I'm surprised that nobody else has mentioned this yet. I think it's really good, a much needed return to form. I remember Russell once saying in an interview (or was it Jarvis? Anyway...) that Pulp conserved a lot of energy between "Freaks" and "Separations" and it's clear that Suede have done the same in the past 10 years.

I'm very much enjoying it, especially Snowblind and Hit Me.

Yeah, pleasantly surprised at the consistency of it. Part-unashamedly glorious pop that harks back to the Coming Up days, part-epic/expansive melancholy that has one eye looking back at Dog Man Star. I think the straightforward pop works better.
Chorus for Snowblind is pure ear-candy. The preview/singles Barriers and It Starts And Ends With You sound a lot better when listened in context of the album in full as I did this evening on a long walk along the Thames (also had the new Bowie and Strokes albums on).

Brett's voice sounds incredible to be honest. It feel like his vocals and melodies drive most of the songs rather than the lead guitar or other instruments. The lyrics are the usual mesh of poignancy (both apt and not so) and at times too many ridiculous comparisons and descriptions: "your touch is like a raven's shadow"/ "the telephone emits a brittle sigh" but it wouldn't be Bretty without layering on the melodrama.

There's something memorable about every song even when the whole doesn't always come off. High production values, Buller has definitely improved as a producer. Nothing as thin-sounding as the debut (20 years old this week), reverb-drenched as Dog Man Star or trebly as Coming Up, just glossy pop-production which works well with the songs.
There's nothing outstanding or boundary-pushing, it's just classic Suede #2 and fair play to them for being able to comeback in such style. Looking forward to seeing them next week in Ally Pally. A solid seven out of ten at least.

I thought the first half was pretty good but it slows a bit for me after that. Granted, I haven't listened to it enough to form a full opinion yet. Better than A New Morning at any rate.

I really like it, in fact I'm amazed at how much I like it! Can't wait to see them at Rough Trade tomorrow.

Also, It Starts and Ends With You is an amazing single; I've heard it on the radio loads, and even in shops and things, which is pretty unusual these days. It feels like a proper single.

Of course not. A New Morning was a load of old shite.

I liked A New Morning, some cracking songs on there!

My problem with this album is a lot of it seems to merge into one, but that's probably that I'm not paying attention enough. I've had bits of tunes running through my head from Bloodsports, but I don't know where from.

It sounds really (really quite terribly) twatty, but it "has my attention" enough to get into it, if you get me? (Christ, it does but it's right. They have won the right to have me sample their songs, the lucky, lucky fellows!) I've listened on Spotify a couple of times while working, not been bowled over but enjoyed bits when I've paid attention, so I'll buy it. In fact, I'll order now.

Predictably enough, It Starts And Ends With You is presently the song stuck in my head from the album. Really quite very fine!
