This is quite interesting. According to the website Pulp are only playing one show each cruise and both shows are last thing on the first day. Maybe they're only staying for that first day then nipping off for a holiday? Anyway, with no competition from another act whoever is hoping to see them better get there really early. Oh, and both sets are listed as being one and a half hours long. Expect lots of DC songs I suspect.
Pretty damn disappointing since it was announced they would be doing FOUR shows on the high seas back in July and now it's just one each cruise. And the promoter told the New York Times that sets would be longer than normal since there are no curfews, but 90 minutes is the absolute norm for a headlining set. I guess since sales flopped, it was decided to cut losses and only pay the big acts to all play one set each cruise unopposed? And only one band is playing the theater on the third night of the Jamaica cruise; what a waste. A bit anticlimactic to have the biggest act play the first night, too. Peaking extra early, yes?
There's nobody playing after them in the theater so surely they can play for longer. The last ever Pulp show should have some rarities! Surely Jarvis and Steve will do a dj set on the lawn or night club, at least? It was stated on facebook that djs not on the lineup would be playing those locations.

The LA Weekly said sales were sluggish and all sales were closed a few days ago because the passenger manifest has to be sorted by some specific point for cruises, apparently.
After reading all the 'whoa bro' type posts on the facebook page this seems like nothing more than 'hell on the high seas'. If anyone gets any sleep on this crusie I will be amazed. Good luck Bort!

This cruise was always destined for the rocky shores of Fail. I feel bad for Pulp fans who opted for the cruise instead of just grabbing a flight to England for the Sheffield show.
I don't really see them playing a long set. The set already ends well past their bedtimes and they are likely to be jet lagged. But who knows, maybe they'll surprise. At least you can hope for a few nautical themed rarities mixed into the set. "My Lighthouse" is almost certainly going to get played. Maybe you'll get to hear "Boats and Trains", or "Whiskey in a Jar", or ska-tone "Paula".
On the bright side, you'll get to see Pulp's most intimate show since the early 90s. There will be what... 900 people? That's kinda cool.
What I don't understand about the set times is why all the shows take place in the middle of the night. Do people really like to watch live music at 2 in the morning? I guess I'm just old.
That's an amazing picture of Candida! Two paragraphs on the concert in this blog, mainly about what Jarvis said and the atmosphere: http://blogs.browardpalmbeach.com/countygrind/2012/12/ss_coachella_cruise_concert_review_day_one.php?page=2
"Even though some of the crowd started to clear out, by the end, people were jumping onstage to dance with the singer."

I'd forgotten about "His 'n' Hers" being played. I'd clearly wiped it from my memory as it's the thing they played on tour that I didn't get to hear that I wanted to the most*
*Please extract decent grammar from this sentence.
"This was the group's first time on a cruise, joking, "We're all in the same boat together," calling it "a voyage of discovery." "
- Jarvis sounded pretty bemused on Sunday about the whole idea of going on a cruise, saying he'd not been on one before, no idea what to expect, hoping to survive. For the clutching at straws brigade, he also said this was Pulp's last shows of the year. Let's hope they enjoy it like they seem to have enjoyed the rest of the reunion shows - Candida is certainly entering into the spirit.
I was quite amused by this observation in the previous article - is this what cruise holidays are all about? Just like following the hordes to Greece, from Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads * ...

"When Cocker sang the hook of "Common People," with its bleak invitation to dance, drink and have sex "because there's nothing else to do," here it felt more like a rallying cry than a line of desperation. "
