Been listening to them on repeat all morning. I naively thought this was going to get easier after the first 1/4 final. Finally come down on the side of Death II. Like various others, it's the tune, plus the beepy bits at the beginning.

I'm finding this all too tough for words but I'm going to have to go for Countdown. Some songs just get you on a fundamental level and Countdown is just one of those songs. No logic, no well thought out arguments just sheer emotion and heart pulling intensity.

Countdown.

This has been the hardest so far. However, forced to choose I'd go for Countdown because to me, it seems more passionate and powerful... I dunno - think saw119 put it better than I could. It just grabs me more, perhaps it's because I identify with it, now and at various times in the past.

My vote is Dyrtft. Because it's.... No, sorry, weej, that's boring biggrin. But this song is so exhilerating. And the title holds so much.

Do You Remember The First Time: Picture the scene, it goes dark with neon 'PULP' letters behind a curtain. Suddenly a grunt from Jarvis and Russell starts the song as the lights lift, the confetti falls and we all go mental that Pulp are back, that's why.

S:SC it's a tough decision. but it's a song that defines all things Pulp. The Story, The Music, The City, The Sex, The Sound

Do you remember the first time. First, I'm not fond of S:SC and DYRTFS is a great starter

Sheffield: Sex City. Because I never like DYRTFT that much but S: SC is one of my favourite songs and I think it's perfect in nearly all aspects.

I missed the last round, a last-minute vote for Countdown would have made Death II squirm but wouldn't have been enough, I guess.

DYRFT and S:SC...so different, so hard to decide. Like judging between mandarins and tractors.

Sheffield: Sex City because DYRTFT is not even on the same level as that song.

Ah man.

My vote is for S:SC for its depth & sophistry, but DYRTFT is one of the few tracks that seem to define Pulp in the public imagination (alongside Common People, Babies, Sorted, etc) that I can still get a dependable kick out of listening to. Great video too.

Despite the fact that it features a future member of Menswear! Makes me a little queasy (the video not the future member of Menswear).

Do you Remember the First time because we've all been there and bought a toy that can reach the places he never goes (well those of us who love that sort of body/sex anyway)

I adore DYRTFT but I think this sums up my feelings for SSC ultimately, I have always been a sucker for the long rambling songs, so SSC it is.

Here's how the semi-finals are shaping up:

knockoutstages2.jpg

Interestingly we seem to have one track each from Separations, Intro, His 'n' Hers and This Is Hardcore... and nothing from Different Class.

Let's wait a week before we start on these.
