Have you become a dad or did I imagine that? If so, congratulations! Speaking as someone with an eleven month old though, I'm afraid to say your days of free time are over!

Given the excitement around Party Clowns and checking my Pulp live folder I wondered if anyone had any other '91 shows they could share. I have the two French shows and the Hit The North radio session but I feel like a need a few more. Although I absolutely love this period of Pulp my collection in this area is sadly lacking. What is the best quality English show? I'm particularly interested in Nov Subterania show but I'm not picky. If anyone can help me out I'd really apprciate it.
Have been compiling some good ones here, with the help of Will Wiki and Jason (who was there). May even be some unheard things! Time is a bit limited at the moment but I'll try and at least share the '91 catalogue tonight
Portfolios are still underway. I put them on hold for a bit as I was waiting for something I haven't chased up in a while, but can proceed anyway. '91 does have some amazing stuff.
Eamonn, we stopped at May '87, yeah. Got the rest of the Havenhand era to mop up, then Separations, and then
1991: 16/3/91 - Leadmill. 7 tracks all videoed. 5/91 - Countdown recording session 20/7/91 - Town & Country Club, London. again, videoed. 1/9/91 - Leadmill 11/9/91 - Hit the North (radio) 4/10/91 - Sheffield Uni 11/10/91 - Town & Country again 18/10/91 - L'Aeroneff (3 tracks only) 19/10/91 - La Cigale (absolutely stunning gig!) 15/11/91 - Subterranea, London 28/12/91 - Leadmill
All those gigs are reasonably complete audios apart from those two mentions which also exist on video.
When (if) I get free time again, I'll continue to progress towards getting these 'issued'.
Yes indeed! And belated congrats to yrself. I will, of course, aim to prove you wrong :) I know of the odd Dad who's managed to maintain some contact with their passions, and I'm hoping for similar. So far managed 4 spare hrs in ten days tho!

I've found that since I've become a father I've been getting more stuff done, especially creatively. I have a lot less free time, but I really value it now, and use it a lot more efficiently.
Hi Stephen - it's not all hopeless, you just need more imagination sometimes in getting things done. The upside is, if you get good at it, when they get bigger, you discover all this free time you never had before because you've got so much better at using it!
This is my husband with our first baby. They can be persuaded to fit in around you more than you might imagine. Slings are great for that too. I remember taking him down to the Millennium fireworks in the city centre when he was 8 weeks old with everyone telling us you can't do things like that with babies and he was fine snuggled in his sling inside my coat, didn't really care where he was.

And it is a tragedy that New Sessions, so beautifully filmed, is so blinkin' also. I do love Russell Senior so, but how the hell does a guitarist not realise he's SO badly out of tune? One of my favourite ever band members was always more concerned with floppy fringes, stage-appearance etc. than technique, but even he - with his self-admitted rudimentary skills - could recognise when he was out of tune and compensate by moving to strings that were less out of tune!
Finally re: Party Clowns CD. Although I have all the footage that was broadcast, I could have sworn the audio used to circulate (inc. Space). Am I wrong on this? Will mentioned the speech about the audience barrier and a ball pool being cut from the CD...I thought I'd heard this after Space on a bootleg? Please feel free to correct me!
I agree about the 11/10/91 show circulating prior to the new CD release as a bootleg. Also, aren't there 4 tracks circulating from the L'Aeroneff show rather than the 3 you mention above?

I have no knowledge of the complete audio version circulating previously, it certainly wasn't widely circulated if it was out there. Don't forget that there are two '91 Town & Country Club recordings - 20th July and 11th October - this is the former one, but a complete audience recording exists of the latter.
The crèche in front of the stage comment comes between Love Is Blind and Separations: watching the TV footage it doesn't look like it could have been edited in from somewhere else. Jarvis makes the comment about the keyboard borrowed from his grandma afterwards.
Regarding '91 recordings generally, I was hoping a copy of the Halifax Piece Hall show (31st August) might be found for the portfolios. I remember Sturdy suggested he might have a copy? (no problem if it's not possible.)

As the dad of a beautiful 9-month old girl, I can confirm that things do settle down a bit after the early weeks. You might even find she starts to sleep through the night! (NB not a guarantee - ours currently manages five hours at most, although she miraculously seems to enjoy a bit of a lie in on a Saturday morning!)
I've been surprised to find how much of my stuff (label, clubnight, band) I've been able to keep on doing post-birth - obviously it's harder, but I was certain that by now I'd have had to give up some of those things. I've a nasty feeling that the real crunch is going to come when Mrs Sturdy goes back to work in the new year!
The other thing is that, to echo what Liltman says, you may find that if you have to give stuff up (or devote less time to it than previously), it's actually not the great tragedy it might have been before. You've probably not had time to reflect on this yet, but once you get chance to catch your breath, you might notice that you're not quite the same person you were before and there's been a bit of a shift in perspective - you've got a new priority that's going to shove a few other things out of the way to a greater or lesser extent, but as that new priority is actually ace it's not really a problem!

I've even found time for a new hobby - running. Don't worry Sturdy, i worried about my wife returning part time but it all worked out. Though if anyone knows how to get an eleven month old to sleep through the night, please, please do tell...
