Maybe it's too early in the morning for me, this article seems to suggest there is going to be a Sheffield showing of the film, but I can't see the details in here if it is.
"Unite the Union (City of Sheffield) Band has continued its partnership with pop star Jarvis Cocker with the big screen debut of his film The Big Melt in Sheffield."
Its was nice to read about Jarvis Cocker & Martin Wallace and more on he post you have shared. I had attend his singing in the UK in December. It was great experience.
The Big Melt is on tv this month and DVD in April. I did try to put a thread up about it last month but it wouldn't let me post it and accused me of being a spammer. Which is nice.
I put this in another thread the other day, Jarv on Front Row on Radio 4 talking about it all. I have the podcast too now if anyone can't get iplayer or it's run out before you listen to it.
Cheers Fran. Interesting that he mentions using an old, unfinished Pulp song for the score. Was that the music playing in the background (around the 15min mark of the programme)?
Anyone going to this in London this evening? Tickets are now two for one, hardly surprising given the stupid prices mugs like me were charged before Christmas! Still, got front row centre...summat I suppose.
The film was really engaging, very impressive considering the lack of narration and the music it used was great - including the full instrumental of S:SC (as Jarvis pointed out in the Q&A - Sheffield: Sex City was his own perverse rebranding of the tiresome Sheffield: Steel City label he always heard in his youth).
Nice to see Martyn Wallace in the flesh. I was too shy to ask a question in the Q&A but did manage to briefly compliment him on his work on the early '90s Pulp videos
Hope everyone's gonna be watching, it's well worth it. I see that one of the special features is a recording of the live crucible performance, can't wait!
