There's no way I could stand around for hrs outside in december. I'll be doing my usual thing, that has never let me down - go in quite late and wriggle my way down to the front. It doesn't get me on the barrier, which of course I wouldn't expcect, but I usually make it no less than a few rows back, and anyway, you can't dance when you're knees are pushed up against the barrier. You really don't need to queue for hrs to get near the front, unless you want an actual barrier spot.

If it's not already been mentioned in this thread.. the Arena is also home to the Sheffield Steelers Ice Hockey team, so it does tend to get a bit chilly in there at times!
Screw queueing, I'm heading to Centertainment for a tasty Handmade Burger at 6.00pm and heading in when we're done (probly between 7.30/8.00). I've never been a fan of the front pit, I like to hang on the edge of it or close to the middle if not.
Meanwhile in the pulpwiki poll and 3 days to go She's A Lady has broken clear and looks like the clear favourite of songs people want to hear the most at Sheff with 42 votes. Clearly, we love the way she moves - the way she moves. Death II and My Legendary Girfriend are battling it out for runners-up while Ansaphone has come out of nowhere to grab fourth place. It's A Dirty World slips to fifth.
At the other end some sick fecker actually voted for Silence. I vote that they should be named and shamed!
This morning's train disruptions have put the fear of god into me...bit edgy about snow/cold weather causing transport problems. If I missed the show due to being stranded at home I would probably just crumple in a corner and die a little!
I'm hoping it will do its worst today and be cleared up on the main roads by Friday when we have to drive up. We are used to slogging our way up the M5/M1 to Yorkshire in December, it's just usually a couple of weeks later!

JayJay if that makes you old I've been old since I was 17. I don't want to be too distracted thinking about how much my legs hurt and wondering if the guy behind me is feeling me up or his hand is just been unfortunately crushed against me to listen to my favourite band in the world play my favourite songs in the world :)
Yay Lauren! That makes me feel better. I know what you mean about the guys too - although more recently I've found that I don't need to worry about them touching me but crushing me to death! (Apparently guys of 6 feet aren't able to see girls of 5 feet when they're at the front!)
I should apologise now to anyone who has a problem with a guy of 6 foot 3/4 standing at the front!
If he's that guy with the beard and the mic he's meant to be there. But seriously, I'm 6'2" and a big guy, I don't mean to cause anyone any grief but I'm often just left a bystander with little option but to obey the physical laws. So, sorry if I might upset anyone at any time for any reason.
^Sorry guys wasn't getting at anyone! I know it's difficult for everyone at the front!!! Also, I didn't mean that people are trouble because they are tall, but that I'm trouble because I'm short :) Most people are lovely about it, but some really don't care if they are elbowing others in the head (I'm sure that doesn't apply to anyone here - but if it does, stop it lol!)
Short people feel comfier on public transport, especially planes where us lanky lot are packt like sardines in a crushdtinbox. Good vantage points at gigs is our reward.
Please tell me I'm not the only person who doesn't seem to be able to get off a bus without wacking their head on the wing mirror. I've nearly knocked myself out a few times...
The only down side to being tall at a gig is crowd surfers kicking us in the back of the head. My new policy - if your feet go anywhere near my head I will tie your shoe laces together.
Being short, I've still had a few near-misses with crowd surfers' feet as they've sailed above my head! I'm in seating this time, though that was simply because it was all that was left on pre-sale and didn't want to risk leaving it to general sale in case cruel act of fate/broken alarm clock/broadband crash stopped me getting a ticket at all. Worried it won't be the same but determined to make the most of it anyway.
Think all-day queuing days are behind me too - queued for ages to see Radiohead once and got right at the barrier, in the middle, but the crowd was really surging behind me and most of my energy was spent not enjoying the gig but trying to stop myself getting crushed. Sadly that's what my main memories of the evening now are, all these years on!
Been a few rows back at other gigs and that's been best of all worlds really. At V96, I'd got quite a good spot but as soon as Cast came on, there was a massive crowd surge and my trainer somehow fell off, and before I could grab it the crowd surged in the opposite direction and I was carried away with it - it was lost forever. Had to stand reasonably far back after that to minimise the risk of ending up with a broken foot. Pulp were still ace though, at a slight distance!
Hello! I arrived in Sheffield this evening. No, I'm not planning to be first in the queue - I'm sitting. Have been in London for work and wasn't worth going back to Cornwall for 24 hrs. 15 yr old son joins me tomorrow. Looking forward to exploring the city.
