"When asked by NME what he meant when he told fans at the band's triumphant homecoming show in Sheffield at Christmas "this is it, for now", he replied: "For a while, you know that was a good concert that, it was nice. But those things, you can't keep doing them but Pulp won't be playing this year.""
This was Jarvis speaking at the Big Melt press conference.
Full interview in the NME this week apparently.

Btw, speaking to ME about the Sheffield gig he said he was proper nervous and that it was a huge thing for him to go back and play in Sheffield especially as they left it for ages. But that he enjoyed it. :)
Whichever tour supports new music gets my vote. I was hoping that he would release something - solo, or with Pulp, before his 50th in September. You know how he is about mortality, and "On this day" anniversaries etc. Unlikely at this stage given it's June already and he's working on various other musical things.
Not a massive surprise really but still good to have something definite, even if it does seem somewhat negative. I am really missing new Jarvis music and would love to hear something new. If, as I suspect, they have/will be recording the music for the Big Melt then we'll have new 'old' Pulp tunes from most of the band. There was also a track on the credits credited solely to Jarvis called 'It Stinks'. Most probably it was just an instrumental as I don't remember him singing anything I didn't recognise.
Mind you I don't know what PRS logistics would be like for all those copyrighted pieces of music that soundtracked the film. Maybe it is too expensive to record and broadcast?
Re: not playing 'this year' - not really a surprise I guess, but hope his 'musical summer' is productive, one way or another. While I massively prefer Pulp's output, I can imagine new Jarvis material would never really be that far away. As people have said before, many creative people need to keep doing new stuff.

On that basis, expect a new album and tour this winter. Everytime they say goodbye....
Just thinking, that Sheffield wedding, pulp2014 email address thing, plus this "won't be playing this year" thing, could be leading up to stuff next year.
Many thanks Fran and weej both very interesting. I actually found the film quite affecting and emotional at times given that quite a few family members worked those jobs and in those conditions.
