Maybe you could all construct an Occupy camp in the Arena car park this week, Jarvis is keen on them.
I knew there was a reason I preferred seating, how can you manage to enjoy the event when there's all this anxiety about just getting in? Each to his own. I just freak out squashed in crowds, I went to a sci-fi convention in London the other week and that was right on the edge for me, just crowds milling round stalls of cuddly Pokemons. If I get too wound up I just end up with the whole event passing me by before I've pulled myself together to pay attention.
I hope it all goes for you as you're hoping. Doesn't sound conducive to meeting up in the pub beforehand, then?

We'll use the one thing we've got more of, that's our minds.
I just think that there's so much going on at a Pulp gig that to not be at the front seems a really wasted opportunity. Plus, there's space to breathe down there and the air is nice and cool!
Just a word of caution as well. It will be absolutely bloody freezing in Sheffield this saturday and there is nowhere to put your coat when you get in (no cloakroom) and nowhere to get any kind of food and drink outside the arena.
I don't think I could stand queueing for six hours to get a barrier spot; not after a 4-5 hour drive up from Brighton. I'm probably going to start queuing at around 4.00-5.00 and hope for the best (i.e. a spot that isn't right at the back of the arena; even just somewhere in the middle would be nice).

Hush, keep very still, for the strangest things are about to happen.
It's impossible to predict what it will be like. Hopefully the cold weather will keep people away. I really don't know what to do. I don't want to spend hours queing when there's no food ro drink and no lavs either. Also, I have the added complication of getting my son to his sisters house and taking along my missus to the show, who has never seen them before, and she's getting her hair cut at 2pm!
Gonna feel stupid wearing a big parka in the standing area but can't see any way around it!
You won't feel the benefit when you leave and it's -1 outside if you keep your coat on. I suppose it's quite hard to provide cloakroom facilities for 14,000 people though. It reminds me of Magna which was freezing walking around but during the Pulp show I was sweltering in a wool pea coat.

I might well concur. God help those coming from sunnier climes. Or even anywhere South of Gateshead.
I'm in Gateshead & I am looking forward to fleeing south to Sheffield & their tropical climate. Me & my mates don't do queuing & most if them are seating anyway. I think we'll be arriving at a sensible time & tucking down the side somewhere & most importantly taking it easy. I'm far to old to even consider getting down the front!
Ughhh all of you who get to the front have to make a promise not to talk about how close you were! I wish I could but me and my sister have too many medical problems to stand that long. Maybe I should have done what I saw a few pensioners do at Richard Hawley when they got to the barrier then unfolded some camping stools and sat and waited for him to come on stage....
That's really annoying about there not being a cloakroom. I have circulation problems and can't be cold for very long at all! Grumble. Dunno what I'm gonna do.
Hmm, i dont know about queing for hours...Been there done that, not sure im up for it now. Earliest ive ever waited was around midday for the London Garage gig in 2000. And there was already about 3-4 people there lol. We wont be in Sheffield until 1pm and then we've got to find our hotel. Im absolutly full of cold too atm, hoping that will have cleared up by the weekend. If im feeling up for it, i may get down there for about 4?, convincing OH to wait in the cold is another matter...gah..at 5ft tall i need a good spot at the front!

That makes me very happy! Can't decide if I should bring a coat. Will it be ok shoved under my seat?
Hm... I think I will be around in the morning to check what's going on and then decide what to do with queueing up. I'll be arriving on Thursday already so I should be able to have a proper breakfast and all on Saturday. I'll probably bring some snacks and drink. Being one of the crazy people that showed up early for some Radiohead gigs that year, haha. The weather is a bit colder here in Germany at the moment so... a coat and a hoodie should be okay. Garbage bags are multi purpose for sitting on and for rain protection
Hi, just signed up to the forum. Saturday will be my first time seeing Pulp and I'm a bit excited!
The only small fly in the ointment is the prospect of queuing in a freezing Sheffield carpark for hours, possibly without a coat since there's no cloakroom
I'll also be there on my own, so If anyone else is in a similar situation and fancies meeting up or something, let me know. It might be quite nice to have some company!

If you're just going from car to arena you probably won't need one but there'll be no problem sticking your coat under the seat if you feel you need one. A jumper would probably do for you. (look at me, all wardrobe tips and everything!)
I must have been the only person not complaining about the cold there as I was recovering from flu and a sickness bug. I was still throwing up on the way there, and I sweated the illness away while they played and felt great afterwards!
This thread is evidence that Pulp fans are getting in a bit is it not? I don't believe we'd have been having this conversation 10 years ago!
Fred - plan is to get tram & arrive for 7:30/8 and I envisage we will walk straight in with minimal queuing. Under your seat is a perfect place to keep a coat. I need to find a suitable jumper for standing in. I hope they play Help The Aged now. We could wave our cardigans & tap our walking sticks.
I think whatever time I turn up I'm just gonna look for Jazza and say 'hi'. So if a strange man starts talking to you Jazza it might be me, or it might not you never know round Attercliffe. (There is a swingers club just down the road from the Arena)
