting is just peer to peer sharing. It wouldn't have to be listed on Pirate Bay or something! I think you're somewhat overreacting, especially as I was simply talking about a British person on this forum helping out an American person on this forum, not some kind of free-for-all as soon as we get hold of the dvd. It's perfectly reasonable to share something for free when it's not commercially available in your country. For example, Pulp B sides have been shared on here over the years which have been commercially available in Japan, but not in this country.
Obviously the decision isn't down to Pulp, I never claimed it was?? If the dvd isn't released in the US it's because no distributor picks it up or whatever. Ultimately people from overseas territories can jump through hoops and hack dvd players or order overpriced imports or whatever out of some sense of loyalty if they really want to, but the fact of the matter is that someone is gonna end up torrenting it/putting it on youtube/various other streaming sites etc, all of which are more sensible options if you literally cannot buy the dvd in your country. I'm a huge Alexander Payne fan but I don't feel guilty about torrenting Citizen Ruth, because there was no other way for me to watch it in the UK.
I can absolutely guarantee that no-one involved with this film is going to care how you get hold of the film if it's not commercially available in your country. Hopefully the dvd will become available in most territories eventually- if you've downloaded the film and it then becomes available to buy, just buy the dvd. But don't punish yourself by waiting months for a US release/paying stupid money for an unwatchable import, all in order to get some imagined pat on the back from the band.
Stealing films/songs etc isn't cool, and isn't something I ever do. However, the great thing about the internet is that you can get hold of stuff that you'd otherwise never be able to see/hear. I've downloaded loads of albums which have never been available to purchase in my country, downloaded out of print books and magazines, films which have never been released on DVD, even video games which were US or Japan-only releases. And often that kind of internet interest can actually force companies to release products in otherwise ignored territories.
Anyway, hopefully this is all irrelevant as the dvd may yet get released in the US.

I still can't believe in 2014 that we still have region locking on stuff anyway, it makes me so angry.
Remember, if you have a mac with a disk drive it can change the region settings up to 10 times. Which gives you a chance to rip the dvd to your hard drive.

I never understood what anyone stood to gain from regionalising DVDs? Are our European films so ideologically unsound they will corrupt the youth of North America into un-American activities? All it does is stop them selling a few copies of their product they might otherwise have made a bit more money from. I suppose there will be some peculiar reason to do with marketing that is beyond my comprehension.
I only suggested hacking the DVD player because to me, that was a very easy solution to the problem and I have never really understood the concept of torrents very well. On the few occasions I have tried to download them, it has seemed a very opaque process and taken me ages and numerous attempts. I wouldn't have a clue how to rip a DVD or upload it to one for someone else. It wasn't meant as any kind of implied moral judgment on them though. I agree it is totally frustrating when you can't find any way to purchase a product even when you're quite willing to throw money at people for it.

Perhaps I did overreact y'know. It's not a moral issue for me, I don't give a shit normally. I just care about about the film, I care about some of the people involved in making the film. It'll be a travesty if the US (and elsewhere) distributors don't release it.
Hi all, the disc 2 will include 4 full concert tracks,
I Spy
Mis-shapes
Sheffield: Sex City
Help the Aged
Also included are extended interviews with people and the band and a behind the scenes part.
Weej, are you sure there is going to be one? In that case I would like to inform my friends there. All of us thought Shanghai would be the only place to see this film and I've been waiting for you here to ask if you were coming. I've got my tickets for both screenings in Shanghai, and I'm so excitedï¼

Sorry- my reply was probably a bit too argumentative. We all care about the film and want it to do well, I just really sympathise with Pulp fans from outside of Britain who find it difficult to get hold of stuff sometimes- I just believe that they should never have to pay more/have more difficulty in acquiring stuff than UK fans do. The bizarre thing is that despite Pulp's massive mainstream popularity in the UK, a cult British band like Belle & Sebastian (as an arbitrary example as I know a lot about them) are probably more accessible to US audiences than Pulp, maybe cos they are more part of the 'indie' world (whereas Pulp are part of the Pulp world and nothing else).

Oh yeah? Interesting choice of tracks. Didn't Help The Aged ''break down'' (before a heroic recovery)?!
A pity they won't bung on the video to Death Came To Sheffield.
A group of us had to sing Something Changed on a tram about 12 times, during filming. We got told off by the conductor and I couldn't listen to SC again for about a fortnight. the good news is that if Saskia's singing it on the DVD it means they're not putting that on!
Just had a look on amazon and their listing for the film says it's region free.
That's a relief since I don't actually have a DVD player so much as a laptop and a playstation that both play them (no clue how to "hack" either of those)
what I STILL want to know is if it's going to air in Los Angeles theaters before August 2nd or if I'm never going to get to see it in theaters (which I'd really like to do)

It seems to be just called "Pulp Special Edition" which would explain why I couldn't find "Life, Death and Supermarkets" when I looked before - I ended up ordering mine from Soda Pictures because of that, which was more expensive than this.

Had a look for Region 4 and Australia - we get the 1 disc DVD on Available Wednesday, 10 September 2014.
Think I can play OS DVDs so will still order the Soda DVD.
If anyone is interested.
I would think that this being such a 'large in demand' movie (sarcasm), that film distributors would not be running prints in various formats per region. It doesn't seem to me to make financial sense. I would think that the DVD will be region free, therefore available to all markets (once those markets get their release date) Distributors in the US, or Australia will state its not playable in their region for sales reasons. Or at least I hope, as I have ordered my copy already.
I like your thinking VoxPop. I just want the second disc!
PS. Peter O'Donoghue the editor and co-writer I keep seeing him in Sydney around where I live. I saw him a week or so ago coming out of the movies as I was going in and saw him on the train. If I see him again I'm going to have a chat!
what is the consensus, it is region free right? can another american confirm if they've bought it already? I'm saving money right now to move, but I'm planning on buying it once I've finished moving

I have just come across this article that seems pretty convincing that the DVD and Blu-ray are region 2, however you can download the film digitally via iTunes (there's a link in the article) if that's a problem - is that any good for you non-Europeans?
4 songs - I Spy, Mis-Shapes, Help the Aged and Sheffield Sex City. I Spy is cut with an interview with Liam moaning that Jarvis can't be persuaded to use a radio mic, so he has to untangle it all the time.
Saskia singing Something Changed
Interviews with each of the band separately.
A "making of" video with Florian, Jarvis and Alex Boden.
Extra bits of interviews from various people who are in the film.

I was wrong. They are not region free. The BlueRay is Region locked and the extras DVD is region 2.
yes, i emailed soda pictures and they replied: "Our DVD is a Region 2 PAL version so would only play in European or Multi-Region DVD players. Oscilloscope are releasing the film in the US and will have a US DVD out later this year."

Last night I danced around to Sheffield: Sex City - that keyboard intro gets me every time. 2nd Disc is quality and well worth hacking your DVD player!
The Australian version of the DVD came out last week but picked it up today. Has all the extras on it from the UK edition but just all on the 1 Disc. And only $19.95 too!
