Sorry to be the bringer of bad vibes but i feel you should all be made aware of non recipricated sharing. I love to share Pulp music with everyone but a recent promise of swaps with a certain individual on this forum has left a bad taste in my mouth. Of course postal items do go missing but for it to happen twice i just don't believe. This particular individual has had ample time to respond to my pm's and now i'm sorry but its name and shame time.....DIXIE999/SCOTT FRAZER...COME on down.
Ouch, sorry to hear that. To be honest whenever anyone has asked me for something I tend to just upload it for them without a swap and I've certainly been on the receiving end of Will's generosity on more than one occasion. Maybe I'm doing something wrong!
Yeah, best off counting on Stephen's excellent Portfolio series and Will's generous uploads. Between them you'd struggle to need to pay/swap for 'owt else Pulp related if we're talking recordings.
Oh are we posting under false names now? A lot of new peeps have come to the forum recently and having been here in some form or another since almost the beginning it's sad to see our once close knitted gang of Pulp lovers go astray a little. However, it's probably in the spirit of the forum to turn the other cheek and get on with being the most intelligent and worthy place for information and discussion about the band we love love without this kind of palarvour. I'm sorry for your loss.
I have very little to share as, on the rare occasions I get hold of something, I immediately share it with this board, because I love you and respect you all and wish you all to indulge in anything 'Pulpy' with me.
I really don't have much to share other than videos and photos from gigs and downloaded sunday services - I have JC's musical map of sheffield which was on the radio about a year and a half ago if anyone wants it (really scraping the bottom of the barrel here...). But I would like to mention how grateful I am to Stephen, Will etc. for putting so much effort into getting all these bootlegs and stuff.
Also who is Scott Frazer? I feel I am missing something...
I have had EXACTLY the same situation with the same guy Scott Frazer. He contacted me on this forum to do a trade (after I had uploaded the mp3 of I killed the crabs...), we agreed, i send him 3 dvdr's and got nothing in return, no emails either. this took place in 2011 by the way. I didn't want to name and shame him on this forum, now I'm sorry I haven't cause he did it again. very frustrating, not even the part of not getting anything, but trusting someone and not hearing any-thing (and I tried getting some kind of reaction: loosely, irritated, funny cool, angry, disappointed, I mailed them all).
by the way, about sharing: of course, some of you may remember the "ask a bootleg" threads I started to urge people to ask what bootleg I should upload. I received some 150 cdr's from an ex-collector and I want to share as much as possible. but this Scott guy wanted it all, in trade for something that wasn't "out" there. I was naive enough to think that suddenly now I was also having stuff others didn't and this was my way to get (and free) more of the really obscure stuff... lesson learned :)
this was the last time I tried getting him to respond, I sent him this pm:
I still can't (under)stand that you tricked me into sending you 3 dvd's with rare stuff and you're not sending me anything back. so this is the way you get treated when you trust people because they're on a board of one of your favorite bands. you must have had a good laugh. yeah funny
Freek, i would suggest we are not the only ones who have been rubbed up the wrong way by this guy. But there are still some good people out there. As a few of you have mentioned, Will is a very generous guy, i have swapped/shared many items with him over the last couple of years and nothing has ever gone astray in the post. And not a penny has ever been exchanged for the pleasure, big up to Will and Stephen, the good guys.

So that's why he stopped posting under his own name.
My experience - I paid him for a CD of demos years ago, twenty five quid or something, before they were in circulation, but he did actually send them in fairness.
In his defence, I have traded with Scotty many times before and he's always provided what was asked. I also met him in person and swapped some tapes when we went to Auto and Sturdy's book launch because he lives nearby. Again, no problems whatsoever.
Well, I don't want to add fuel to the fire but... I agreed to actually buy some rare stuff from Scott years ago- I sent quite a bit of money through the post which was claimed never arrived- twice! Eventually I got a few songs sent by email after chasing for weeks. Just be wary about who and what you trade for/with
But like Eamonn and some others have said, there really can't be much of a need to pay money for/swap stuff with each other. Anything that can be made available is/has generally been made available. If there's something you're particularly after, it's probably far easier to just stick it in a thread rather than going through, erm, other methods to get them...
I agree Stephen, but for myself i don't own a computer so the download option isn't an option. And maybe i am a little bit old school and do still like to have a physical copy where available.
Ah, fair enough. I suppose in that sense then I have shared some of the already available Portfolios by burning them myself and sending them to contributors who - like yourself - don't have access to computers.
It's terribly sad to read this. Everyone has been so kind in sharing their wares - via the account, and file-sharing before all that ended, and ongoing projects like Stephen's portfolio - it seems so mean spirited just to take advantage like this. Fcuking hell, what's a community for? Personally, I have received far more than I have been able to give via this site, but have always at least tried to make my thanks clear when partaking thereof. And some of the very, very best Pulp I've heard has come from such encounters.
Talk about looking a gift-horse in the mouth... Why then punch it in the mouth, pump it full of bute and mince it into dinner?
Thank you Stephen, i'm in the right place. I joined a Morrissey forum in a fit of stupidy but quickly realised i had no knowledge of the subject or any real fondness for his music or him. In any case, pulp people are beautiful and i missed being home. Thank you.
Anybody got any tissues? *sniff* I think I've got something in my eye *sniff*

I think it would have been massively churlish of me to complain if it had taken months or even years to return my discs Stephen. I would have rather just sent you the discs for keeps but just don't have the equipment to copy stuff. I have never hesitated sending any items to anyone. with absolutely no cash changing hands unless thats what we agree. And i will continue to do this, but this guy has just wound me up. And now of course we have heard a few stories of a similar scenario. I can't imagine that he would attempt to trade/sell/ swap anything on this forum again..but, who knows? And Jarvgirl, don't cry, save your tear's for when the kissing stops...

Now I know who you are, I thought it worth stating that this shows me the enormity of how much you must have been screwed over. You sent me some seriously rare stuff - original tapes included - a while back. Even though it took me well over a month (during which time you moved house!) to get them back to you, you never once complained or asked where they were. The fact that you've been driven to this suggests you've really been screwed over as you were ever so patient with me!
The chap in question is on Facebook btw, should you wish to try and badger him there...
To (somewhat) offer a counter to potential (though entirely understandable, all being what it is) negative vibes here, I've done one "trade", and my trade went amazingly. The chap in question even posted the stuff the night we discussed it on MSN, before I had even sent anything to him. I received it the next day and crapped myself thinking "Oh God, I haven't even sent anything! He'll think I'm a scammer!"
To be clear, I had nothing to trade myself, so I offered cash. The person I traded with had received it in confidence I guess, and in chatting I had to make him an offer he couldn't refuse!
I've long since really, really wanted to share the tracks, but that would be betraying the confidence of the thoroughly good chap I got them from. It really kinda tore me apart at times, but they were ultimately shared anyhow, so I skipped that moral dilemma by furious inaction.
Side note: I was forced to change my name (here) once. Was a long, long time ago.
Brother posted something twatty, under my old name (He'd do this all the time, not here, but generally be a cunt to his geeky younger brother). I didn't want to go down the whole "It wasn't me, sorry!" as that crap doesn't wash and is always unbelievable, and I'd (I guess) be cynical towards anyone claiming that, so I scrapped Fillip (who I was) and used my real name.
Ta-da!
(I know I use brackets too much)

I noticed Fred deleted his account - very bizarre since he used to post so much. Anything to do with the weed incident perhaps? (sounds like some sort of drug scandal when I put it like that)
I'm not a victim, but this is exactly why I shared the stuff I had last year... I dislike the hoarder mentality that makes people want to keep things to themself - I also dislike people who charge for material that isn't theirs - I have encountered Scott Frazer and know that he has charged for demos/gigs in the past always felt like he was using it as a bit of a power trip - not sure if he still does.
For me, the more we share things, the more we all benefit as it encourages others to join in too.
On that note DEF2 - I have a huge list of live gigs and whatnot - from looking you up I suspect you have way more material than me as it is, but if you're after anything in particular, give me a shout.
Interested to know what Scott was offering to trade for cash actually! Was it genuinely rare stuff, or stuff that's likely to come out at some point anyway?
I doubt he has anything of interest. To my knowledge he's had the following, none of which I think is particularly rare these days:
I Scrubbed the Crabs that Killed Sheffield Ping Pong Jerry demo Hallamshire '85 OU sessions (4 tracks - Babies demo, OU rough mix, Live On, Space) The Boss / Watching Nicky / Happy Endings demos 'Coca Coca Planet Live' 1994 live promo A few tracks from the 1999 demo incl Cuckoo, Quiet Rev and some others
The only thing that can possibly be said in his defence is that he paid a lot of money to get the OU demo from a commercial dealer, which is why I was prepared (about 11 years ago) to give him some of the other items on the above list in return for it and honour his request not to copy it for anyone else.
You might remember I clashed with him on here in the distant past. His persistence did mean that he got hold of some quite obscure things (OU tape, Coca Cola Planet Live, 1999 tracks) which might not have made it into circulation otherwise, but the way he tended to treat recordings as currency, forever wheeler-dealing to try and get more stuff out of people (and always for himself, certainly not with any thought towards sharing it with the wider community as Stephen, Will and Jason have), always rankled with me.

None of it was particularly rare, largely live stuff as well as the usual demos etc...Which are already widely circulated as far as i have seen. i think between us all we probably have pretty much everything that is available. Anyways, he probably collected all his material from all of you some time down the line? Blueowl, thank you for the offer of swaps and everyone else that has also offered. massive appreciation. I am currently putting a list of my collection together for anyone to view and then you can pick and choose at will. And we can come to some arrangement if anyone is interested in this? regards. Jason.
This is why I like coming to this forum. Everyone has always been really welcoming to new people and not snobby about rare stuff they find (which is a rarity on other forums, like you need to be in an even MORE elite club than the band's forum to share rarer stuff). I've heard a lot of rare stuff from people on here and Stephen's portfolios that I never would have heard otherwise and you take a shitty event like this and turn it around. And the few arguments that have broken out on this website have generally always been resolved fairly quickly and maturely. It's really nice and it's what keeps me coming back and checking the pages every day.

Bullshit, i have more bootlegs than you, therefore im better then you.
In 2006 I bought like for 100 pounds of rare Pulp stuff from this Scott Frazer. I didn't receive anything. He promised to send copies, but these didn't arrive either. After that, no more replies on my emails. Then I posted here to get in contact with him. My post was quickly deleted unfortunately, it could have saved you guys from this fraud. It's sad to see he is still capable of doing this 7 years on. Be warned.
Wow, I'm enjoying all this forum drama, it's been a bit quiet recently!
This is all very interesting. I'll say one thing, maybe it's just because I'm part of a generation who have grown up with the internet and having rare music easily accessible, but to me, anyone who charges money for bootlegs, demos or rare tracks in a first class cunt. I think bootleg hoarders are cunts in general tbh- I have loads of Pulp bootlegs, but my real passion is rare Belle & Sebastian stuff and although I don't want them just flying around the internet willy nilly, I will certainly send them to people when they ask me to, whether or not they have anything to trade. It breaks my heart when I go on the website of a collector who lists all these amazing bootlegs, yet the only way they'll send you them is if you can trade them some fucking Wire show from 1979.
Also, what was the craic with Weed and Fred? Was there an argument? It's a shame Fred's gone, he was a good egg. But I do love internet forums, I've never been a 'troll' but I love winding people up and generally dicking around/saying the first thing that comes into my head. Life's too short to take internet band geekery seriously.
Scott should really have the decency to come on and reply. Hard to believe he pulled this stunt multiple times and that those who were ripped-off and post on here didn't say 'owt.
Pretty much everybody I have had contact with through this board has been friendly and honest, so it's sad to read this thread.
I had some dealings with Scott several years ago, but thankfully I wasn't really ripped off like others clearly have been. I did pay for some of the demos he had acquired. I remember he said he'd sent them, but they didn't initially turn up, so I agreed to download them instead. Soon after I got a card to collect them from the sorting office because they'd been sent without any postage.
I think I paid £20 (plus a couple of CD-Rs). I kept the cost down by only buying half of what he was offering, with somebody else buying the other half, and we then did a swap. I've never liked paying for unreleased recordings, but at the time what he was offering just seemed too interesting to turn down. I'm still impressed he managed to dig up some of those rarities.

Scott never ripped me off but I did contact him once to offer a trade for Flux festival. This was around 2000, before anyone had heard "Sunrise" and we were all really excited about future Pulp.
I didn't have a great record collection but I was living in the US and offered to send him some American stuff that might be hard to find in the UK. I was thinking a big bag of tootsie rolls or something.
So anyway, he replied that he wanted some obscure Corey Feldmen sings Michael Jackson record from 1988. I couldn't tell if he was taking the piss or being a bit fruity. I didn't bother to reply.
In retrospect it was quite funny, but at the time I took my Pulp very seriously and was rather put out but the whole thing.
Anyway, he eventually gave Flux to a girl he fancied, who passed it on to me.
(NB: its possible I could be thinking of someone else entirely, I'm old and my memory is shot)

What's your name? I have a vague recollection of someone at college asking me to get a Corey Feldman record, it could have been me, not Scott.

I tend to agree, though I doubt I'm part of the same generation. The yahoo accounts were set up so people could freely share stuff. I have made the odd small contribution absolutely gratis, and would expect others to do the same. Even at a very fundamental level, had I paid a lot of money for something, my first instinct would be to redistribute freely as far and as wide as possible. It has been interesting to see stuff (mostly non-Pulp) I have leaked come up on bootleggers site, but fortunately there are a lot of people still handing it out for nowt. Alas, I never knew any sound engineers who worked with Pulp.
As for Fred, not sure why he removed his account. The thread was closed off and removed and all parties involved made up. Maybe he was a bit embarrased, but hell, if I left forums because of that I'd have been gone years ago.
