Hooray! I thought it might premiere at Sheff Doc Fest which starts on the 7th but apparently not! My birthday is 2 weeks before :)

Oh, cool! Then I suggest the celebrating should stretch across two months at least! An excellent start to the summer.

I agree - it's odd that a Pulp film would not be part of the Sheff Doc Fest. Oh, well. I guess they know what they are doing...

I think there should be some sort of Bar Italia party to coincide with the release, in Sheff of course.

It is! I actually think a Bar Italia type party SHOULD happen! We could drink Rum and Coca Cola, wear various corduroy and velvet suits and throw some Jarvshapes to Disco 2000.

Oh, that would be fabulous. Seriously, if not this year then one year we should do it. It would be so much fun. We could go to the Leadmill afterwards and then go for a walk by a dirty canal...

On my only visit to sheffield i was taking in the sights. Just off Ladys Bridge are paths that run along the canal, on one of these paths i encountered a human turd. Human faeces. Someone had curled one out on the pavement. Annoyingly this is one of my most vivid memories of my sheffield.

"there's no way you'd get me to jump off that bridge. No chance. Never in a million years." etc

So I reckon if you signed a release form and ended up in the film you might end up getting an invite to the premier. Or two. *winks*.

Yes, it's the European premiere. I think it is also being shown at the BFI London cinema the same night. Pulp are going to be there and obviously Florian and Alex.

Thanks for asking, Panther smile.

Hm, I could get a "cheap" flight from Cologne to Manchester on Friday, 6.6.2014. Is there anything faster than a bus (more than 2 hours) to Sheffield. I don't understand the page with the trains.

But this whole effort would be rewarding (I don't know the right formulation for this, sorry), if I could met some people here from the forum. Otherwise it would be too much, "just to see a movie.

You can get a train on the day from Manchester to Sheffield (takes an hour) for around £10

Sheffield City Hall say there's an "extensive Q&A" afterwards. C'mon Pulp and give us an aul' bar or two of Babbies while you're at it...

Less talk more action!

in my experience of Q &Aas with Jarvis he just tends to get a bit bored (rightly so) and people ask stupid questions. At the Shuffle fest in Mile End he took the piss out of one woman for asking a ridiculously long and boring question.

They seem a lot more animated when there's several of them together, they witter much more between each other in a rather endearing way. The quality of the Q&A probably depends a bit on how it's organised. There was one on 5live where they seemed to have got people to submit written questions beforehand, then the producers chose a couple that fitted their preconceptions and it was exceptionally dull (did anyone know there was once an incident with a very famous American pop star??). But then if a gaggle of uber-fans ask really nerdy questions about something that happened in 1984, the rest of the audience will probably start chucking things, so there needs to be some happy medium. Maybe you need a leading question like, "Can you demonstrate your funny little dance?".

Exactly right, Fran. I agree with all that. I was wondering about the Q & A on the tube on the way home from work and thinking how dull it might end up if not handled well. There needs to be some originality in the questions but not so much that it alienates large chunks of the audience. I always think they should ask Candida more questions than they do because she has a unique position in the band, being female. I haven't ever read much about that, have you? I bet there are loads of stories she could tell that would be really funny and interesting.

I doubt you'll get a "Pulp gig" when the film is being marketed as their goodbye. Films do get shown at City Halls as well. Maybe a song or two or DJ set beforehand or something.

I wonder if all the blocks showing as "sold out" are in fact not released yet, pending the main festival launch. They presumably wouldn't want their main launch event sold out before then.

Very professional looking yet the Sheffield charm offsets it in a lovely way. Can't wait to see it now.

Geek notes: Jarvis talking about what else is going on that night, more or less quoting himself from his song 'Tonite'. Interesting choice in font with the Hardcore era stylings. And the home-movie footage at 1:06...wonder where that's from?

I will neither confirm nor deny that I teared up watching this trailer.

I kinda choked up when he said 'give the story a happy ending'. A solid confirmation of the end of PULP as a band.

That looks like Day That Never Happened footage to my eye.

It is indeed  footage from Day That Never Happened.

Most of the clips shown in the film are from behind the scenes with the band getting wrapped in foil.

Not to much from the actual gig except to show the 'snow' that Mark was suppose to blow around during what I assume would be "Snow"

So what else is going on in Sheffield that night?

I'm half-tempted to catch a train up to Leeds after the film to go to Don't Falter.

I don't think they played "Snow" again after 1984 so it may have been for something else

Noticed Tim Allcard on the 'thanks' credits

Did his name not pop up on other resent PULP stuff? Does anyone know how much influence/involvement he has since the mid 80'? Nothing on the pulpwiki?

Tim was present, and performed percussion, at the Big Melt live show at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. His percussion seemed to consist of hitting empty oil drums and tubs and things. It all looked homemade anyway. I think he and Jarvis have stayed friends through the years. He is an artist these days and I quite often see him cycling around Sheffield with a somewhat beatific smile on his face. You can buy his stuff from Rare & Racy in Sheffield.

Yeah I don't think I can go anymore, which is annoying...may be able to go to a Cineworld so I can still watch the Q&A at night.
