I've seen quite a lot of reviews of this now, it went out on American TV the other day by the sound of it. I remember Jarvis saying something at the time he did this that he was going to New York to record this, seemed quite excited. The reviews seem to be Marmite in the extreme, but more on the positive side I would say. And there seems to be general praise for the documentary at least trying to be original and interesting, even from those that didn't necessarily like the result.
Don't know if it is scheduled to be on UK TV any time soon.
Hmm... This sounds interesting, but I'm totally confused by the linked article. The writing is very... strange.
Admittedly, I don't know much about Stephen Sondheim (nothing really), but the review seems aimed at Sondheim anoraks:
The mini film-within-the-film that was "Opening Doors" caused me to actually exclaim out loud. This section is particularly special considering the recent Fathom Events nationwide screening of the wonderful West End Merrily We Roll Along revival.
Huh?
And then there's this gobbledegook:
The editor has transcoded, corrected, and reformatted with a magic touch. We see all of these various components come together as a finished whole, while maintaining the integrity of their original time and platform.
Maybe I'm just dumb, but I have no idea what that means.
Fran, could you shed some more light on this show? Don't make me google it!

Here's another. It seems to be basically a TV documentary about Sondheim, who I also don't know anything much about, but instead of just going through his life chronologically and interviewing people, they seem to have chosen 6 of his songs, not necessarily the most famous one, but ones that cover the narrative themes they want to explore, and then make new recordings of them to get people, especially those very familiar with them, to see them in a new light or take them in properly.
Sorry if I picked a bad article, I've seen a few go past over the last few days and thought it was about time I got round to mentioning it.
