Had the great pleasure of seeing The Man Who Fell To Earth in the cinema a couple of years ago and its a very special experience, even without the added Jarvis factor its an essential viewing experience. It truly is a film for the big screen.
Did anyone else end up going to this? It was good. The Q & A was quite amusing because Roeg kept going off on different subjects and films, one woman in the audience asked a question which made Jarv laugh and say "WHAT?!!" He didn't bother answering the question.
Before Jarvis came on to introduce the film somebody put Mile End on (we were in Mile End) so he joked about it being twenty years ago and "can we put it behind us?" but then they played it again at the end which was funny.
all in all it was a good night, Jarv apologised to me for wearing a hat he didn't really like cos he'd lost his nice one. And he remembered meeting me before
:) He actually said before I spoke to him "I've met you before haven't I?" And smiled :) i went a bit fangirly and didn't know what to say apart from "yes"!
He wandered off the question a few times but in an endearing way. Jarvis was much easier to hear - his diction is good - and he came across as pretty relaxed.
I remember seeing the film on a black and white telly in the late seventies and the bit that stuck in my mind was Bowie revealing his alien eyes... ugh!
At the end of the interview he says "shall we go and get some mulled wine then?" But he told us he wasn't having it, he wanted something stronger. Whiskey I reckon.
Reckon you're right. There's that really funny clip on Youtube where Jarvis is in a recording studio and asks for a some whiskey/whisky (not sure which kind).
Well, that should speak volumes about what I do in my spare time!
There was that magazine interview (in Select I think) where Jarvis was asked what was the best way for a woman to come on to him and he said "Buy me double whiskey and show me their pants".
