Jarvis will probably go on as a solo artist and jump less onstage

Hmmm, maybe. You know I'm not convinced.

Nothing more than a feeling really. This whole Pulp reunion has the feeling of a last hurrah in many ways. In the Q interview he expresses the opinion that no new album means no promotion or slogging around doing PR. He hasn't released any new music since 2009 and I'm not sure I really believe that vague story about that girl being on a new recording. I can see him concentrating on doing some production work if he fancies it and maybe some guest vocal spots would probably suit him. So my opinion is just as vague as anyone elses but y'know doing his radio show, making documentaries, producing music, editing books and a few guest vocal spots. Why wouldn't he be happy with that?

It's a beautiful suggestion PulpBristol and very well thought out. I'm having a panic now, I don't know where any of my old Pulp tickets are (I'm always paranoid about these things and not being a 'real' fan or something)! The only one I can lay my hands on is the ticket to the aftershow party from '95, maybe that and a badge would do if push comes to shove and your lovely idea comes true.

Because he's a songwriter more than any of this. Sooner or later, the pile of songs will be too much to bear and the satisfaction of being something else won't be enough. He's a performer, a musician and nothing can top that. It happened to a lot of musicians in the past, trying something else. Lennon, Harrison are the obvious ones, recently Albarn, Neil Hannon or Crispian Mills. But they, in the end, all went back to music making solo records or with their main band. Coz for a songwriter, not releasing songs and performing them in public is like an unborn child. It has to come out eventually.

Yeah, it's a similar situation to when they split before and Jarvis went to France to be a dad. A few years later he couldn't help but do some solo stuff

Indeed, it might just come less and less.

Being a Pulp fan can be testing at times. My advice is live in the moment & don't expect anything until it there in front of you. Same goes for that bloody Blur album which has been on and off more times that I care to mention.

The Pulp reunion has been amazing & the acclaim they have recieved is well deserved but they can't carry on touring for much longer without new material so for that reason it's right they should bow out gracefully before they outstay their welcome.

Sheffield will be an emotional but celebratory show, I'm sure. Be there, six o clock (by the fountain down the road).

I agree 100%!! I think that perhaps we're being a little selfish here... we're SO lucky that Pulp reformed, so lucky that the gigs have been amazing and aimed and both casual and hardcore fans, and so lucky that they've kept the reunion going for 18 months. The same goes with Blur- I never thought I'd see them play live, nevermind get two new singles from them.

You've just got to take what you're given- the important thing is that Pulp haven't done anything bad, they haven't tarnished their legacy in any way, and they're not creating any kind of media hype by saying "We're DEFINITELY finishing at the end of this year". I reckon Pulp will be back for more shows at some point, when the time is right. Who knows! That's why I love Pulp. This has been the best reunion in the history of reunions!

Yeah, apart from the mystery occasionally getting irritating they've handled it really well and I bet they've even surprised themselves with the success and acclaim they've achieved. And the performances have been as good if not better than past shows I've been to. Definitely my favourite reunion as it reminded me just how much I love this band. In fact I love them more than I did when I was sixteen

Thats something I cant fathom - the huge resounding success of the reunion tour, and no release of any other material whether it be old, new or whatever - nothing!!!

It made me sad to read this, the untrue studio rumours kicking about kinda got me secretly hoping for something new. Plus the whole interviews, promo and tour business isn't the best excuse, they could have done an album and toured something to the tune of what they did last year and it would have been great. Teasing the possibility of future gigs is a bastard though...

Kinda like the words in the notes for 'HITS' Something about sailing away. Not knowing where you will end up.

Yeah, that was the first thing that struck me when I first heard of the cruise. And Jarvis is a sucker for "signs" like that.

I'm just being a pessimistic misery. I understand everything you say and agree with you but the key word in your answer is 'eventually' that what worries me.

I hope the ticket buyers are aware that Pulp don't know what time they're getting to the destination...

To be fair, we did this exact thread almost verbatim about a year ago when he basically said there would be no more shows. I'm not holding my breath, but I still think there's a shot once it all dies down, Russell finishes his play and Jarvis gets bored again he'll wanna give it a try. I think the radio show and stuff like that offers stability so he can spend time with his family, but he is an artist like someone stated above and I doubt he's going to be satisfied with being idle for very long. And besides, if he IS going to record new material down the line, why not do it with the best backing band he could ask for?

It's true but this time does seem more like the end (as much as I hate to say it). Particularly Candida's remark in that article - that if she were to return to Chile she wouldn't be touching a keyboard (or something of the sort). In Spanish was that remark less blunt than google translate makes out?

When they announced Sheffield it really seemed like the final gig (of this reunion at least), especially as didn't Nick say something along the lines of a Sheffield gig being one of the last concerts they did? And there was a Day That Never Happened reference and the 'tissues optional'. But I guess when they announced the cruises a few days later it got my hopes up that they'd at least be up for a few more as it seemed an odd way to sign off. Didn't think about the whole 'sailing away' thing!

Can't really blame them for not being up for long, punishing tours or the other stuff that goes with promoting new material, plus there could be all sorts of factors at play we don't really know much about. Maybe they are enjoying just doing a few gigs here and there and would be happy to carry on in that vein, but they're very aware that they can't keep this reunion going indefinitely without new stuff.

Hopes of a warm-up gig sadly fading but PulpBristol's idea is a fantastic one. Am going to dig out old Pulp merchandise just in case, can't do any harm (unless I lose it on the Supertram).
