Not exactly their most well known song but more so than S:SC I think and miles better than calling the film 'common people' which was the initial title
Yes, she is and Candida is a legend. I would so love to hear the story of her life with Pulp. She would have a UNIQUE angle on the whole thing. I volunteer here and now to help her write it!
I think that the responsibility of making a film about a band with so much history and such a following and then intertwine it with people from Sheffield then to aim it at both Pulp fans and non Pulp fans worldwide is a big one. Coming up with a title to match that isn't easy.

I'm hoping if it will be showing at SXSW and hence to an American audience that that means it will be getting a multiregion DVD release? I live an hour from LA so maybe I should keep my eyes peeled for any theaters that might be showing it...

I can tell you for definite that it will be the WORLD premiere of a film about Sheff in at SXSW Texas. Mental as that sounds. Look out for the uk one in Sheffield although I'm not telling you when!
A film about music, and a band like PULP (who is usually well known and respected in music circles) is actually not that mental to have a world premier in the US. Austin has become a very important centre for music, and SXSW is probably the BEST place to premier this. To the point that I am sure there will be more coverage about it showing in Austin than it would ever have in Sheffield.
It would be nice if the band make an appearance which would hopefully lead to a small performance.
My comment wasn't meant to sound snidey or anything like that, but as you've clearly got a problem with it I apologise and I'll edit my comment. Sorry again.

hi Voxpop, i definitEly don't think it's mental to have the film premiere there, I should have chosen my words better, I suppose it's just funny to me that a concert we all went to and a film with some of us in is being shown so far away, not in a bad way. It's definitely brilliant for the film :) would you do me a favour please and edit out the last half of my comment As I'll be deleting it. Thanks.
Panther, if I don't know something I'll happily admit it, and I've no idea about any details ticket wise or even venue wise. :)

Passes for film week at SXWS start at $625. Pass holders have first access to seats. Only then are individual seats offered at $10. But Im sure a film like this wont be easy to get into.
I am trying to decide if this means anything more than crossed wires and the anarchy of the internet:
Looking on imdb, see link below, expand section Self under Filmography, there are 2 films listed, Pulp Go Home and one called Common People. I have no idea how imdb works, is it just like a wiki where anyone can write any old nonsense or is it more official than that. There are credits for both films that go into more details than just it's got Pulp in it or whatever. Are there 2 films, maybe a spin-off of the same basic material with a different angle. To add to the confusion, neither of them is called Sheffield Sex City. Or, as is probably more likely, thinking aloud here, they have just been hugely indecisive (what, Pulp?) about the title and there are dregs of various previous versions lurking. I've convinced myself now.
Common People was the first title on imdb, which was later changed to Pulp Go Home. I don't know by who but I think anyone can edit things although I'm not sure, there was also the working title Pulp And Sheffield.
Sheffield: Sex City must be the title submitted to SXSW so who knows what the title will end up being here! Not me.
I just hope any DVD release contains an extra disc of the whole Sheffield show and (very wishful thinking) edited bits from The Day That Never Happened gig á la "The Lost Tape" on The Beat Is The Law. Although, I wouldn't be completely surprised if they show a snippet of the 1988 show/event during the main film as the reference to it in Pulp's tweet/press release when announcing the concert originally and it being mentioned in the blurb for the SXSW premiere suggests its use as a framing device/the story coming full circle etc.

I still have a preference for the title 'And then we went for rides....' I suppose this wouldn't happen because of the Russell connection? Do we know if Russell has any involvement in the film at all?
I agree. The Pulp story ends* just where it began - Sheffield - so it goes full circle. That's why I like it. Also it contains the word Sex, which is kind of cool and very relevant to Pulp (esp Jarvis), of course.
That URL just links to the Facebook page which, incidentally has changed it's name back to 'Pulp' don't they think Pulp the film will be confused with erm... 'Pulp', the film? Or do you think that is their intention?
There is already a pulp.com (the clothes thing). I just thought I'd link to it because new bits and bobs are being added and because it's the official film page so people might like to pop over to have a look.

May be it links to the facebook page until a more official site is set up. I think it safe to say PULP have always been in need of some better PR.
I say me it's been set up by the makers if the film - let's get it straight guys... Whatever this "film" is - to a non Pulpy person... it's a live DVD of a band... No amount of PR is going to change that.
Surely the whole premise of the film is that it's not about the band. I was nervous about he Big Melt when I read about it beforehand, the write-ups made it sound like a couple of recycled Pulp songs and a bunch of Jarvis' mates along for the ride, but obviously that was far from the case in the end.
Steve Lamacq is doing some stuff from SXSW next week on Radio 6 and he said last Friday he was going to be talking to Jarvis out there about what he's doing there.

We'll use the one thing we've got more of, that's our minds.
Well, isn't it meant to be about both - Sheff and Pulp, ever intertwining? Sounds like it's a fairly unique and original film anyway, quite intriguing.
More importantly, are baritalia.activeboard.com people gonna get invites to a Sheff/London premiere? We deserve it as much as the residents of Broomhill, surely..

Eamonn, I couldn't have put it better myself. We DESERVE it!! Ideally, we'd get tickets to 2 premieres, one in Sheff and one in London and a free coach ride between the two with all members of the band!
I'm afraid so far they are too improper to post! I'll let you know if I think of one that is suitable for public consumption, promise.
Meantime, we need to consider other things such as the mid-journey luncheon adjournment. Should this at a pub or is it cheese and pickle sandwiches with a bit of Henderson's relish chucked in to be eaten en route?
Also, I think I read that both Jarvis and Hawley (and maybe all members of Pulp) like crosswords and quizzes and, even though it sounds quite nerdy, they would probably appreciate some exercising of the grey matter on the way.
If you want that proper tourbus feel, surely it should be Leicester Forest East services. There's an amusing interview with the band somewhere they once did there!
Yes, excellent interview, particularly the bit about finding the tros in the skip.
The thing about Leicester Forest East services is that that they are horrible but sooooo convenient when you're going up north from London. I always end up stopping there and when Jarvgirl and I were musing about a coach trip, they popped into my mind, too.
There is something uniquely tawdry about British motorway services...
Gosh, it does bring December 2012 right back, doesn't it? I remember walking around the outside of the stadium before the concert and hearing the soundcheck. Jarvis's voice sounded so young and strong and the song was so old (I think it was Countdown) that I decided that it was a record not a soundcheck after all, until it stopped and started a few times and I realised it was actually live. It was gobsmacking and eerie because it was like hearing his voice from the 80s skip through time - a sign of how constant and consistently superb Pulp are live.
We we also went to the pub for food but we heard Lipgloss (which im so pleased about since they didn't play it). I can't remember what else they played that we heard.
I can see why/how Jarvis' at times awkwardness at discussing "big" themes in relation to himself might jarr. He's naturally quite introverted and no amount of takes for a film about his group and where they grew-up is likely to change that.
I've not seen the Made of Stone doc that the writer compares 'Pulp' to but it strikes me that they are two very different beasts in style and scope.
More critiques should start flooding-in now that it's had its premiere at SXSW.
Such an awful incident last night. Hope anyone from here or family/friends are ok.
Thought you would like to know that everyone out there involved in the film is ok.
This NME article talks about the second showing at SXSW, how there is quite a bit of fan footage in the film and that an American-based fan was in the audience there!
I think that the responsibility of making a film about a band with so much history and such a following and then intertwine it with people from Sheffield then to aim it at both Pulp fans and non Pulp fans worldwide is a big one.

See, I don't like the angle they're taking with it. I'd much prefer a film of the concert.

The future that you've got mapped out is nothing much to shout about.
I think the film will be completely ace, I love Florian's previous film (Love Story) and if you watch that you totally see why Pulp would choose him. It's one of those films that you wanna tell someone else about immediately.
BUT as a Pulp person i completely get what you're saying, the live is the most important thing to us and I hope they decide to release the whole footage at some point.
I hope there's a good chunk of interview time with the band too though. I could probably listen to Jarvis read the phonebook and be happy. I'm thinking since it was premiered at an American Festival there's a decent chance there will be an American region DVD release?? (possibly even some select indie theaters will release it, won't hold my breath)

I spoke with Florian and the producers about the live footage and they definitely wanted it to be a 'Film' rather than a gig. They wanted people who would not be interested in straight concert footage to get something out of it as well as fans. In fact it's probably more for the non fan. It was never going to be a straight live gig recording.
(Is anyone else getting a major Flight of the Conchords vibe from it, though?! Not just because of the NZ accent but also the line 'fan of the band'. Made me laugh).
