So it's not about certain things that bloke had done?
I would think creating more quality music and beating those manufactured stars in charts is a better way. And I don't think she shouldn't have compared herself to Jarvis.
Sorry but I'm non-British, so I donno the whole story. So, my opinions could be totally wrong. Please tell me if I'm wrong.
I'm with her on the point that these shows are rather meaningless though. Personally I think even the Britpop era that people like Jarvis hate is much better than today. I might have been wrong again here because I was born early 90s and far from UK, and I'm into them music at the moment. They just sound fine to me, but maybe their problem is that they were imitating the Beatles too hard according to Jarvis (but in fact I donno why but I don't think the 90s bands are all alike, the only one thing I find in common is that most of them once was or is still on hiatus except radiohead maybe?). Most people who's been through the period dislike them now? At least pulp was something different.

She shouldn't compare herself to Cocker OR Lennon.

Jarvis didn't hate the music during the Britpop era, just the term 'Britpop'.

also, as someone who was a teenager during the 90's I can tell you that I certainly don't hate the bands that brought me up.

if you look back at bands such as Blur, Suede (both touring lately btw) etc, you'd realise that they were also very different at the time, and certainly didn't impersonate the Beatles.

I'm not against the protest, just the way she's attempting to cling on to every last shred of attention afterwards.

I think it would have been much more effective if she'd just bent over and mimed a fart.

I disagree on that one. Damon Albarn and Brett Anderson were good-looking lads in the 90s but I didn't think it was too important to me, otherwise I would go listen to boybands/girlbands like my peers do instead. Should've paid less attention to anecdotes, yes. But I thought they were basically like jokes. I didn't say their relationship with Justine Frischmann was the reason I liked them, really, that would be too weird. Maybe my last post sounded like that.
I thought my judgements were based on whether or not I liked the music, but I don't have much knowledge of music, so that might not count either. Maybe I should check though, I don't really know now...

Well... What's your findings after reading? Do you think their music are similar and have lots of Beatles impact now? What did you refer to by "my comparison"? What's your opinions on the Britpop era?
Please feel free to tell me when I make mistakes, as I said I AM ignorant and maybe sort of shallow too.:) Plus, forgive my English level if I fail to understand/ make myself clear.

Not attempting to neglect Lennon, in the slightest. I just think her thing has nothing in common with Lennon's even if there is a certain similarity between hers and Jarvis'. But he didn't attack nobody, did he?
The two you've mentioned don't look alike to me, and in fact I like both (and I know Damon Albarn laid into Jarvis around 2006 or so). I almost went to see blur in May this year and I'm planning to see suede in September. Honestly speaking pulp was the last one of them that I was into, which is much of a pity indeed. I didn't think most of them had too much Beatles impact, it's just I've just read Jarvis' review of The John Lennon Letters and that seems to be what he thinks. (blur and suede did have things in common though, frontman's ex for example. No offense. I like elastica too. Must be weird of me to like all three of them.)

Having re-read Jarv's review of the Lennon letters, I have to hugely disagree with you. I think that your comparisons are based on looks and girlfriends instead of music. Which is a mistake. No offence.

what I meant by your comparison is:

I said that Blur and Suede were very different at the time. Meaning musically different to each other and to the previous musical styles in the charts.

you said: "the two you've mentioned don't look alike to me"

and: "Blur and Suede did have things in common though, frontmans' ex for example. No offence"

your opinions on music are always valid. I'm certainly not trying to tell you that they are wrong.

i honestly think we should leave it there and move on.

Damn my English. When I say they "don't look alike" I actually meant "I don't think their music were similar". And Justine Frischmann thing was an attempt of a joke which was of bad taste, I must admit now.
Thanks for your discussion with me. And I agree that I ought to stop here. Don't want to risk making the forum stupid.Necessary to delete my posts above?
